I first visited Yellowstone 70 (that is not a typo!) years ago. It is still about my favorite place on this ole planet Earth. I remember being able to feed the bears; and in fact, bleachers were set up behind the Old Faithful Inn and after dinner service the garbage was brought out for the bears. It was the evening's entertainment. This went on until sometime in the 60s. It has changed a lot in some ways, and in others not at all. Your efforts on all of your videos, itineraries, and guides is phenomenal! One thing to maybe add that those of us who live in the Mountain West take for granted but someone from the states east of the Rockies might need to know is that the entire park is at a high altitude. Acclimate the first day if you have flown in. Drink lots of water. Rest. Altitude sickness is not fun, and will certainly impact one's enjoyment and ability to see the sights. Happy travels and thanks again for your efforts to help folks love Yellowstone as we do!
Amazing! Thanks for sharing Cindy. You’re right about the high altitude. I have forgotten to mention that. Also I will do a video someday soon about the history of bear feeding in Yellowstone. I’m jealous you got to have that experience!!
@@WereintheRockies I just read an excellent kid friendly book about this history with my son. Is an “I Survived” book, I Survived The Attack of the Grizzlies, 1967, by Lauren Tarshis, about the practice of feeDing the bears and how that led to 2 deaths in Glacier National Park and led to the change in how garbage is contained and keeping campsites, picnic areas clean to not attract the bears or any animal. I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in the history. My son is 6, and was a little scared, but I was happy I read it with him. Love to learn more about the parks!

Awesome! Between SLC and Jackson, drive through Lava Hot Springs and Soda Springs (Soda has a geyser and Hooper Spring where the people on the Oregon Trail drank natural soda water). Or you can go through Logan Canyon to Bear Lake. Both are pretty drives.

Eat breakfast at irma’s on your way out of town.We have pulled the the trailer and camped on Cody.if someone goes to Cody make sure to go to the Cody museum- it’s an all day visit. Eat a hamburger in cook city and buy a tshirt- mine is almost warm out. Old faithful inn we stayed 2 nights. No need to break the bank!! Tours are super expensive and Yellowstone takes 3-4 days to see it. You can do this without a tour guide, I promise! I think you’ll find our guide makes it WAY more simple for you.
Just want to say you guys are awesome. We live in the Midwest and find this so helpful as we haven’t ventured out west too much. Thank you so much. God bless.
Just returned from Yellowstone National Park and Grand Tetons, it was a great trip. Your videos were quite helpful in planning my trip. Though I was there from end of July to first week of Aug, 2021, overall I did not face any major issues. As we are not morning people, somehow took a chance and left around 09 or 09.30 am and most of the park attractions visited between 10.30 am and 02:00 p.m, but we were able to find parking, in some places for example like Norris Geyser Basin, it is always crowded, I only had to wait in the parking lot for about 5 minutes or so even during peak hours. Instead of parking on the road side, I proceeded into the parking lot , just need to wait few minutes, you would get a spot, thought this might help others who are planning to visit the Parks during peak times, no need to be panic. Similarly enjoyed multiple visits to the Hayden Valley where we watched more wildlife close in close vicinity rather than Lamar Valley. Could not spot any bear mostly Bison. Everyone mentioned they could not spot bear even after miles of hiking in some of the longer interior trails, but luckily spotted a bear with two cubs after the boat ride in the Grand Tetons, that was the only time. One of the roads from Canyon Lodge to Lamar valley was closed so had to drive almost 90 miles. Instead I would recommend Hayden Valley much closer and much nicer and recommend Hayden Valley for those who are on tight schedule. Also we could find accommodation inside the Park, just booked two weeks before, unfortunately I got in different lodges inside the Yellowstone, but once I reached there, they were helpful and accommodated in two lodges rather than 4 lodges as it get's tough to check in and check out every day, I stayed 3 nights in Canyon Lodge and one night in Old faithful Inn. In Grand Teton I stayed in Coltor Bay Village Cabins. I was pretty impressed with Tetons as well. Just wanted to share my experience and thank the Rockies for their helpful videos. If anyone needs any latest information or questions, feel free to post, will try to answer. Only bad experience, there was a road trap as I followed google maps from Rapid City to Cody and that route at the Manderson, WY, there were no signs, that road suddenly drops speeding limit from 70 or 65 to 40s and 30s, passing through some small village towns (population less than 150) corps hide there and trap and I got a traffic ticket issued, I have been a careful driver, I never got a traffic ticket in years, but here they have been targeting out of state drivers, so beware of this those who are driving into Cody via RT 31 (don't follow the google shortest route, rather continue straight instead of taking a turn). I read several stories later found out that Manderson, WY has been notorious on this.
