Thank goodness I found this video! I’m a 50 yr old woman with zero experience with this stuff. I’m single and tired of paying or asking for help so I’m learning to do this stuff for myself so I can teach my daughter and grand daughter to be self sufficient. You tube has helped me do things I never thought possible! Thank u so much for making this video slow and perfectly explained. 😁

Absolutely the best explanation I have ever seen someone do to make it easy for a 2 year old to understand what they are talking about. Not really I was just being sarcastic on the 2 year old part lol. I have been trying to find a video just like this one for hours tonight and when I said lord help me understand what I’m doing here because I’m going to try to figure it out one probe at a time and pray that I don’t end up like the KFC extra crispy tonight 😂. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and making it so much easier to learn and understand your explanations. Absolutely amazing work 👏👏🙏🙏❤️❤️

This video was exactly what I have been searching for!! The clear way you describe every detail as you go through the steps eased all the anxiety, fear, and frustration built up over the years regarding testing testing anything with my volt meter other than batteries! I now have the confidence to go test my outlets!
Other videos explain how to do things but usually leave out many small details and I think that is because it is assumed that the viewer already has knowledge of electricity beyond flipping light switches and plugging things in … which I do not.
I read a comment from a woman who said she had always thought the larger slot of the plug-in was the positive side and I laughed! But I laughed because I have always believed the same thing!!
You are now my hero because you obviously know your audience and I am very grateful and thankful to you for taking your time and making the effort to share your knowledge in the way you do.
I will click the ‘follow’ and return many times in the days and months to come now that I found you!
    God Bless you!
From a new fan on San Juan Island, Washington state.

Great Electrical Video! Will save me several trips to my Apartment Breaker Box! Heck, I thought the big slot on an outlet was the positive hot one because it was definetly the biggest! You finally gave me the balls to finally stick my voltometer, which I've had in my toolbox for over 15 years, into a wall outlet receptacle. Prior to your cool ecture, I was only using my voltometer to check the remaining power of my aaa and aa 1.5 batteries!

Set voltmeter to 200v. On voltmeter, plug black cable into COM and red cable in VmA. Black needle goes in first in bigger outlet slot, red needle goes in smaller outlet slot. Should read 120v approximately.

Good afternoon. This video has taught me how to use a multi reader. So I’ve been having a lot of issues when playing music and recording. I keep getting grounding issues. I use the device to check my ground and everything seemed fine but after using this multi meter and using your video I’m getting readings when there should be zero. Not just one socket but multiple sockets. I did what your video said I put the black probe into the third hole at the bottom and then I put the red probe in the first slot on the left, which is the longer slot and I’m getting readings going up from 2 to 4. I also found a socket that was upside down in the shed . What does this reading mean if it’s supposed to be zero, and I’m getting two and three?

Hi. Good video but wondering why it matters if you put the red lead in live/hot wire when it's alternating current. Obviously it makes sense for DC testing as the polarity would be wrong but don't think it matters for AC?

Hello I have a question, so I have a blank plate and I looked behind it to see if I could add an outlet to it, because there is only 2 outlets in one big room I have. When I did what you’re doing, it kept reading 200 and above. I know this is highly dangerous. Unfortunately the old owner of the home screwed around with everything and I mean everything is so messed up, especially the electrical wiring. Do I need to use a 20 amp outlet or is there such a thing as a 30 amp outlet...? Or should I just leave it be.

I really appreciated your video...it's so concise...and gave me confidence that I could actually test the socket without killing myself! I have one question though, if you could please answer me. I bought an earthing matt. It's suppose to ground you to the earth when you can't be outside and actually walk on the earth. So the matt has a snap that's attached to a wire that goes into the ground only of your 120 plug. Somehow this wire serves to detoxify you of excess "bad energy" while you are sitting or standing on the pad. 🧐🤔 Anyway how do I test that wire to see if it's actually completely void of energy? Am I really being grounded? You can check this out on RUclips under "earthing mats". Any advice you could offer would be thoroughly appreciated! Thank you so much and God Bless you!

Thanks for the video, I had one of those auto multimeters that supposedly showed you which way to connect the probes. It would always tell me incorrectly and it would just arc.
This video fixed my issue. Thankfully I didn’t fry my meter, it just fried the probe end.

When measuring AC Voltage it doesn't matter which probe goes into which slot on the receptacle. However, when it comes to measuring a DC voltage it does if you would like to know the polarity, if not it really doesn't matter. If you place the red test probe on the neg and black on pos of a 9 volt battery then you will get a minus reading ( - 9v ). Then you will know that you have your test leads connected backwards on the battery

    Hi,
I tried identifying my hot and neutral.
I stick my black probe on screw and both hole reads half of my house voltage.
    Mine is 240V
Both holes reads 113-120. Does that mean I have 2 hot wires?

  • @frankie1136
