    I'd love the wifi timers with my tanks but getting the plug management all worked out is tougher because (at least with the timers in this video) they have one output each. Currently I have my light timers with two outputs each plugged straight into the wall, with a power strip plugged in below them to do everything else for the tanks.
    Wifi timers are probably going to be one of the things I upgrade when I move (including putting solid black tint on my tank backs and creating a much smaller scale version of your air manifold), but for now mechanical timers work for me.

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks  3 года назад

      You can always use the WiFi plug into the wall outlet, and connect a power strip to the plug. That way you can control more than one light with the plug, while still having a second outlet (and even another power strip) for items that don’t need a timer.

    Excellent video. Your experience and so many other advanced aquarists reinforces the fact that HOBs and cannister filters are expensive, and not necessary for a successful aquarium. As well, all the filter media options can be eliminated with one clear winner- Sponges!!!

    Zenzo, The wifi plugs are great to have and helps quite abit for programming. The Xtreme line of goods are very good quality. I used it when I had cichlids in the past. Have you thought of purchasing a 4stage RO unit with a carbon/cloromine filter & say a 100-200g water reservoir so you wouldn’t have to treat the water every time you do a WC?

  • @jeromehorn7333

    I love my Python for water changes, I only have 4 tanks but a few years ago I added a sink to my basement and that allowed me to stop hauling buckets of water. The Aquarium Co-op product I like is their fertilizer package that comes with Easy Green, Easy Iron and Easy Carbon (algae inhibitor) and root tabs. My plants responded well and I no longer have algae on the glass. I like the mag-float scrapers too. I have consider trying sponge filters, but haven't In my multi tank I have Penguin 350s with Sponge pre-filters to prevent sand from getting in the filter; they are messy to clean - when you remove sponge filters from sand tanks do they dump sand everyway into the water column? I have also starting using Aqua Clear filter sponges in my Marineland Penguin filters, a lot cheaper that replacing filter cartridges all the time. I use Seachem prime as my dechlorinator.

    I really like your list. Its helping prepare for reestablishing my tank . Question: would you recommend both porosities of sponges for a 10 gallon tank. I'm obsessed with filtering my tanks because I lost (3) Fish because the filter broke, and I wasn't able to purchase another one. I had at that point an Oscar and (2) goldfish who were supposed to be Oscar food. All at least 10" in length. FYI, I won't be live feeding again. That was my first time keeping fish.

    • @TazawaTanks

      For a 10 gallon tank, I’d use one medium sized Aquarium Co-op filter. I don’t think multiple types is necessary.

    Not trying to be a jerk but why is Fritz better than seachem safe?

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks  3 года назад

      The biggest advantage of Fritz A.C.C.R. vs Safe is that the Fritz product doesn't have that sulfur smell. That can be a big deal for some people. As far as the Fritz Complete vs Prime, they are both equally great products. The Fritz product comes with the measurable pump head if bought from Aquarium Co-op.

    The video is good, nice subject. But I can't agree with you on sponge filter. In my experience, sponge are not good for biological filtration. I now have external canister filters in all my tanks and believe me or not the sponge which is in there is a pre filtration for me and that the only thing I clean every month. The rest is biological filtration media that I only clean a little bit in aquarium water every 3-4 months or so. I use seachem matrix and eheim substrate pro as bio media. This kind of filtration is the only one that provides good conditions for the growth of beneficial bacteria. In comparison sponge filters are useless... However this is only my opinion and I only have 4 tanks so I can understand that in your situation external filters are too expensive

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks  3 года назад +1

      Sponge filters are actually one of the best filters when it comes to biological filtration. That’s what they are designed to do. The surface area on one sponge can equal that of what is kept in some canister filters. When you stack sponges or have a few setup, the surface area is even greater.
