The single most stunning and haunting building I've ever been in, or ever seen. Etched in my soul. Spent 7 years in Germany in the late 80s and early 90s. Koln was my favorite town in Germany. Spent many days there. So much to see and do. The cathedral, the Rhine river, and the zoo/aquarium. All within a small area. I dream of going back again.
I was there many times in my 7 years in Germany. Its a haunting place, and beyond beautiful. The detail in the craftsmanship is hard to comprehend. Koln is worth the trip to Germany all by itself, and this place is the biggest reason. I plan to return.
That otherworldly sophisticated designed chthedral looks like the ceiling of a cave. Where cro magnum or cave people use to dwell thousands of years ago. The pointed cathedral represents the cave droppings inside the caves. They have a satanic aura and an appearance of Evil.

I have had a large colour poster of Cologne Cathedral, framed and mounted on a wall in my shop for over 35 years. When I need inspiration I need only look at the poster. My first encounter with the cathedral was when I saw it in another photograph, taken by US intelligence sources in the dying days of WWII from an aircraft; the city was pulverized but the Cathedral was still standing and I couldn’t see any damage, I was 12 years old and that photo had an electrifying effect on me in that I recognized I was looking at a miracle and one that was literally carved in stone. When I was 19, a friend told me about his trip to Europe. He told me about arriving in Cologne by train and the sight of the Cathedral knocked the wind out of him it was so powerfully overwhelming...and I continue to hear similar remarks about it. A great regret of mine is that I have put off and squandered opportunities to cross the Atlantic and visit Europe for a pilgrimage or something akin to it, to Cologne.
Thanks for the comment. When the lockdown is over, you should do exactly as you have said. Fly to Düsseldorf, take the train to Cologne, and walk out of the station looking upwards. It’s like looking at a mountain, an incredible site. I hope that you get to see it.
What an amazing otherworldly sophisticated culture that could create such a thing as this. I've never been to Europe but this sure inspires me to save money and visit , i live in Florida where we have boring condos and square high rises on the beach. A building like the cathedral is hard to believe it even exists, it touches the heart and soul so much.
You should definitely visit Europe if you want to see some really old architecture, much of Cologne was rebuilt after the Second World War to its original design.

@@Dlionentertainment That was the hole point of it. The outside was meant to scare people into going to church. And tell them about the divine punishment that awaites all sinners and heretics. At the same time every shape, bow and spire points upwards, to god. Once Inside you could bath in the eternal light of him. Wide, open halls full of colourful light as imitation of paradise on earth. The hole building is shaped like a catholic cross and "oriented". Which means it points to the holy land in the orient. Thats where the word orientation comes from btw. Back in the middle ages the statues and reliefs at the portals of cathedrals would have been brightly coloured and the clean limestone shined bright in the sunlight. An invitation to step inside. Thats part of the gothic style. Like Notre Dame, which i would consider to be the first gothic cathedral. So please don't speak of the devil just because you don't understand this style and the times in which it was concived.
Cologne cathedral is beautiful. We visited it many years ago. Some of the tombs are so old they are almost black. The side chapel dedicated to Jesus mother, Mary, gas some of the most gorgeous jewellery I have ever Seen. I would love to go back to see the new window that was installed recently
I have to acknowledge the political overtones: the 3 kings = the Holy Roman Empire, but the building is superlative, one of the very finest anywhere in the world. Thank you for this video.

es una joya de la iglesia catolica..It is a jewel of the Catholic Church
You must. I saw it as a young 18 year old when Cologne was still in West Germany and was never impressed by old buildings and churches but when I saw this I was struck by its beauty and sheer size. It was the first historic building to ever make an impression on me and I’ve never forgotten the amazement of first seeing it. Please make the effort to visit it one day you will not be disappointed. Videos do not do it justice.

For two reasons: One because it was recognized a historical landmark and house of worship, and two because Allied bomber crews found it to be a very useful navigation aid. As a result, the cathedral avoided a lot of the destruction that hit the city around it (though a tank battle did occur not far from its front steps).

Fuck all you religious cunts. This is a beautiful piece of art I don't care who built it what religion they belonged to or what religion this building stands for. All religion is poison
