Saw them live at Streatham Ice Rink just before this hit the charts magic. So nice to hear his musicianship given credit instead of picking apart his life. He was a wonderful poet as well.

Excellent analysis of this song by an underrated guitar player. Saw him play the Liverpool Stadium in November 1971. This song I'm pretty sure was a hit around September 1970. Electric Warrior is a fantastic album but my favourite is A Beard of Stars.

I loved his voice. He used the technique you talk about to sound a little unearthly, a bit weird. It matched the mysticism in his lyrics. It's hard to pick a favourite TRex song but Ride a White Swan is probably it. Nice analysis and interesting (and unusual) to see someone focus on Marc Bolan's guitar playing. There's a lovely RUclips clip of him hosting David Bowie on his TV programme. They play a song together and Bolan falls off the stage. Without missing a beat he gets back up, grinning. Nice moment.

I use lead and rhythm mixed using an F open shape in Ab and the pinky doing the fancy work. Its got a touch of the Bad Moon Risings in there too. T.Rex did 4 albums as Tyrannosaurus Rex Before the Bolan Boogie and T.Rex album in 1970 just before Electric Warrior though I may be wrong Boogie might have come a wee bit later (months) I will say in a T.Rex manner TANX for that Phil and keep rockin!!!

This was the first T.Rex hit and appearance on TOTP. It was that there that Marc first wore glitter on his cheeks and right there you have the seed of the Glam Rock phenomenon. So many bandwagon jumpers: Sweet, Gary Glitter, Alvin Stardust, Slade, Yes. Yes, all those platform boot-wearing long haired rockers owe their dues to Marc Bolan and in turn to Jimi Hendrix, who influenced fan Marc so much. Wah-wah pedal, visual image, lead electric guitar, onstage preening and posing - all thanks to Jimi's influence. Check out his ode to Voodoo Child (Slight Return) on T.Rex's Beard Of Stars LP, Elemental Child. Of course, there's no competition but Marc did have two weeks of guitar lessons from Eric Clapton (another great fan (and friend) of Jimi, by the way) just prior to recording that album, funnily enough.
