Thank you to everyone for the overwhelming support and kind comments, you've been super helpful for me to learn more about EXO! Just to let any new subscribers know, especially if you subscribed just because of this EXO reaction: I am predominantly a BL reaction channel, reacting to Thai, Korean, and Japanese BL dramas (occasionally non-BL series too). My recent dive into k-pop in the last few weeks started from a birthday project where I wanted to have some fun exploring k-pop (since until that point I only knew BTS and Stray Kids). It is likely that I will react to EXO again in the future, but not right away - I have other groups to check out and my channel's main focus is the BL dramas. I will understand if this changes anyone's decision to subscribe to me.

I'm sorry ;-; I am terribly uneducated in kpop and only recently got introduced to a specific few groups (BTS and Stray Kids) through friends. All other groups I've only started looking into in the last two weeks or so, meaning I'm completely clueless lol. Thank you, everyone has been amazingly kind and recommended more EXO music so I will continue to check them out!

Trust me , EXO is like one of the groups who are idols of other idols. Stary Kidz, NCT, Treasure, Seventeen,Enhypen, SF9, Astro,Ateez, TXT, Le ssarafim, Soloist Somi,Soloist Kan Daniel , Golden Child(It would be funny if I started name all the hard core EXO fan idols' name, like 2nd half of 3rd gen and literally whole 4th gen idolize EXO religiously)One example of that is Kai's rover Challenge (yes the crop top guy) idols had to stand in queue to do the challenge, and it continued for whole promotion and fun part is most idols didn't had any schedule, they particularly came to do the challenge,as these challenges are more like give n take, but for Kai , it was different.
About EXO's vocal, EXO is literally called the Vocal Kings of K-pop, they have 3 main vocalist and they are not some ordinary main vocalist, all three ranked as top 3 vocalists of all time(sometimes the ranking goback and forth but they never leave top 5)Their lead vocals are consider better than many main vocalist of K-pop, the man's voice you liked (green room man) is the main dancer Lay, he is a sub vocal but can be your go to main vocal any time.
yes, It's okay to not feel all the songs, because EXO do many genre(you have heard few and can tell they try everything)but their base is RnB and I think it's not your thing, they also produce one of the best and iconic Ballads in the industry. But I hope you won't stop there because I think they have few more songs that you may like, Love me right, Call me Baby and Overdose. Trust me , you will miss much about K-pop because EXO is one of the 3rd gen group who shaped todays K-pop and it's sounds, many EXO's songs and concepts are taken as inspiration.
Btw , EXO aren't just K-pop idols, they all the actors(quite successful actors)They are all visual members , in their time it was rare to have all visual members, they also are soloist yes all of them(except 2 members but they are working on their albums too) and the most successful soloist in Korea right now, Baekhyun(the pink fur) and Kai ,and Lay is the most successful artist in China for like 5 years in a row.

EXO's "Cream Soda" MV has 7 of their 9 members in the MV because Kai (The one in the red suit in "Love Shot", who is the main dancer) had just enlisted in the military, so he was unable to participate in the MV shoot, but if you listen to the album, you will hear his voice in the original song. And Lay, EXO's Chinese member, is very busy in China running his own companies and staring in multiple projects as a solo artist, etc., so he did not participate in this album.
EXO are known for having some of the very best vocalists in the Kpop industry and they are considered "vocal kings," so there are multiple members hitting that high note at that moment, you are right. You should watch their Killing Voice performance, as well as their behind-the-scenes footage of them recording "Cream Soda" in the recording studio and their behind-the-scenes dance practice video in order to really see how amazing EXO are.

