Was hoping there would be some links to these 'good quality' leads you mentioned? I'll have to go through the video again and try to listen for the brand names you mentioned. I have a very similar Mastercraft 052-0062-2 unit, using the standard leads that came with it for now. Thanks for taking the time...very helpful for those of us that haven't got a clue on these meters!
The test leads I used were the SANWA-TL-25a available via ebay and other online e-tailers.
They are rock solid, gold tipped leads. Approx 29$ CDN plus shipping. Thanks for watching!
I was looking for something else, and just happened to come across this review of my Mastercraft multimeter, so I had to watch the video.
I have better meters for different jobs, but I bought this model of meter on sale over 10 years ago. It gets minimal care, regular use, and it is still working accurately and well. I also bought it on sale, and thought it was a bit of a gimmick. If I would have known how good it was, I would have bought two, just because. In terms of bang for the buck, I would give it a 5. I have paid a lot more money for a lot worse.
They are darn near indestructible ..
Really solid meters. 👌
Thanks for the extremely detailed review. I just purchased this exact multimeter but never expected to find a video about it specifically. RUclips is still great. :)
You are most welcome. The meter is a rebadged all-sun (original OEM) it's a very good meter and should serve you well.. Thanks for watching!
Just picked one of these up.... thanks for the review, for the price, I am satisfied. Just needed to do some DC 12V and battery testing on an AMP install. Has done the job so far.
Definitely a decent buy especially if you grab it on sale..Great to hear its doing the job for you too!😀👍
Hi Darren. I bought this to figure out if block heater of my semi truck is working or not. Please tell how to use it to figure it out? Thanks in advance.
How to measure the resistance of a copper jug with this multimeter?
I would be grateful for help.
Krystyna
hello, does this multimeter test millivolts? and if so how do you do it, thanks
My meter broke a couple of days ago. I was measuring voltage from a transformer. I was giving the transformer an input voltage of 6 V and output was 52 V and I had set the meter on the 300 V AC setting. It just shows - OL now on all settings.
On the temperature setting, it flashes between -OL and 000. I did not test if that still works.
It can still detect with the non contact voltage thing.
The 2 fuses are ok. I measured them with another meter.
Hello Louis,
I can repair your multimeter if you're interested. Email me, netplicity1@gmail.com

The problem is the shipping cost. And it has to go through the border and they are assholes :)
mine to and I never used it..I went to check continuity of something and it just squeals constantly on that setting and says ol on everything
please explain what shielding you are talking about that is absent.
Shielding is simply a material *usually copper , aluminum that prevents electromagnetic and RF interference from distorting or adversely affecting the multimeters reading.
Small correction at 18:45 LED at the top is for mini-flash light (right blue-button) and the NCV LED is on the front. IMO, it's a shame to see 2000 counts on any newer meters these days.
Roger that. A snafu on my part, indeed I was referring to the led for the flashlight.. Thanks for pointing that out.
Hi Derren Have you had any experience with the 052-0064-4. Love a review on it.
Hi Rob,
Not yet but I will definitively put that meter on my ToDo..stay tuned!
When measuring resistance as you did, you should not hold both lead in your hand, because you are also measuring your own body resistance that is in parallel. Some people have low resistance much than other because of thicker or softer hand and much electrolyte in the body.
Indeed ! Sometimes I just get too excited doing these multimeter reviews. Thanks for watching!
This was my first multimeter. I fully agree with you that the leads suck but I was still used the cheap leads for nearly a year before I got better ones. All around good advice (RUclips recommended your channel with a different Mastercraft multimeter so I figured I would search up the one I had to see the review)
All around, decent video. Nothing I can think of that I disagree with
Cheers Brodie. 👍 Mastercraft sells decent multimeters all things considered, they aren't the OEM but they do stand behind their products. Glad you upgraded the test leads!
when using this to test car battery voltage, what setting should I use?
DC VOLTS / 20 Setting. Make sure the AC/DC select button is out.(DC Volts).
the # is the stock # for CT, 56 hardware 0055 item #. can't remember what the 6 is for been a long time.
I have no problem with CT stock numbers and will often copy them from their catalogue to my cell shopping list. They simplify discussion with customer support when necessary to find the item, or when I call for information on an item.
-X at the end of the product number is a check digit.
(worked at 3 different CanTire stores over the years)
Thanks for posting this ,...just bought one to test a Mashall bias and just saw on the instructions that it's max 300 volt where the plate voltage on the amp is 440 volts !.........can I still use it or I might damage the mutimeter or myself ?........Thanks
Mastercraft has put a 300v rating on this. I'm sure it can do more but I would not recommend trying. Better to use a meter that's appropriately rated especially when it comes amplifiers. If you purchase from CT I believe you have 90 days to return it.
