SCARIFYING AFTER SEEDING: I completely agree. I have a 2k[]’ area of fescue that I have over-seeded every year for 15+ years. I have to rake or blow leaves every week to keep them from blanketing and choking the lawn. I used to use a Fescue/KBG mix but the KBG always thinned out in the Transition Zone August heat. My raking dethatched the KBG, so this year I decided to seed first, then Garden Weasel (manually) the whole yard to scarify the soil. It took me 3 hours (and I’m 68 yrs old, with spine fusion). I will be buying an electric dethatcher/scarifier this winter (when they are back in stock) to use next year. This year’s over-seed growth crop (with Barenbrug rhizomatous TTTF, no KBG) is incredible. I have grass growing where it has NEVER germinated before because the seed was embedded. I hand water (too) with a hose-end fan nozzle (box store) covering a 10’ wide section walking backwards like I’m spray painting a house (changing direction with each step backwards). The hand watering closes the scarified soil and seals the seed slightly underground. I was blessed with no-rain for 6 days. By then I already had an inch or more of growth. I am hoping/trusting that using the rhizomatous fescue and no longer using a mix with KBG will diminish the heat/drought thinning and make for less loss and more self-repair. I enjoy watching your channel and wish you joy and success with both your work and your play. You are a blessing to your viewers.
My Bermuda has too much shade in back yard and every summer looks like there is less and less (only green is one piece and the nutdedge). How can I swap my grass for zoysia
Put down pre emergent 2 wks ago have little purple flowers with yellow centers popping up. Still have a few weeds growing. I'm guessing they germinated before pre emergent was applied. Should I spray weed killer on existing weeds.
I thought you were back at the house. The fence and swimming pool background shot had me. BTW, when are you going to talk about the split system for pre-emergent again?
Hey Doc, i have a quick question for probably one of your next videos. We both live in GA! How do you deal with the squirrels?? It's been a losing battle for me trying to stop them from tearing up my lawn every day (especially around this time of year)
Hey doc question I think I have rabbits eating my rye and leaving there feces in my yard which make lawn look like I have dead spot . Any suggestions on getting rid of th rabbits?
What grass seed do you recommend for zone 7 (NJ) and can I mix with existing grass? Unsure what current grass type I have. Anyway to tell which grass I have?
Do you want a longer grass blade or a shorter grass blade? Either way, I would HIGHLY recommend you doing a “cool season” type of grass that far north! I am in kansas and zone 6, (also transition zone) and the warm season grass is only green, if I’m lucky, 1/2 of the year! And that’s if spring comes early!
@@tretre1692 Is Bermuda a cool season grass? What would you recommend? (I think the current grass is Kentucky blue grass) which I would be mixing in. Also I want a grass that if I miss a few areas the grass will eventually go into and cover it , I think Bermuda style since it has a chain and eventually grows in the srounding areas
I do have a question that I cannot seem to find anywhere though! - Or perhaps I'm just not asking it right. Long story short, I purchased a new home with no lawn (just dirt). I planted Rye seed back in Octoberish and it has flourished. It looked great. It's now starting to dye off from the heat (I think), and I want to start the transition to Summer grass. Everyone keeps telling me that I have Bermuda underneath the Rye, but I've never planted Bermuda! Tell me that I'm not crazy. My main question is, how do I successfully transition to Bermuda or summer grass, correctly? Is it as simple as cutting off the water supply and letting the Rye die out and then mowing low to plant Bermuda seed? Or am I missing something? Any information or tips is appreciated. Thanks! - A lawn newbie out in Arizona.
Yo Doc! Have you ever considered trying out a lawn seed called ‘Micro Clover’? It’s a really small cultivar of clover and can be mixed in to lawns at 5-10% or be a lawn in of itself! It would be really epic to see you try it out! 🍀🍀🍀
Love the pop quiz at the end!! Makes me more confident in my knowledge!
The message I got out of this video is less is more 🤔👍👍
I've had my sunjoe for six years and it's still putting in work like I just got it.

Would love to see more fishing videos…
Do you have a video of how to connect a bilge pump to a Duracell battery?
