Thank you so much. This was very helpful for two reasons. Number one, the little cap with tongue on the shifter cable, and two, the fact that there is no cap inside the shifter for the brake cable.
Your video saved me a lot of time as I am a newbie, those popular youtube cycling videos doesn't even helped me because they skipped or trim their videos a lot and focus the video more on their faces. Thank you Sir Godbless you
Does the cabling housing for the brake have to go all the way in till it stops, or it can it stop a bit short before it reaches the end? I may have cut my cable housing wrong :(.
Both the cables come out on the inside of the lever right? My bars have a cable hole on outside of lever and a cable hole on inside of lever, so these levers might not work unless I use bar tape to guide one of the cables externally right?
Hi thanks for this, do you think the ferules with the tounges are essential? Could a regular cable ferrule without the tounge be used or would it spoil the cable action. It's a right pain trying to get hold of a ferule (end cap) with that tounge. thx
Hi, Just picked up a pair of these shifters second hand. Unfortunately no plastic end caps came with them (3:20 on your video). Can these be purchased separately or would any other ferrule with a groove work? Thanks
I’ve just checked all the gear cable kits I have and everyone has two of the shifter ferrels in the pack!! That’s why it’s a kit to fit inner and outer cables to both derailleurs from both shifters!
Thanks for this great vid! Really helpful. I have a question - I can't quite see on the vid... is there a grey plastic runner inside the slot for the gear cable stopper? I'm just trying to change mine and have noticed that on the left shifter there is a grey inner plastic part that isn't present on the right shifter. Is it supposed to be like that, or have I lost a piece? Complete novice here so sorry if that's a ridiculous question!
excellent vid, thank you. for us having to upgrade 20 yr old non serviceable ultegra shifters to sora (because they're 9 speed) is a pain. Q. would you reuse the old shimano outers on the gear cable or switch to the new sora outers which look a bit different (using the new gear cable).
It took me a while to test it but Sora shifters works with Acera rd, it's just a little more sensitive shifting upwards to easier gears, also it works well with 11-40 cassette
This video is literally 1000 times better than anything I have seen online for installing these cables.

This is the best guide on the Internet

What do you do if the cable is already cut and not in the lowest gear?
Very helpful

Thank you
Fantastic
Is it the same for the left shifter?
Yes!

Obrigado pelo vídeo 😸

hello, is it difficult to install road shifters on a fintess flat bar bike ?
Trying to find outer cable ends. Amazon?
Search online for Shimano SIS outer gear casing.
Thanks a lot!

I'm finding it hard to get thebuld cable out. I suppose I just have to use a small flat screwdriver or something to lift the end out.
This video may help you!

That’s a very specific gear cable end. I just bought some of these 2nd hand but don’t see the ends. Will any end do please?
The correct cable end for the shifter comes in any Shimano gear cable set.
Thanks mate

You will get the correct ones in a Shimano gear cable kit!
@@FreeToCycle Thanks for the reply - I can't see a ferrule with that groove in the gear cable pack from shimano... Is it a special order item?

My old cable snapped and the head is now stuck inside, is there a way of getting it out e.g. removing the whole thing and taking it apart? TIA

I would use the outer cables that came with the gear cable kit!
Gracias, fue de mucha ayuda
thanks
Can you shift Sora rd with Acera shifter for flat bar?
my guess is yes. they are both 9 spd and from memory the mtn bike also uses the HG50 rear 9 speed cassette. Just a guess though.
It took me a while to test it but Sora shifters works with Acera rd, it's just a little more sensitive shifting upwards to easier gears, also it works well with 11-40 cassette
Is it possible to install this lever onto Shimano Sora R3500?
Of course
@@renzocipriani Thanks
thanks.
Brilliant.Except of course I couldn't even make it to that bit coz I can't remove the old cable.
TOO LATE ! I've pulled so hard to get it out I've probably damaged the shifter beyond repair !
ruclips.net/video/MWDuQRXiGO4/видео.html
Anyone who has idea if I can convert sora r3500 to r3000 by just changing the shifter?
Brilliant thanks !!
Thank You!!
Thanks!
Great. Thanks!
Thank you!
