How to install paint protection film on Tesla Model Y doors

- Tesla forgot to instal the paint protection film on my Tesla so I did it myself ! If you are getting rock chips on your doors consider applying paint protection film. This film is 3M, and you can do it yourself. I found the Xpel Gel slip solution works really well for applying the film. This film got a little tacky even with the gel, and it was more tacky than Xpel that I have previously used. If you are new to applying paint protection film PPF, you may want to consider getting a set of special picks that are great to lift the film if you have made a mistake and have to reposition the ppf.

Thanks Tesla that you did not put those in the factory like Lexus did on my IS300 h . Thank you for selling us an unfinshed car of 67.000 euro. Over time you will change your vision on this practice. Happy with my Model Y but I don’t need this stress. Thanks for the great video which did help. The instructions of 3m and Tesla say that you can mix 15 % babyshampo with 85 % water to spray on the car to move the protectionfolio during the installation.
Hey Thanks for the comment, and you are right, you can use babyshampoo as well. I just wanted to try the Gel as I'm doing the front bra and I heard the Gel is good as the bra can "float" on the Gel and its easy to move around. I should title this video to Tesla forgot to install my PPF so I did it myself !!!!

I am in Germany and took delivery of my Model Y Long Range about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I just found out that door films, exactly like the ones in this video, are pre installed on both rear doors.
Hey there and thanks for the comment. They should all be installed. I don't think anywhere the customer should have to instal these, as the customer might not know how. I think Tesla where I am (in Canada) was too busy. At least they left them in the frunk for me so I didn't have to buy them. I just did the A pillars and front bumper. The A pillars were easy. The bumper was not, but it turned out good. Hope you are having a nice day !!!
I got them installed but I installed ppf on my whole car myself
Congrats on that !! I did PPF on the front bumper and have not posted that. It actually went pretty well. I'm noticing now that I'm getting chips on the hood so I'm going to have to touch up the hood and apply PPF. I think the front bumper was probably the hardest part so the hood should be much easier.
@@GarageKing doing ppf while the car is new is obviously better, before you start getting any rock chips. front bumper was the hardest for me too so I did it at the end.. hood is very straight forward.
@@stevkoria I hear ya, I did the front, a pillars, and the rear (this video) when the vehicle was new. I didn’t think the hood would get as many chips as it’s getting so I’m going to do that very soon. Oh and I did the headlights. I’m thinking I might do the front fenders or see if there is a kit that covers the forward part of them as they are prone to chipping by the headlights. Appreciate the comment :)
@@GarageKing ya i would definitely recommend fenders and Mirror if you can .. my friend who didn’t do ppf is regretting it now.. now he has to get paint corrected before installing ppf which is expensive