I'm planning a trip for June and have my campsite reserved in Grant Village. Thanks for all the information it will be helpful. I was 3 or 4 years old when my parents took the family for a vacation to Yellowstone. That was back in the days when the bears got handouts. As the story goes one bear decided to get up on the hood of the car. Well Dad got his closeup view with nature and an earful from Mom. We all survived even Dad and the bear, great memories to remember and share.
I am currently 78, and i was about age 5 when my folks first took me to Yellowstone. My next trip was 1972, on my Honda 450, just out of college.. Next was 1978 and with my wife of one year., my last was 2004 with two friends from the Philippines. I've got to get back at least one more time as I have my SENIOR Nat'l Park Pass and I haven't used it yet. I really enjoyed your Cody, Wy. video. Dennis, Janet's husband.
We are heading to Yellowstone at the end of September and this has me feeling much more prepared for the trip! I will be watching many other videos that you have posted. Thank you for posting these!!
We had rooms reserved for 4 nights at the Canyon Lodge & Cabins for mid June... And they sent an email 2 weeks ago saying they were staggering the room availability and said "too bad." It was paid and everything. Scrambled and couldn't find a room in ANY city outside of Yellowstone in ANY direction less than 3 hours from the park!!!😫. Found an Airbnb on a last minute cancellation in West Yellowstone last minute; THANK GOODNESS!
My husband and I are just in the beginning stages of planning a trip for next summer (July 2022) to see Grand Tetons Yellowstone Glacier and then the Badlands. I am so glad I found your RUclips channel and website. I’ve never planned a road trip this big before. I know the information that you have is going to be so helpful for us.
I stayed the entire week at PIONEER MOTEL @ west Yellowstone and was near everything! Nice bungalows to stay with a very nice owner....do look at this property...it’s worth it!
I was also there in May. Do you know if the road from Canyon to Tower is always closed? I am planning another trip next year because I had to skip some places.
We did the Roosevelt Cookout on one of our earlier trips. We had a lot of fun, the horse ride was great and the food not bad. Like you said, Yellowstone's not a foodie destination lol. It rained really hard during dinner, which was fine because it was covered, then cleared up nicely for the ride back. Have fun, I think you guys will like it.
@@beachmom19 It was dark out but dry and clear skies. The storm was one of those Rocky Mountain storms that rain really hard for about an hour and then clear right out. It was pretty cold out after too so bring layers if you go.
@@beachmom19 It's been about ten years but it was late summer when we went. Near labor day if I remember correctly. It may have been near dark, like dusk or twilight, but definitely not fully light out. Edit: My memory says it was pretty dark but that may have been because of the big storm and the clouds making it seem darker. Sorry if I was confusing.
This was very informative I wish I would have stumbled across it before hand thanks for all the info I visited in Sept I knew nothing about elevation sickness till I got to Yellowstone so something mabye to mention and we brought along a little toddler training toilet for my little for when we got stuck in those bison traffic jams.
Hello Hector! Thanks so much. I just posted our picture with you from Yellowstone on our Instagram. I'm still working through all my photos and videos. LOL.
@@WereintheRockies Matt and Cheryl, yeah we just saw. It was such a surprised to to actually meet you two and your beautiful family! It truly was a highlight of our trip. Thank!
I live in Ogden and will be visiting Yellowstone next year. This video is much appreciated. Thank you so much. It was informative as well as entertaining
We watched your videos and followed your recommendations before going to Zion and GC. It was very helpful! Thank you so much! Now we are going to Yellowstone in late May, so we will purchase your itinerary map and the voice tour. Thank you again.
On my visit arrived thru the east entrance, thought great. We were tired, looking forward to setting up camp... but the primitive camping was another 45 miles...
