***All you safety gurus will be pleasantly shocked (No worry it has good input protection) that it carries an ETL Rating (Intertek). Conforms to UP STD 61010-1, 61010-031, 61010-2-030,61010-2-033
Certified to CSA (Canadian safety regulatory body) C22.2 NO 61010-1,61010-031,61010-2-030,61010-2-033. These are actually printed on the front BEZEL of the meter!!
Thanks for the review. Just picked this up today. List price $69.99 got it on sale for $29.99. Nice little meter.
It's a surprisingly good little multimeter!
Btw, I'll have another Mastercraft Multimeter review coming shortly!
At first I thought I was going to see a review of my CT multimeter but something didn't seem right. The model number for yours is 052-0052-2 while mine is 52-0052-2. Mine is about four or five years old now and has a slightly different look to it. It has a rubber protective case on it and a transistor test function. Another CT digital multimeter I have is quite a few years old now and I can barely read the model number on it. 52-0055-6 I think. I use it out in the garage where it gets used frequently while the newer one stays in the house for audio work. Cheers from Victoria BC!
Canadian Tire for whatever reason seems to keep the same name/number scheme irregardless of the model. In this case it appears they've simply added a 0 to the updated model. Very confusing indeed!
😀👍
That's the bad one! The ETL logo spells it all! lol You want the cUL one that's a few years older. Same model different design. {Shakes fist at the Mastercraft elves}
Still...if you can acquire this meter on sale it's good value. Despite the ratìngs..it is a decent meter. Probably the best CT has put out to date. Great display and pretty solidly built.
I believe it was manufactured 36th week of 2016 according to the board itself
Yes indeed. Thanks for pointing that out. A relatively new revision.
Funny how they kept the exact same model number over the years. I just calibrated my dads old meter dc voltage and I am pretty pleased with it , its over 25 years old spent lots of time in a cold dusty garage and has seen its share of use.
Only thing wrong with it is the transistor hfe test module is loose on the npn section. Not sure if the new models have that but the old one has a rubber protective casing around it.
Not much top end numbers for measurements but is built solid.
Cheers from Orillia Ontario Canada.
Hey Luc.
Great to see your keeping your dad's vintage CT multimeter in your collection.. Yes, that naming scheme is a little unusual! . At least they're decently built. 😅 Cheers 🍻 from Ottawa/Gatineau 👍
@@KeepOnTesting nice to hear back from you.
You used the word collection........yes thats the proper description , I now have 4 multimeter and it sure feels like I'm building a collection. Cheers
@@lucbeauvais1847 Great stuff...! You can never have too many.. check out our new website www.keepontesting.com for weekly updates 😀 channel / multimeter news and more. 👍
I have one of these, same part number but a lot different. It still works ok but the relative and datahold buttons do the same thing.
Good tutorial on the multimeter, I just purchased this model & this video helped me wrap my head around it " thanks " 👍 .. BTW if anyone could give a link for downloading a manual it would be appreciated ✌️
A very helpful video, thanks. One complaint: It looks like you left the LCD screen protective film on, yes? If so, did I miss you're saying something about it? Because I was ready to assume the display was not that sharp when maybe it is?
Cheers Brad. The display is very good on these multimeters. Crisp and lots of contrast. My bad for leaving the screen protection on during the review 🙃
It doesn't take such much to blow this meter. I went to test a car battery while it was set on the 10A setting. *sparks*
No problem, just replace the fuse, right? Wrong. A new fuse didn't bring it back, and it just squeals when you try to measure current.
Whenever a multimeter measures a current it is actually measuring the voltage drop across the shunt resistor. A shunt resistor is a resistor with a very low resistence. So if your supposed to be in voltage but youre in current mode and the power supply is 12V Since the shunt is in parallel to the 100Ωresistor (lets say) you'll have 12V across your shunt which current wise is 100x12= 1200Amps across your shunt which will melt the fuse and probably destroy the cheaper multimeters..😔
Hi darren. Great review. I have this one. But my voltage reading calibration is of by 2 or 3 volts. Compared to my other meters. Can these be calibrated some how
Hi Michael..Are you referring to DCV on your multimeter?
