A word of caution, when installing new lines always blow them out before installation. ( love your how to's, )
Man, that is a really good add. We do that, but completely forgot to put it in the video. Absolutely make sure the lines are clear before installing....don't want any debris...dead bugs, etc. getting into the works.
Thank you! 👍
Great call on replacing the hoses.
When I bought the RoadGlide the oil cooler hose on the right side was rubbing on the voltage regulator bracket. So I put a length of plastic hose cover over it. 😎👍🇨🇦
Good Tip!
All hoses on a Harley, OEM or aftermarket, should be checked regularly.
Using a cover like you did is great preventative work.
Thanks!
Nice vid DKC and thanks for keeping up with real world maintenance and updates 🤘
Thank you, appreciate the kind words, and glad you are finding the videos useful/interesting. 👍
Thanks for posting another very informative video!
I have the same set-up on my 2020 Trike but I installed it with the optional braided hose which is a very high quality, robust hose. I routed both of my hoses on the outside of the frame rail as I was uncomfortable with the entry and exit points on the inside of the frame rail. I put some split electric wire loom over each hose, which is not overly robust, but with both hoses on the outside of the frame rail, it is very easy to inspect during an oil change and address any issues before it jeopardizes the hose itself.
The only other suggestion I would offer is that I would be willing to pay an additional price for a custom-molded hose for the short hose as the braided hose is less flexible and I made a loop in that hose to relieve any concern of stressing the connection or risking a kink which obviously would be catastrophic.
Keep up the great videos and developing great products!
All Great Suggestions. Thank you for adding your experience to the conversation. All good stuff! 👍
Enjoyed the riding intro with explanation.
Thanks!

Like that oil catch pan.
👍
I don’t have the oil cooler but do have the remote oil filter. I ran 3/8 gas line for the oil line . Rubbing occurred after about 2k miles at the front of the primary and I lost every drop of oil in about five minutes. I replaced the line and covered it at the possible rub spots, particularly where it drops by the kickstand and under the primary with 5/8 gas line. Still being nervous about losing my motor I’ve purchased 3/8 steel braided line with a nylon outer casing made for race cars from Jegs at a cost of $65 for ten feet. I didn’t expect a rub through so early on the install even though the instructions say check out the lines every 5k miles. I don’t personally think the lines will pose a problem with them zip tied together if they’re tight but since the only way to get them from the filter adapter down to the frame rail is by the kickstand and under the primary then the possibility of rubbing is greatly increased and particular attention is required at that point. I’m not a hack, been doing this sort of stuff for about 50 years. I did mention what happened to me in a review on the product but didn’t get a response which may be why they came out with this video. The product is well made and the intended theory is good however the potential danger is real if proper care isn’t exercised while doing the install.
Thanks for your comment.
We made the video because I was going on a big trip out to Arizona, and it was time to do my regular inspection of my oil lines. I found that after 4 years and about 40K miles that the hose was showing some age and needed to replace it. So we videod it.
I did not see your review, and our software does not let us respond to reviews. However, and email or a call to us always gets a response.
You are correct, as noted in the instructions, it is very important to route the lines where there are no rub points against anything that may cut/gouge the lines. Super happy to hear you got yours routed well now. 👍
@@DKCustomProducts good CYA.
Great video. Can you give me a link to where I could purchase that yellow ratcheting torque screwdriver/wrench?

I love your guys videos and custom parts! I have a 2016 ultra limited twin cooled. I am interested in the oil cooler and oil filter relocation kit. I am also interested in converting my air cleaner or to a external breather. I have the S&S air cleaner with open element that uses the stock chrome outer cover. Thanks for all the great information you guys share!
Thank you! I am so glad you like our video content! Please email our Customer Service at support@dkcustomproducts.com or call 662-252-8828 and they can help you with your order and any questions you might have.
That oil filter does not have an anti-drainback valve... I take it you see no issue mounting it horizontal? Great video again :-)
Thanks, glad you are finding the videos useful/interesting.
There is no issue, pressure builds faster with these oil filter than OEM and other paper filters.

Looking forward to that hose clamp video. Seriously.
Coming soon!
I appreciate you doing these informational vids. I have to ask; why don’t you guys do these on a lift???
We have 2 lifts, one has a project bike on it right now. The other has a Street Glide on it that is getting a transmission rebuilt.
Around the beginning of the year we will be getting one bike of 1 of the lifts and another on it.
We should start doing some videos with the bikes on the lift, would definitely be easier to video. :)
Just wondering what the psi would be at the typical oil cooler and lines connecting it.
It's going to range from 10-psi to 50 psi, with the majority of the time in the 30-35 psi range.
My only concern about running one line on the outside of the frame rail is using a biker bar for trailering. The biker bar clamps to the outside of the frame rail too.
Understood. Lots of folks run them both lines inside the frame rail. No issues with that at all. It is just my preference to run one on either side....not even sure why I prefer that...just the way I have done it on several bikes.
Always feel free to email or call with any questions.