We are sitting here planning our daily itinerary for our Sept trip to the Tetons and Yellowstone. What an incredible help your videos and guides have been to us!! Thank you so much Matt & Cheryl! For anyone going to the parks, these two provide so much value to your trip planning. Definitely buy the guides!
We just visited Yellowstone. We followed your recommendations, and we also purchased your plan, and so happy we did it! The plan is very helpful and it was easier to adjust to our needs! And especially, we LOVED the audio! Very interesting! Highly recommended! Thank you guys for what you are doing!
Our family has the advantage of home schooling. First, we do not have to put up with the PC nonsense AND we go to the parks off season. We went first part of October and got to see everything easily. Firehole Canyon and Firehole Geysers were very dramatic and usually missed. Great video, we LOVED the parks.
It is unreal how much work you both have put into this. Me and my girlfriend are going and I cannot wait but the vastness of the park can be a bit overwhelming when it comes time to plan. This video helped more than y’all could know, thanks a bunch for the hard work and expertise!
Thanks so much for all the videos! Our family of 5 is traveling to Yellowstone and Teton in a week and you guys have helped us so much in our planning!
Thank you so much for this! I booked my first trip out there in October for 2 weeks!!!! I’m so excited! I plan on taking my time to visit everything with no rush!! I’m staying in west Yellowstone at a hotel. $65 a night!!! I tried to get other places but when I decided on them they were booked🤷🏻♀️. I understand it might be crazy weather but I know it could be nice too, totally willing to make the gamble! I’m so excited ❣️❣️❣️
My wife and I set out in our 24ft class c towing our car on April 6th. We left SW Florida and headed to southern California. We're currently working our way north in California and will hit most of the NPs in the West. We've been to Yellowstone twice before and are planning on going again, probably in September. Thanks for all your tips. Very helpful. We're planning on being in the road 6 months or more, Lord willing. We'll be primarily in the West. Really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work. 👍👫🙏
Another little town south of the Tetons is DuBois- say it just like it looks- we stay at the two pine inn and eat breakfast across the street. Ride the gondola in Jackson- the place is kind of expensive. They have a huge super market
Cheryl, Matt...Rick here. Two pages of notes as I plan out my trip for next fall. Thanks, and I've recommended you to kin of mine planning the Grand Canyon and Rocky Mountain National Park trips.
My family and I are road tripping from the Seattle area in a few weeks! Very excited, and thankful for this video. :) First visit for both my parents, and my husband and I!
Matt & Cheryl! Thank you both so much, we went last week and we followed your recommendations. We can’t thank you both enough for all the videos you made. We all work so hard and we also deserve to enjoy places like these.❤️🙏
You guys are great, just registered for the cookout--but, don't know if we got the reservations yet. We are going in August, and are from Michigan, so it is a big road trip for us. Staying 3 nights in West Yellowstone. Going to watch your Grand Teton Video next.
OMG, you guys have that very BEST travel videos! I'm so happy to have discovered your channel before we leave tonight to Grand Teton and Yellowstone NP! Thank you so very much!!
We just finished watching your whole video. We have been thinking of visiting Yellowstone for quite some time. Your video has sparked us to go immediately! So well done and thorough! We always look for videos before we go somewhere. (We watched a lot before going to Alaska.) we will definitely look at your itineraries and purchase. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with us!
Thank you for the great information! We used this video and the one for Grand Teton to plan our trip and it was so helpful! We had a great vacation and made the most of our limited time thanks to your tips!
We are enjoying Grand Teton National Park. We are here for 4 days. We are excited to go to Yellowstone and so glad that we purchased your guide. Thank you so much for providing all the important information. 2nd time watching this video. We are going to Cody for 7 days and 3 days at Gardiner Montana.👍😍
Thank you so much for your complete detail info. I really learned a lot from your video as we are a heading to Wyoming tomorrow. Once again thanks a lot for your great tips.