They are 9 members and debuted in 2012
They are considered Vocal and RnB kings of kpop bc they have some of the best vocalists and dancers in the industry
Their music is mostly RnB influenced but they do other genres too
Generally more mature music compared to other groups
They are known for their sexy/smooth bad boy vibes
Considered to have one of the best discographies in kpop (if not the best)

EXO's "Monster" was released in 2016, so there are 9 members in this MV. Like everything EXO does, the story in the MV is another chapter in EXO's storyline and it explains a little more of what EXO is doing here on Earth.
As the English lines in "Monster" say ... They're "Creeping, Creeping Creeping .... Creeping in your heart babe" "You can call me Monster (because) I'm creeping in your heart babe." "She got me goin' crazy." The song's called "Monster," so the words are about acting like a monster: "Don't be afraid, love is the way ... I'm sorry, you make me sooo craaaazzzy, you know you dooooo."
Therefore, the floating watch and the car that is on fire in reverse, etc., I think -- on top of being a metaphor in the story -- also was supposed to be the members using their superpowers. And the snake, like a monster, mirrors the beat of the song, which kind of slithers like a snake as a metaphor for the way the guy slithers in and out of the relationship stealing warmth and affection from the girl, but in the end, leaving her cold and alone like a cold-blooded snake, etc. The snake is also red, which means that it most likely represents something to do with the Red Force.

However, if you look up the English translation of the lyrics, you will see in the song, the members are talking about a girl and they are telling the girl that "You can call me Monster" because I know I am bad for you and I will ruin you. I know that when we are over that I will have destroyed everything that is good about you, but I don't care because I want you so much that it doesn't matter to me. Which could be a metaphor for EXO's connection to the heart of the Tree of Life.
The woman in EXO's songs is often thought to be a metaphor and physical representation of the Tree of Life. That is why the members are always trying to save the girl or protect her, or they talk about being controlled by the power of the woman or they are worried about their passion destroying her, etc. It's EXO's job to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force. EXO was sent to Earth on a mission to find the two halves of the tree and reunite them in order to restore peace in the world. The two halves of the tree -- EXO-K (Korean) represents one half and EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) represents the other half -- were originally separated in order to keep the Red Force from gaining control. However, now, in order to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, EXO needs to defeat the Red Force and find where the two halves of the tree have been hidden.
Therefore, the story in the "Monster" is all about EXO's origin story and about how they are trying to stop the Red Force from corrupting humanity, while also trying to find clues to where the Tree of Life is located.
Also, the majority of the choreography for "Monster" has to do with the members using their powers, so when/if you watch the dance practice and/or a live performance, if you know what you are looking for, you will see that each move is done for a very specific reason. The X they make to represent EXO is only the beginning of the story in their choreography.
For example, D.O. has the power of super strength, so during his part in the song and choreography you will see that he waves his hands and the other members are pushed away from him or pulled toward him. When you see Suho in the middle of the group and they have a hold of his arms, he rotates his body around like swirling water because Suho has the power to control water. Xiumin has the power to control snow/ice/frost, so during one part of the choreography you will see that each of the members pause as if frozen as he moves in front of them. You see Kai slide backward and forward into the center of the group while waving his arms to represent him teleporting. And when Chanyeol jumps over Lay, Sehun and Xiumin, this could be him using his phoenix fire wings to fly, or it could be showing him leaping over flames because his power is the ability to control fire. Sehun has the power to control wind, so during his parts, you will see the other members shuffle around him as if they are creating a windstorm. And when they sit on the ground with their one knee in the air and rotate their bodies, it's supposed to represent a sundial -- EXO gets their power from the eclipse and their powers are affected by planetary and solar phenomenon, so the sundial is meant to represent the passing of time and their connection to the sun. (Even some of EXO's comebacks were released on days when we had a real eclipse or other planetary phenomenon, etc.)
