You're right! This melody is completely hooked into my brain now. Marc Bolan seems to have been so woven into so many bands and so much music in his short life. Great demonstration, even for us non-players, so interesting!

My brother was six years older than me so I was surrounded by music I wouldn't have found on my own at that age. I adored Marc Bolan. He was my first major crush. Many of one's first musical interests don't stand the test of time, but Bolan still gives me a little thrill. Thank you Fil, you keep reminding me of so much joy I have forgotten.

I think Bill Legend was an under-rated drummer. If you listen to "Cosmic Dancer" on the Electric Warrior album, he plays some brilliants fills towards the end of the track, always trying to do something different each time to give more variety to the drumming.

20th Century Boy certainly rockin' the 20th century boa! Saw Marc/T.Rex at Houston's Music Hall in October '72.....probably the loudest concert I've ever attended! And, I've seen literally hundreds of concerts in my lifetime, including early '70s Led Zep, Deep Purple, and The Who, not to mention The Ramones, Sex Pistols, and others you'd think might out-power Marc's Les Paul.........nope!

Marc Bolan was hot. We were all waiting to see what he was going to do next. His popularity was on the upswing. He was given the Rolling Stones a run for their money. I also think the party till you puke lifestyle was catching up to him. Keith and Mick kept each other alive.
I think that's one of the major contributing factors to the longevity of The Rolling Stones. Brian Jones gave them a heads up. Stay alive. Marc started getting a puffy face-evidence that your livers talking back. Marc was choking on his lifestyle. We lost a lot of really great artists at a very young age. Tommy Bolin and Marc Bolan rocked. December 4th 1976, September 18th 1977- both these guys were trendsetters and should have had long and productive careers. No horsing around.

Great point about how a simple melody or riff is the one that stays with you!
Since I haven't started learning my guitar quite yet due to the holidays and still playing round with holding it, picking, strumming, finger placement for cords, etc., but did think about asking for Nick Lowe's Cruel To Be Kind (again :p) to be analyzed one of these days in the other video I watched, I'm wondering if it's a simple riff?
My ears say the riff notes are: F/G/Em/Am and variations of that throughout the song for the most part with a Dm7 and some Cs. It seems an incredibly simple tune but so catchy! I need to look it up I suppose. Maybe I'll try to learn it soon. I should go watch how he plays it. Seems very straightforward if I remember right. Off on a tangent again. 🙃

If I'm not mistaken, Marc himself produced this single, and there is a continuation of this performance that includes 'Buick McKane' (where he tries to act the guitar hero). Never the polished musician, it's been easy for some to reimagine Bolan - minus the accident - as some precedent to the 1980s Glam Metal scene. But given his penchant for soul and funk, it's just as probable he'd have disappeared down a Prince route. Ultimately, we all know he'd be on the revival circuit today - but with the benefit of dying young we can still imagine...

I've been suggesting Hot Tuna to Fil since he did his Starship vid.

I'm mad about Jorma Kaukonen, maybe Fil will watch this link. When you request in the future, include a link to a favorite performance If you haven't already). It makes it much easier of him. Rock!

@Lynn Dow Great idea. Here’s my suggestion. It’s black and white and long and the first 20 seconds are not visible. But, it’s epic. ruclips.net/video/r_EvU734GRM/видео.html

The 60s, 50s, 40s, etc all felt the same way about their music. It's a generational thing to prefer the music you knew when YOU were young and ruclips.net/video/owS-Cfo3QZo/видео.html&feature=emb_logo

I've noticed a few times TRex used guitar backing tracks too. Perhaps a bit dangerous to do guitar analysis visually from a performance.

The tuning could be the video speed. I see this a lot on older recordings. Good video, Fil

There is great band footage from the 60s and then in the 70s they tried to make bands look glitzy and sound like the record. So much slick production equals not so much live footage. Love T Rex!

There was a female band called Girls School who recorded a rockin version of this song in the 80s on an album called Play Dirty. Funny how so many bands cover T-Rex tunes!🎸✌🏻

In my opinion, he wasn't that great a singer, but he was certainly a great performer. and it was a great song(per se) And I wonder if other performers, since him ,have copied his style on stage. Actually, if I heard that song on the radio, maybe I wouldn't think it was up to par to the songs then. Well, the music then, was just so great and so many great bands and performers and you did claim it was over dub,and maybe that ruined it. Keep up with the great work on your channel, it's always interesting!