Loved the video. I’ve pieced almost all of this together through other videos of yours, but I just enjoy hearing you talk about it so much, I listened to it all.
very good video and outstanding tip and information, Is very helpful since me and the famil are doing our first Yellowstone starting in October first week, We also are hitting Grand Teton and Glacier during our 8 day. ONce again than you for the information and tips
Great video my wife and I are just a couple weeks out from our 2nd Trip to Yellowstone. We are also fellow Utahans. We are gonna be camping outside the park at Beaver Creek campground. But thanks you 2 are awesome
We camped there last year! Real nice place. Make sure to walk to the lake and see the dead trees sticking out. And then visit the quake lake visitor center nearby
In Gardiner, be sure to stop at the Tumbleweed Bookstore for a delicious cup of coffee and many breakfast items. Cute place and usually not too crowded. (I worked in Mammoth during the summers and would frequent this coffee shop; I have no affiliation with it). :-)
We are going to Yellowstone this weekend, but sadly only have one day! Gonna just drive along the west side of the loop then back out the west side. Probably only stop to see two or three (Mammoth, Prismatic and Old Faithful) big attractions and whatever wildlife we come across on the road. I hope we can do it in a day! I wish we had planned for more time, but we are road tripping to Zion, Grand Canyon and back up north via Redwood Ntnl Forest! Will definitely plan a longer dedicated trip in the future!
My wife and I have been enjoying your videos and are planning for a 7-8 day visit to Yellowstone and Tetons this summer. We are looking to purchase both itineraries and audio guides for both parks.
Perfect amount of time to visit those parks!! Thank you for watching and I would be honored to be your “guide” for the parks. I hope your trip is fantastic.
Watching this video again. Hooked on your videos. I learn so much. Your itineraries and audios of Yellowstone and GrandTeton will be invaluable when I do my trip the last 2 weeks of Sept. Starting off in Glacier NP and then on to Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Thanks for everything! 😻
Thank you for your videos! I have watched many of them and they prepared us so well to visit Yellowstone and the Tetons. It was our first time, we spent 5 days mid-May. I already want to return and actually teared up when we drove out of the park for the last time. So many wonderful memories with my family. My only regret was the Fairy Falls trail was closed due to bears so we were not able to get that elevated view of Grand Prismatic. You two are amazing, thanks again!!
Great Video! Very Informative. I also will be watching your Grant Teton Video. Matt...is Cheryl always so perky, smiling, and pleasant? I hope she reserves some of that for you at home, and does not just expend it all on these videos.
My favorite in Midway Geyser Basin, even if Grand Prismatic Spring is great, is actually Exelsior Geyser. Every time I walk by I to have fight an urge to jump in and take a swim 😁
Watched the entire video and it was definitely what I needed! So thorough and helped to plan our huge family vacation. We just got back from Yellowstone and it was awesome thanks to you!
Great video; planning a drive for 2022. A technicality; but since you are both educators here it goes. The first protected territory was Yosemite, not Yellowstone, in 1864 under the Yosemite Grant Act (president Lincoln signed it); since there was no mechanism for the federal government to protect it, in 1866 they turned to California and said "it's all yours, good luck". When the same happened 8 years later at Yellowstone, the federal government had no way out; Wyoming was not a state yet, no passing the buck!!! So Yellowstone becomes the first national park!!! (but not the first federally protected territory).
Very informative video! Thank you for you tips this video has helped us out planning our visit when we are there this month! New friends from Florida :)
I just subscribed. Enjoy watching videos about my favorite place to be, Yellowstone. As a child I watched my father feed the bears from the car window and some times standing out side the car with the bears. We also watched the bears dig thru the trash dumpsters to find food. I saw a bear running from a dumpster with an ice cream box stuck on its head. I'm showing my age. These were all black bears. As an adult I'm so glad they stopped that and made the bears find natural food. I like it as nature intended it to be. Will visit there this year for my first fall visit (Oct), all others have been spring/summer visits. Do you have a video about fall trips to Yellowstone? Keep up the informative work.

I am going to Yellowstone Park in June for the first time. Thanx for all tips. Is the road between Canyon Village and Roosvelt Junction closed this year? Is the road from the lake to North (Hayden Valley) is going to be opened on June 25? I cannot wait to go there. I am waiting for more videos about Yellowstone Park.
The road between Canyon and Roosevelt/Tower Junction will be closed all of 2021. Bicycles are allowed from Tower/Roosevelt as far as Calcite Springs. Tower Falls is closed. The road from Fishing Bridge to Canyon has been repaired and is open. Have fun!