@@KeepOnTesting Thank you Darren ,...will return it and get a stronger one !........Lou
@@lousekoya1803 If you can, I would recommend this Mastercraft model Product #052-0052-2
It's currently on sale for 28$ which is a great deal. Does 600V AC/DC
@@KeepOnTesting Great !!!........I'll go right now and get it !....will report back !
@@lousekoya1803 Perfect, it's great deal. Let me know how it goes.
What kind of leads did you buy/use for this unit?

Great test leads!😀👍
Mine won't turn on, do u have idea what's wrong on it?
Thanks!
Sounds like ..
1) batteries
2) Selector switch
3) Display issue
If you want to send it in..I will repair no charge..😀👍
Batteries😅
it's a 300v version of a 600v E TEK 10709, I think...
I'd give you a 3.5 on your review. Would have preferred the accuracy comparisons against the Fluke with the OE leads. I also don't agree with your comments on CT stock number system, which I find more useful/consistent than others, frankly.
Thanks for your comments...
I still prefer the traditional brand nomenclature compared to a numeric series, especially when the series is changed/upgraded with no apparent numeric revision. It just leaves too many inconsistencies as far as specs are concerned. Call me old fashion, but a Fluke 87-V designation leaves nothing to the imagination so this implementation works. Why CT insists on calling old and new models the same revision just doesn't make any sense..YMMV !
Thanks for watching..lots more on the way.
@@KeepOnTesting Yeah, I have the same part number, but other than being blue, it is very different. I does do capaciance as well and the temp is in celcius. I cant figure it out and that is how I found your video.
@@stevecharles3430 Hi Steve, let me know if I can help or give you some guidance. There's a new Canadian Tire multimeter video review coming out shortly as well.
Not that it adds much but I work at Canadian tire and the number (052-0055-6) is the product number that we use in the store to find said product. Don't think mastercraft intended it to be a name for the multimeter.
CT probably didn't intend the naming schema but undoubtedly it is what it is..those crazy numbers are indeed the multimeter model #'s for better or for worse.. 😉 Definitely a mouthful!
What would cause the continuity setting to just beep without the leads contacting anything? I'm assuming it's built faulty?
Check your fuses, one might be blown.
@@KeepOnTesting thank you
@@keescanadees Let me know if that did the trick.
@@KeepOnTesting hey Darren still beeps the moment I select continuity function.
The meter itself works when I touch the wires together, but yeah, the beeping never stops.
@@keescanadees OK, try putting in a fresh battery. If that doesn't work, ship it to me. I'll send you a brand new Multimeter no charge in return. I might use yours on a repair segment♻️ Email: netplicity1@gmail.com if you're interested. 👍
How do you remove the back cover???
Remove 2 screws at the bottom, then pry off.
@@KeepOnTesting Thanks.
You Do a lot better than the guide at describing functions.
I do not like the AC/DC switch If you like let me know I was around when we first switched to metric in Canada and I can help you with that .Thanks for your time you probably should take up teaching
Thx Perry..I appreciate the 👌 kind words. Canadian Tire multimeters are incredibly popular on the channel, I think alot of Canadians have owned at least one at some point. Agreed, alot of times the user manuals aren't clear or concise nearly enough as they should be.
Keep on Testing 😀👍
Glad I got my unit at half price, now I have to get new leads. I can't figure out how the cheap leads plug into the unit, they don't fit the holes.
Did you remove the safety shroud?
@@KeepOnTesting Didn't know there was one, now I see it. There were no instructions with it. Thanks, now I bought a set, at least they're just $5 off evilbay.
@@crushingvanessa3277 Great..enjoy the multimeter..it's a great little instrument!
@@KeepOnTesting Just found the instructions inside the folded paper part of the packaging. Sometimes crappy tire is annoying.
@@crushingvanessa3277 ..hehe...at least you found them.. 😅👍
my leads on this work fine for a long time now
Thx for the update..! Its definitely a robust little multimeter!
I have one, and don't like 2 things.
- the temperature is only in Farenheit, no Celsius available
- the AC/DC selector is very small, and I have to double check what I measure.
Excepted this, it's a basic useful meter.
Good points.. funny how temp only supports Fahrenheit...especially considering this is sold as a Canadian Tire branded multimeter.
@@KeepOnTesting Right.
And I'm in Quebec :)
@@nalinux Hey..were neighbors mon ami..Ottawa-Gatineau 😀👍
@@KeepOnTesting En effet ! :P
I.m want it mr darren
do you know where I can find a pdf of this manual?
Hi John, if you still require the manual, I'll scan it and send you a download link as there is nothing posted on the CT website.
Darren Walker yes I do still need it. That would be awesome. Thanks.
No problem John. I'll have it for you shortly.
@@KeepOnTesting would it be possible to send it to me too tks
No problem, send me an email, netplicity1@gmail.com
Oh my f___k what did I just watch 🤣🤣🤣
Check out my latest Mastercraft DMM review ...not a bad meter if you can find it on sale!
it is useful in India for 440 voltage
It's a decent meter.. I believe all sun is the OEM.
