Thank you so much for the tip about the cable! I was about to throw my bike in the trash…could NOT get it to shift cleanly on both ends…just like you said…until I rerouted the cable. 3 years later and this vid helped me!!Thanks again!

Great advice about cable into the derailleur groove! Thanks to that I`ve done my conversion setup in 20 mins, shifts perfectly: used Shimano 105 5700 2x10 shifters, XT 10sp cassette, SLX 9 speed derailleur (old, pre-dynasys)
Big smile on my face when this Frankenstein worked as expected :)

    Nice...👍
GRX is expensive. An Olivio nine speed rear derailleur with Sora levers and an Altus two chainring front derailleur should work.
You see very few bikes with full groupsets anymore so mixing and matching is fine...👍

Just wondering because I would like to change the handlebar on my trekking bike for a road one,

@@willemrm4033 yes to my understanding the Sora 9-speed shifter and derailleur are compatible with any other Shimano 9 speed (road or mountain) parts. I do not know on the front mech, but Sora is easy in such a way that it actually provides both road and MTB 9 and 3 speed shifters. blog.artscyclery.com/science-behind-the-magic/science-behind-the-magic-drivetrain-compatibility/ here is the only exception to this and some more explanations www.bikeradar.com/advice/buyers-guides/a-complete-guide-to-rear-derailleurs/#:~:text=Shimano%20derailleur%20compatibility,road%20shifters%20or%20vice%20versa. "Shimano derailleur compatibility
Most 8- and 9-speed Shimano mountain bike and road kit is inter-compatible because they both use the same cable pull ratio. This means that you can use an 8 -or 9-speed mountain bike derailleur with road shifters or vice versa.
The only exception is pre-1997 9-speed Dura-Ace gearing, which won’t play nicely with anything because it uses a totally different cable pull ratio. "

@@innocentiuslacrim2290 Thanks very much, front derailleur would have to remain an MTB one I suppose, as the Sora - or the 105 - triple one are meant for 50-39-30 blades if i'm right. that must be rather problematic on the 44-32-22 Alivio T4010 cranks. I'm not sure about 11 speed but am tempted to say it wouldn't work as the pull ratios are different.
Anything with 11 ranging to 50 is going to be a stretch; you'd be better off dropping the front chainring size and getting an 11-40 cassette or something.