You should also make note that "Lotto" is a prequel to "Monster," so when you watch their "Lotto" MV, just keep in mind that what you saw happen in "Monster" is what is going to take place after or in conjunction with the events in "Lotto".
How "Monster" and "Lotto" tie into EXOs larger storyline is a little open ended, but because "Lotto" is thought to be the prequel to "Monster," I think the story starts out in "Lotto" where the members have somehow infiltrated this big gambling ring and are undercover as they work to uncover a clue or something they need in order to accomplish their tasks here on Earth. I think the underground gambling establishment is run by a gang of bad guys who are probably members of the Red Force.
"Lotto" is where we are introduced to a girl who is being held captive. And ultimately, I think what EXO are trying to do is rescue the girl from the Red Force, but they are trying to do it without blowing their cover or being found out. So, that's why you see in "Lotto," and continued in "Monster," the members are fighting against the police because the police have come in to take down the gambling ring and rescue the girl, which is also what EXO are trying to do. However, the members of EXO don't want to be discovered, so they play along as if they are part of the bad guys. EXO are supposed to be going about their tasks here on Earth incognito, and humanity is never supposed to find out about EXO, so they are trying to keep a low profile.
As we see in the end of "Monster," Baekhyun disguises himself as one of the police and helps the other members escape from the back of the police van before they are taken to jail and/or captured by the Red Force, etc. (However, if you look closely, the members who are in the back of the police van are dressed in red, so they may be X-EXO -- EXO's alter ego clones -- and not EXO like we originally thought. Although I'm not sure whether at this point Baekhyun realizes these aren't the EXO members. Or maybe Baekhyun is also a member of X-EXO. Just another giant mystery we have yet to solve.)
You also see Lay, EXO's Chinese member, crouched in the middle of what looks like a pile of people -- I'm not sure whether these are the FBI agents, or if these are members of the Red Force -- and I think he is checking to make sure they are OK and possibly trying to use his power of healing to fix things and heal the injured.
Because some theories believe that EXO are traveling between time periods and dimensions, I think in "Monster" they also might be showing how some of the members are arriving on scene at different moments in the timeline of events that are taking place in the MV -- the members don't necessarily arrive at the location together -- as explained in their Pathcode teaser videos leading up to their "Call Me Baby" comeback. For instance, in "Monster" you also see Kai standing on or near a giant pile of people as well, and he seems to be standing over them. Some have pointed to this as possibly showing evil X-EXO Kai, who has done something bad, but I think this may be showing good EXO Kai, who has just shown up at that moment, observing what has taken place. Because Kai has the power of teleportation, he is the one that is in charge of bringing the members together and traveling between time and space, so I think he has shown up from a different time or place and is now trying to figure out what has happened, etc.
As you just saw, in EXO's "Obsession" MV the members in the bright colored clothing with the crazy makeup and hair are supposed to be X-EXO -- EXO's alter ego clones who have been created by the Red Force -- and the ones in the black or dark colored clothing are supposed to be EXO -- the good guys. So, in the parts where they are dressed in all black in "Monster" I think this is showing EXO, and where you see them in the clothing with red accents, this might by showing X-EXO. At the time when "Monster" was first released, we had no idea about X-EXO's existence, but since "Obsession" -- which is one of EXO's more recent releases -- we have started to go back and reanalyze some of their older MVs, and it appears that what we thought was always EXO, may have been in fact X-EXO some of the time.
As you can see, EXO's story is always evolving and changing, and just when you think you have one part understood, SM introduces a new piece of the story and changes the direction of the narrative.
Also, in EXO's MVs when you see red light or red objects this is thought to be where the Red Force has control, and when you see blue light or blue objects this is thought to be where EXO has the upper hand. However, if you see purple or red and blue in the same scene this is when EXO and the Red Force are battling for control -- red and blue mixed together make purple.
Unfortunately, as you can see, what makes EXO's storyline even more difficult to follow is the fact that nothing is ever in chronological order. So, you really have to pay close attention to every detail, to even begin to make connections.