We are heading to Yellowstone at the end of September and this has me feeling much more prepared for the trip! I will be watching many other videos that you have posted. Thank you for posting these!!
Wife and I are too...flying into Bozeman and then road tripping.
Going the week after you. Will be interested to find out about your experience
I love Long videos if the topic is a topic that I interested in such as history and US National Parks. Good Job.
Thanks for watching!
Oh that’s terrible! They cancelled our Old Faithful Inn reservation this year also
My husband and I are just in the beginning stages of planning a trip for next summer (July 2022) to see Grand Tetons Yellowstone Glacier and then the Badlands. I am so glad I found your RUclips channel and website. I’ve never planned a road trip this big before. I know the information that you have is going to be so helpful for us.
Awesome! You will LOVE it
When will you be be coming out with your guides/itineraries for Glacier and Badlands?
I stayed the entire week at PIONEER MOTEL @ west Yellowstone and was near everything! Nice bungalows to stay with a very nice owner....do look at this property...it’s worth it!
Thanks for the suggestion, we will look into it! :)
Just got back from Yellowstone and the Tetons. Absolutely stunning. Go in May, no crowds and lots of baby animals.
So great to hear!!
We arrive in May 29th! So excited!
I was also there in May. Do you know if the road from Canyon to Tower is always closed? I am planning another trip next year because I had to skip some places.
No. Just closed this year for construction
@Pao lo Mostly open, but some hotels and campsites are still closed. See this video for more ruclips.net/video/WGek5t5whRQ/видео.html
So it was still ight out when you rode back? We would like to go next year.
@@beachmom19 It was dark out but dry and clear skies. The storm was one of those Rocky Mountain storms that rain really hard for about an hour and then clear right out. It was pretty cold out after too so bring layers if you go.
@@patrickmaddy4611 So you rode horses back in the dark?
@@patrickmaddy4611 What time of year did you go?
@@beachmom19 It's been about ten years but it was late summer when we went. Near labor day if I remember correctly. It may have been near dark, like dusk or twilight, but definitely not fully light out. Edit: My memory says it was pretty dark but that may have been because of the big storm and the clouds making it seem darker. Sorry if I was confusing.
Subbed!
I'm going the first week in May for my birthday.
Have fun and Happy early birthday. 😊
@@WereintheRockies Thanks!
Great video and inspiring camera work and editing! Peace
How kind of you! Matt will be happy to know you appreciate his video and editing skills
Don’t forget the great Souix Monument, Crazy Horse. It’s worth seeing. About 1 - 1/2 hours from Mt. Rushmore.
Your info is the BEST for new visitors. Thank you
You’re welcome!
This was very informative I wish I would have stumbled across it before hand thanks for all the info I visited in Sept I knew nothing about elevation sickness till I got to Yellowstone so something mabye to mention and we brought along a little toddler training toilet for my little for when we got stuck in those bison traffic jams.
This video helped us much and it was great meeting you and your Family up near Tower.
You’re welcome!
My parents have a cabin in cooke city and I saw my first wolf pack with pups in the area it was the old druids pack I miss that pack
Dude u guys r awesome 🙏 so reassuring to see that folks like u guys exist
Thank you 😊
We watched your videos and followed your recommendations before going to Zion and GC. It was very helpful! Thank you so much! Now we are going to Yellowstone in late May, so we will purchase your itinerary map and the voice tour. Thank you again.
Wow, you’re so welcome! Those are some amazing trips you’re going on. Honored to help you have a good time. Thanks 🙏
😁😁
On my visit arrived thru the east entrance, thought great. We were tired, looking forward to setting up camp... but the primitive camping was another 45 miles...
LOL. East entrance is a LONG ways.
Thank you so much for the support!
Ahhh, you’re so nice! I am sooo happy to hear that you enjoyed it. THANK YOU
Our family has the advantage of home schooling.
Our pleasure!
How’s it going. Have you returned from you’re trip and if so how’s it go, if you don’t mind sharing. We’re going this coming weekend.
I visited the park in June of 2021. It was an unbelievable trip. This video was very helpful prior to going to the park. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome!!!! You’re going to love it
We are planning the trip end of August. This is by far among the best videos I have seen. Excellent work. My compliments.