Yes it can be calibrated via the VR4 calibration pot on the pcb for DCV. It's a decent multimeter all around and I still love that green backlight 👍 Let me know how it goes . If you like I could calibrate it for free if you have any problems. I assume you're in Canada eh 😏
I am in canada.lol eh. Thank u for info
@@Michael-en3ylSounds good..let me know how it goes. Feel free to follow-up via email, netplicity1@gmail.com 👍
Hey darren. Tried calibrating meter. It went up maybe 1.25 volts. As i turn pot go up then starts going down. Also the numbers r constantly showing a neg sign and numbers changing even without leads in. Any sugestion
Also there is a vr1 and vr2. Are those also dc voltage calibration
Can it measure peak voltage, if so, how?
Not with this multimeter. You need a multimeter that supports peak or has a Max/MIN feature
The manual lists this meter with temperature sensitivity, as well as stating it can read in C and F. Also that it accepts a K-type thermocouple. Do you know how to get this meter to read temperature? Should I just plug the thermocouple into the adapter that came with the meter and plug that into the meter? Also there is not a dedicated temperature setting, should I use DC volts?
This meter does not support Temperature/Thermocouple readings. There are other Mastercraft meters that do Temp but this dmm unfortunately isn't one of them. When "Temperature" is supported there will always be a Temperature indicator on the meter dial. Some have a thermosensor onboard the pcb while most do not and you plug in the Temp probe accordingly. My other Mastercraft DMM video highlighted a meter which supported Temp if you care to take a look. Btw, I will be reviewing more Mastercraft meters soon. Thanks for watching.
I have a 96 volt ebike battery I want to test the voltage but not sure if it's the V with the line and 3 dots under it 🤔 I have the Mastercraft 052-0052-2
Yes it's DC VOLTAGE ⚡️ so straight line --- not ac ~
@@KeepOnTesting Thanks
@@walleyehunter8862 Anytime my friend 👍
Hi! thanks for this review. Do you, or anyone here, know where I can get info on the previous hardware version of this same model #? (key difference is 20A and different buttons layout)
I have an older manual for the same model..this was the previous incarnation but its still 10A. Manual is about 10 years old.
Email me, netplicity1@gmail.com if you want it.👍
Thank you !
Darren you recommend this product ?
It's a good meter.. If you buy one locally try to get it on sale..
ETL.. Mark of the beast!!!
Yes...however I will take it over the ultra ambiguous CE stamp!!
AUDIO PROBLEM-- On the opening theme, I had to turn down the volume on this video, since it is much too loud. Then, I found I could not hear your voice, and had to turn the volume nearly to maximum. No similar problems experienced with other RUclips videos.
What are the leads you like? Probe Master and Sanwa?
I love my Sanwa test leads ,,no doubt about that (especially the TL-25A) Also the Probemasters and the AUTOOL test leads (link above in Description)..the last pair is unbelievably great considering just how low cost they are..truly 👏!!
Where do you get better leads, for this model ? (Canada)

The link above is a fantastic set of leads for little money!
@@KeepOnTesting They'll fit on this Mastercraft 052-0052-2 model ?
@@AZTEC_ARTS Yes indeed ..they fit perfectly and make the multimeter perform even better! I have a pair on the same multimeter right now!
@@KeepOnTesting Thanks !
Hi folks, can I do a min/max test with this meter (I currently own) August 28, 2019
Hi Kit,
Unfortunately the answer is no.
There is no MIN/MAX on this multimeter!
Darren Walker tnx, for the prompt reply !
@@Kit2CanadaNo problem, Its too bad, it's a great dmm and the min/max would have really made it stellar!