An easy way to understand the number of group members changing if you check out more mvs are EXO started out as 12 but 3 members who were from China left a few years later in 2014/2015 so now there are 8 active members and 1 non active member named Lay who is the last chinese member and he has a successful solo career. So any mv with more than 9 members are the mvs before the 3 members left, any mv with 9 are before Lay became inactive and any mv with 8 members are the current active members to this day. Any mv with members below 8 is due to military service. Hope that made sense lol

  • @milindawilson9175
    @milindawilson9175 Год назад +15

What you saw in the "Obsession" MV was that EXO's doppelgangers were actually their alter ego clones and they were using their superpowers, such as Chanyeol with his fire power, Sehun uses his wind power to deflect the arrows, Baekhyun uses his power of light as a saber in the fencing battle, and Suho (the one with red hair) controls water in the room with all the pictures of water, etc. to fight their other selves. You see the planet on fire in the end of the MV because it's supposed to show how the world is coming to an end as EXO (the good guys in all black) and X-EXO (the evil ones in the colorful outfits with crazy hair and makeup) battle for control, etc. (Each of the members is playing 2 different characters.)
X-EXO has been created by the evil Red Force and EXO and X-EXO are fighting each other. EXO are trying to prevent X-EXO from taking over and corrupting humanity and X-EXO are trying to stop EXO from finding the Tree of Life and putting the two halves back together and restoring peace, etc.
To truly understand EXO, you need to be aware that EXO debuted in 2012. "Mama" is EXO's debut song and MV and it is how EXO was introduced to the world and it explains the group's concept -- and since then, everything SM does branches off from that storyline. From day one, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet Exo and they came to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. Each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one, if not all of them, using their powers.
Now you also need to know that in the beginning there was 12 members and they were split up into 2 groups EXO-K and EXO-M. EXO-K sang and performed their songs in Korean and EXO-M sang and performed those same songs in Mandarin Chinese. EXO-K had 6 Korean members and EXO-M had 4 Chinese members and 2 Korean members. So, to really understand their full origin story, you have to watch both the K and the M version of "Mama", because the EXO-K version focuses on the K members and their powers and the EXO-M version focuses on the M members and their powers.
However, since then, 3 of the 4 Chinese members have left the group -- short answer to focus on their solo work back in China -- but there is still one Chinese member left, Lay. (Any performances or MVs you watch that took place prior to May 2014 you will see all 12 members.) However, now -- because they no longer have enough Chinese members -- they no longer do separate promotions, but they still produce almost all of their MVs and main songs in both Korean and Mandarin, they just now promote all as one group EXO with 9 members. However, in the "Obsession" MV there are only 6 members -- Suho, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, Kai and Sehun -- because 2 of the members -- D.O. and Xiumin -- are on hiatus during this comeback as they serve in the military; and due to the political issues between the Korean and Chinese government, Lay -- their Chinese member -- was unable to participate in activities with the group.
So, each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us. However, the introduction of "Obsession's" part of the story really threw all of our theories for a loop, and it has made us question everything we previously have ever thought was happening in EXO's storyline.
The MV starts out with the red and blue light because it's supposed to represent how EXO are currently battling with X-EXO and the Red Force for control. In EXO's MVs when you see red light or anything that is red, this represents the Red Force, and when you see blue light or anything that is blue, this is thought to represent EXO. Therefore, when you see red and blue in one scene or purple -- red and blue mixed together make purple -- this is showing how the line between the two sides is being blurred and they are fighting each other, etc.
Since "Obsession," some think maybe EXO has been trapped somewhere from the very beginning and it has been X-EXO that we have been following all along. But I think it's still even more complex than that. I think at times we have been watching EXO, and at times we have been watching X-EXO -- with the release of "Obsession" we have only just discovered that the story hasn't necessarily been showing EXO the whole time.
With the new information provided to us through "Obsession," it also makes me question how Lay fits within the X-EXO/EXO storyline. Maybe he is one of the members who has been able to break free or avoid the Red Forces' control. In Lay's solo MV for "Sheep," the Allen Walker relift version, we see everything burning outside as if an apocalypse is happening. Maybe "Sheep" is showing us the planet burning from Lay's viewpoint, like we see the world burning at the end of the "Obsession" MV.
Also, I believe that the storyline in "Obsession" is connected to SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV storyline. If you pay attention to what Baekhyun and Kai were wearing in "Obsession," those outfits are very similar to the black outfits that Baekhyun and Kai are wearing in the "Jopping" MV. Kai is even wearing the same backpack parachute in both MVs. Which seems to be SM Entertainment's way of making sure we see the connection between those MVs.
Therefore, it is thought that, as part of SuperM's storyline, Baekhyun and Kai have gathered the best of the best of SM's groups -- Taemin from SHINee, Taeyong and Mark from NCT, Ten from WayV and Lucas who is a former member of WayV -- to help them battle the Red Force, and maybe, eventually, take down X-EXO. Just like the Marvel Avengers come together as individual superheroes with their own storylines to create the Avengers and to fight evil, it is thought that SuperM is coming together to create the ultimate supergroup to help EXO fight the evil and corruption inflicted on humanity by the Red Force.
Unfortunately, to make it even more difficult to understand, each part of the story is not necessarily in chronological order, so we as EXO-L (EXO fans) have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of all of their teasers, MVs, song lyrics, albums, concert VCRs, choreography and even live performances and piece it all together to understand the story behind it all. And not only are EXO's and SuperM's MVs and storylines connected, but pretty much all of SM's groups have storylines and concepts that connect together, which is designed to become part of one giant graphic novel or movie in the SM Culture Universe.
To help you pinpoint the powers being used in EXO's MVs and live performances, here is a list of the members and what their special power is.
    EXO-K
💦 Suho (Kim JunMyeon) is the leader of the group and he is a lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control water (Fun fact: Suho in Korean means guardian, as in the guardian of EXO. That's why as the leader of EXO, his stage name is Suho.)
💡Baekhyun is a main vocalist and his superpower is the ability to control light
🔥Chanyeol is the main rapper and lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control fire and his spirit animal is the phoenix.
🌏D.O. (Do KyungSoo) is a main vocalist and his power is the ability to control earth (dirt), which gives him super strength/force
☄Kai (Kim JongIn) is a main dancer, lead vocalist and sub-rapper and his power is teleportation (Kai means opening, as in a door or gateway, so his stage name is meant to symbolize his role in the group.)
🌪Sehun is the youngest member of the group and he is a lead rapper, lead dancer and a vocalist -- his power is the ability to control wind
    EXO-M
❄Xiumin (Kim MinSeok) is the oldest member of the group and he is a lead vocalist and lead rapper and his power is the ability to control snow/ice (frost)
🦄 Lay (Zhang Yixing) is the Chinese member of the group, he is a main dancer, lead vocalist and rapper -- his power is the ability to heal anything.
🌩 Chen (Kim JongDae) is a main vocalist and his power is the ability to control thunder/lightning/electricity
(As you can see, Xiumin and Chen were given stage names that sounded more Chinese so they would fit in better in EXO-M because they are the Korean members of the Chinese group.)
The Chinese members who are no longer part of the group, but are still an important part of EXO's storyline:
🐉 Kris was the leader of EXO-M he was a main rapper and vocalist -- his power was the ability to fly and his spirit animal was a dragon (Kris left the group in April 2014.)
💭 Luhan was a main vocalist and his power was telekinesis (The ability to control things with his mind) (Luhan left the group in October 2014.)
⏰Tao (Z.Tao) was a lead rapper and vocalist and the martial artist of the group, so he did the flips and stunts in the group's routines. His power was the ability to control time (Tao ended activities with EXO in August 2015.)