Thank you for looking at our parts.
Why not use braided?, I've even purchased a larger hose, split it down one side put it over my existing hose, then zip tied it.
Helps prevent the rubbing.
Great point!
We do offer braided line as an option. The rubber hose inside the braid still will wear with heat and cold and eventually need to be replaced.
The black braid is nylon and wears at about the same rate as the rubber (but looks nicer). The stainless braid will not wear, but it will scratch anything it touches.
Both are a bit more work at cutting and installing.
All that said, Braided line is definitely an option to be considered.
@@DKCustomProducts I got the black braided lines with my kit and really like the look but caution anyone inexperienced with braided hoses that you need to know what you're doing when you cut the hose... measure twice, cut once is a really good rule to follow but after you measure, wrap a few layers of tape before cutting... and double check your measurements after you tape the hose. I cut mine with a cutting wheel then cleaned out the hose really good before continuing, the debris left behind from the cutting wheel is not a nice thing to be circulating in your oil! Now to push the hose over the fitting can be a challenge but soaking in hot water for a minute or so makes a huge difference... but this is where the braids like to fray out so make sure you are using a water proof tape.
at this point you can clamp as usual but I would recommend using a 1 to 2" long piece of heat shrink at every end, this not only prevents the fraying and painful pricks you get when working with this hose but it leaves you with a nice looking clean install.
You'll need to inspect this hose the same as you would any other hose and be careful as it will scratch into your painted or aluminum surfaces it's routed next to and touching so heat shrink or tape over any points where this hose touches any part of the bike you don't want marred up.
You can't inspect the internal hose quite so easily so changing after 5 or 6 years is a good way to prevent a leak.
Last word of caution is don't route a stainless braided hose too close to any positive battery terminal or positive wire, and also stay away from the back side of the starter with this type hose, if it does make contact, even for a split second, it can and will spark but that spark can cut a hole in the braid and the hose inside it... ask me how I know... but that's the last thing anyone would want is for a stainless braded hose to chafe thru a battery cable and you're a few hundred miles from home or the nearest town where you can get a new hose etc...
Is it possible to install a oil cooler on a 2018 road glide ultra???
Yes, and the Twin Cooled M8's, like your Road Glide Ultra really benefit from them. Here is a link to the kit- www.dkcustomproducts.com/oil-filter-relocation-oil-cooler-combo-pkg-harley-touring-dk-ofr-dcoc-2wh.htm
Here is a video of some of our test results from this kit- ruclips.net/video/wRRtRYWm5rw/видео.html
Why do these kits use a filter adaptor instead of the existing oil cooler lines to run oil through the cooler?
If you are not relocating the oil filter, you can use the existing oil cooler lines. Here is a video about the oil filter relocation that gets that oil filter out in the wind and away from the engine, where it inevitably makes a mess when changing the filter.

Thanks for pointing that out! Appreciate the feedback! 👍 MB
@@DKCustomProducts The other question I had about this installation was if the system required more oil to function properly. I am thinking of buying this type of setup for my softail from your website.
It does require only an extra 2-3 ounces. You can see more about the Oil Filter Relo at this link. Just choose the Oil Filter Relo that is for your bike and there is a lot of information on the product description - www.dkcustomproducts.com/oil-filter-relocation-kits-c610.htm

I prefer to use fuel line clamps .
That is absolutely an option that works. In an upcoming video we tested those. They are generally easier to install and less likely to install incorrectly, but we did not like how they were not providing as good of a seal on the oil lines. Probably not a problem, but we were just not comfortable with them in this size.
Does the oil cooler put extra strain on oil pump.
It does not. Some of the passageways in the engine are much more restrictive than the passageways in the oil cooler.
The one factor in the oil loop that can put a load on the oil pump is a paper (OEM & most aftermarket) oil filters.
That is why we use permanent performance oil filters, because with them there is much less strain on the oil pump.
You can see a video where we dyno tested performance oil filter compared with OEM oil filters. You can see that at this link- ruclips.net/video/__WbuX1IT1c/видео.html
@@DKCustomProducts already got the flo oil filter from you can I use it?
@@DKCustomProducts does it interfere when leaning left
@@charlesmc1841 Yes, you can use the cleanable oil filter with our Oil Filter Relocation kit. This will not interfere with leaning.

My concern was with the new adapter that takes the place of the oil filter at engine. When installed you now have the factory in and out nipples plus the in and out nipples on the new adapter. I came to the conclusion that it would be best to just remove factory nipples and replace them with plugs. Not sure how you recommend this procedure, but this is the part that is not mentioned in the install instructions. I am very pleased with the quality of the parts I purchased and the excellent customer service but if plugging the factory nipple holes is the correct way to address this issue, I would think the kit would come with plugs on these models to prevent having to chase them down before the install can be completed. My other concern was, is it a good idea to run both coolers or should the factory installed cooler be removed.
You will remove the OEM oil filter adapter and replace it with the engine side adapter that comes with the kit. Then you will follow the instructions on installing the hose and oil cooler and oil filter relo with your OEM oil cooler.

I hear the highway calling you , thanks ride safe
Thank you!!! You Too. 👍
Is the oil cooler labeled in, and out?, or does that matter?
Yes, it does matter, and yes, they are labeled. Check out the photos at this link, you will see the "IN" and "Out" are engraved right into the metal of the housings.

@@DKCustomProducts cool, thanks.
I was curious.
@@DKCustomProducts oh , I meant on the cooler, mounted on the frame.
@@kevingleason5434 I was wondering the same thing, why not run the hose coming along the frame from the oil filter base, to the outside nipple on the upright cooler, then it would be easier to route the hose from the cooler to the Original Oil Filter base in front of the engine, vs. having to go around the nipple and hose on the cooler, to get to the front of the engine.
Why aren’t those braided lines?
We do offer braided lines as an option, but the kit comes with standard hose for a few reasons.
(1) The braided hose is hard to cut and frays if it is not cut right.
(2) The braided hose is not malleable so it is harder to route because it does not bend like the standard hose.
(3) Harley's use standard hose all over the bike there is no reason not to use it in this installation.
You can see the braided hose that we offer as an option on the machine finish Oil Filter Relocation product page pictures seen at this link - www.dkcustomproducts.com/cnc-oil-filter-relocation-kit-machine-cut-finish-sportster-dyna-softail-touring.htm
