    Nice to see 'Crappy-Tire' has started to stop from OEMing garbage DMM's from Colluck. I have 5 more CT meters bought on-sale over the years and some of them have 0.1" clearance between PCB traces coming directly off the probes, so naturally I have limited those to LV bench work only. I have the other DMM (shown at 5:01 on left) it has less protection but I found it has an interesting trait - it does a good job on resistance right down to 0.1 ohm and that's something even my Fluke-77II doesn't do to well. My next purchase will be a Brymen 869s from TME in Europe - that thing for the money just can't be beat and with 200,000 counts.. that's the "ducks-guts"

    • @KeepOnTesting
      @KeepOnTesting  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, they have definitely improved over the years..input protection has never been stellar with CT meters but things are getting better. Interesting note on the low ohm capabilities I'll have to look further , a definite plus at this price point. Agreed, the BM869 would be a welcome addition to any test bench and will definitely get us meterphiles drooling 😍 congrats on your future purchase!

    1000 volts through a 22guage wire-?? That is a pee-weak continuity beeper, when probemasters make zero difference thats pretty bad. There are however molded in supports on the rear lower case half to support and capture the input jack sleeves. The display is a nice size with bold digits, also the circuit board is surprisingly better than expected, it actually offers some meaningful input protection in a very low price range, this meter is a definite step up from a Harbor Freight type 830 cheapie, better than a few others in this price range as well. One could swap out the peizo for a louder one for a better continuity volume, change out the leads to make it a pretty good low dollar rig. You could do much worse for the price.

    I am a DIY homeowner who has used this meter happily for several years. I am a little confused in that it has the exact same number as the one reviewed but a different functinality at the lower right of the dial. There is no mention of battery testing, rather a diode test spot and one other. My whole purpose to watch was to see if it would properly test small batteries but am left wondering why exactly the same model of meter has different functionality. I would have thought that would warrant a different model number. Good video though.

    Well I have to say im also more than surprised by the better than usual input protection in such a low cost device. This is kind of what the Harbor Freight freebie 830B meters could/should be if they werent built to giveaway prices. Its obviously a cheap-o meter and continuity isnt great but its to be expected half the time in this range - but if it measures accurately and performs its basic functions it still serves a useful purpose. It has a decent display & range switch and the fact that a meter in this price range has any meaningful input protection at all is rare indeed and the fact they cared enough to include it shows even though it was obviously built to a price they didnt go total bargain basement/bottom of the barrel like the scary 830B clones with no fuses or protection of any kind. Its actually irresponsible to even allow such meters as the badly designed 830B's on the market, theyre just plain dangerous.

    • @KeepOnTesting
      @KeepOnTesting  5 лет назад

      You hit the nail on the head! Cheap doesn't have to mean "deadly or complete garbage"...you can sacrifice alot of things but how much does a PTC/MOV and some fuses really cost? I don't get it...but its nice when I see an OEM putting some attention on these "cheap" meters. I still don't understand why basic shielding is almost non-existent...it was standard in design 20+ years ago...?? Basic multimeter design needs to improve and the louder we scream hopefully the more they will listen. Now when do you think we will see an HRC fuse in an 830b ? :)
      Too bad the continuity was so bad, I was hoping we had another surprise on our hands...oh well!

      I already emailed you regarding the allsun webstore as they seem to have a bit better build quality / bang for the buck in the cheap-o meter realm - their slightly more expensive EM420B looked like a pretty good next step up for $17.99. I see theres an EM 420A, B and C in this type.