Thank you so much !
Unreal!! What an incredible time you must be having. So happy for you. Thanks for all your kind comments
Thanks so much Rick!! So happy to hear you’re visiting Yellowstone. We are visiting Grand Canyon and Bryce right now. :)
My family and I are road tripping from the Seattle area in a few weeks! Very excited, and thankful for this video. :) First visit for both my parents, and my husband and I!
Loved the video! Very informative!

You guys are the best!! Thank you for the generosity of your time and information. We can't wait to go!! T minus 2 months!!
Matt & Cheryl! Thank you both so much, we went last week and we followed your recommendations. We can’t thank you both enough for all the videos you made. We all work so hard and we also deserve to enjoy places like these.❤️🙏

I am taking my children in the next few weeks. Great road trip for us as its 2200 miles away!
Good luck and have lots of fun!
Yay! So happy you made an updated guide! We are going this August! Your tips have helped us out alot! Thank you!
Thank you!
You guys are great, just registered for the cookout--but, don't know if we got the reservations yet. We are going in August, and are from Michigan, so it is a big road trip for us. Staying 3 nights in West Yellowstone. Going to watch your Grand Teton Video next.
Awesome. You are going to love it!!
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!!
Another great video! I probably watched 5 of them so far.
Thank you for the great information! We used this video and the one for Grand Teton to plan our trip and it was so helpful! We had a great vacation and made the most of our limited time thanks to your tips!

@@WereintheRockies definitely doin both hoping to find some sites or similar in the area even if it's an hour drive. Know of any spots worth visiting?
lots in west Yellowstone that we like. ruclips.net/video/nczBF49Vv44/видео.html.
Also ennis, Virginia city and Nevada City
@@WereintheRockies love West Yellowstone
Thank YOU!!! We will be there in July...2nd trip, staying a week in Gardiner
Hope you enjoy it!
Wow, what a huge road trip!
We will be traveling to Yellowstone in August. Loved watching your videos!❤️❤️❤️
Thanks!
Very informative and to the point. Thanks! Looking forward to our first visit this July/August.
You guys are awesome!! Thank you for putting this together!
Thanks Janice!!!
Thanks Beth!
Great Video! Very Informative. I also will be watching your Grant Teton Video.
Matt...is Cheryl always so perky, smiling, and pleasant? I hope she reserves some of that for you at home, and does not just expend it all on these videos.
Hahaha! She's ALWAYS smiling!
Thanks for watching Richard!
My favorite in Midway Geyser Basin, even if Grand Prismatic Spring is great, is actually Exelsior Geyser. Every time I walk by I to have fight an urge to jump in and take a swim 😁
Yes, Excelsior Geyser Crater is very interesting. It used to erupt in the 1800s!
Thank you so much for this video! So helpful!! My family and I are going on a road trip soon to the Tetons, Yellowstone, and Glacier.
You’re welcome!
Watched the entire video and it was definitely what I needed! So thorough and helped to plan our huge family vacation. We just got back from Yellowstone and it was awesome thanks to you!
Thank you!!
Haha. Yes, I actually discuss the whole thing in my audio guide!
Thank You for sharing this information 🙏🏼
You’re welcome!
Thanks for all the info! We will be taking our road trip out west, from Southern Illinois, in 3 weeks and can't wait!
Your videos are very informative.
Thank you!
We are planning on traveling to Glacier, do you have a video on that?
Hi and another awesome video and I hope to go here one day when I graduate high school in 2022 with my friends for a roadtrip.
Very informative video! Thank you for you tips this video has helped us out planning our visit when we are there this month! New friends from Florida :)
We have a a class B sprinter would love to book for next year or so ..
Thanks so much!!! I did a video about the different seasons at Yellowstone. ruclips.net/video/WGek5t5whRQ/видео.html. We also have a few Yellowstone playlists. ruclips.net/p/PLbhuXgSSAbWbD9UQz5RWWQ2L-Yc3MlQB- and ruclips.net/p/PLbhuXgSSAbWYT9tkbzAGD84SNSb5YPjl-
I am going to Yellowstone Park in June for the first time.
Have fun!
Great video, thanks for the tips, I’m heading there in one week for the first time
