For context, John K once again took his precious time with the production of Fire Dogs 2 and the episode was barely finished by the time it was supposed to air. To help his former protege out, Ralph Bakshi suggested they air the first Fire Dogs in the time slot and then air the first half of Fire Dogs 2, with the Ralph’s Playhouse segments acting as a bridge between the episodes.
Yeah the sick little monkeys book says he made the artists do the layout stage 3 times in a row. No wonder there was a delay. Ahhh… I guess some things never change, eh’ John?
@@NateTheGnatYeah. It doesn't make me uncomfortable to watch like Ren Seeks Help, painful to watch like Onward and Upward and Altruists, and is a GAZILLION times better then Stimpy's Pregnant and Beach Frenzy.
people dont realise that the reason stimpy looks worse in apc is because most of the time he is show ln emoting without his two kittie cheeks under his nose, so now most of the time he just has a round stomach where his mouth is and then for some reason another circle around his eyes. sometimes they dont even bother separating them which just makes him look like faces inside a circle.
This episode is pretty good. And for APC standards, that means its probably the best episode. But its still kind of... slow and not much happens. Its not even a full episode. So I guess I'll give it a 6/10. At least R&S aren't having... intercourse in this episode. So its automatically a ton better than Onward and Upward. It feels like this is the closest the show got to the spirit of the original cartoon. Ralph is a funny guy so that helps it a lot.
Fire dogs 2 is considered by a lot of people one of the best episodes of apc but imo its worse than onward and upward. Just having two good scenes and visuals doesn’t save the episode for being boring and toilet humor jokes like onward and upward, but unlike fire dogs 2 onward and upward has a few scenes and dialogue I liked more than fire dogs 2 and onward and upward has ren and stimpy drawn better than in fire dogs 2. Even like the idea that john k wants to deliver for it being an autobiography with him living with ralph bakshi is executed very poorly unlike onward and upward where its goal is to gross you out succeeded exceptionally. I know I am comparing this episode to onward and upward but it is still considered 3rd best episode of apc just because the other episodes have little to nothing I liked about it. Just two good scenes and two good visuals isn’t enough to save the episode imo. It’s a nothing episode that I would never go back to it like other apc episodes that ren and stimpy recap will be reviewing later on. 2/10.
that's an interesting review. I actually like this episode a lot but Onward & Upward is just really boring and stupid to me and I thought Stimpy's design was bad in it. But I respect your opinion.
The version of Fire Dogs 2 on the dvd release doesn't have the live action segments and has the cartoon segments as 1 long episode with the Ren and Stimpy intro before it
One thing APC reviews tend to forget is the aggravatingly frequent commercial breaks when it aired on Spike TV (and let's not get started on how they stuck commercials in the middle of the original show's 11 minute cartoons, which even the censor-happy NIckelodeon never did, and cut out more things to make time for them). Even though that shouldn't be an issue when watching them on dvd, it probably impacted the length of "Onward and Upward" (too long) and "Ren Seeks Help" (too short). Not that JK's artistic vision was a victim of the network but it sure didn't do this relaunch any favors.
"Eddie and Tommy" are named after animators Tom Minton and Eddie Fitzgerald, who both worked with John Kricfalusi.
Oh, that particular pairing.
Cannot help but think about Pinky and the Brain as well
This is the best APC episode in my opinion
I'd rather say the most pleasant episode of APC.

Kricfalusi always took his precious time.
That's pretty nice of Ralph Bakshi to do.

The only episode that I like because of the flute dance lol
Some of the Ralph Bakishi parts were funny

John K. told the artists to draw Stimpy however they wanted as long as it was funny.
It's nice that you're doing Ralph's Playhouse instead of ignoring it!
That's odd, had no idea of this live action sequence :/
Ralph Bakishi the famous animator
I think Ralph did a pretty good job at expressing the Fire Chief's unhinged personality
Where can I find it to watch?
@@yosefdemby8792 I watch mine on DVD, though there's probably other ways to watch it

3:54 there’s a very good chance for skipping this bit out to the cartoon. And you can skip the ending bit right here: 13:47
The adult party cartoon didn’t have the live segments, but I did record it on VHS with the live segment when it aired on Spike TV.
I honestly haven’t seen this one in full. I vaguely remember the flute scene and that’s it. And maybe Ralph Bakshi taking a dump.
Hold that Tiger from Betty Boop 😂😂

Fun Fact: The Live action scene was homaging an old sitcom called the Honeymooners.
(My review for Fire Dogs 2 will be on the second part).
I didn’t know there was a sitcom live action during this

Are you the same person who runs that Awe youtube channel by any chance?
yes, it's a SpongeBob channel :)
Wow, the video has two parts
For some reason its listed as two separate epsiodes (the reason is John K being late as usual)
I don't know this one is eh
Not a 2 parter
Ralph’s playhouse is entirely based on the Honeymooners tv series and Jackie Gleason’s character he played being named Ralph
You know, Tommy=Ren, while Eddie=Stimpy, see?
Probably the only good ren and stimpy adult party cartoon episode