EXO is a 9 member boy group. They r one of the famous kpop groups out there that also had a huge impact on todays kpop. They were used to being 12 and they were divided into 2 groups of 6 members (exo-k (korean)and exo-m(mandarin)). In exo-k they had 6 korean members in exo -m 4 chinese members and 2 korean. They debuted in april 8th 2012. 3 chinese members left the group in 2014/2015. After that they were called just EXO with complete 9 members. U can see different amount of members in the group in different times bc some were in millitary and bc of the conflict between china and korea and some restrictions the only chinese member of the group(the guy whos voice u liked in the green room) wasn't able to participate with them in comebacks starting from 2017(although he was kinda visually featured in tempo(2018) and participated in the mv from 2021(through cg bc of covid restrictions at that time he wasnt able to fully join them). But he is a HUGE solo artist in China. Almost every member of exo had done solo music by this point and have some solo albums of their own.
And yess the one who caught ur attention is Kai the 2nd youngest of the group who is now enlisted and only the maknae of the group is left to be enlisted(the guy who wore the soft sweater in the love shot dbfhd).
EXO does have 3 main vocalists in the group but they all r singers since they do also lots of harmonizations in their songs. Some of them also did musicles. And each of their comebacks can give different vibes, concepts and genres although they always have their sound and r&b mixed into it most of the times. The quality that they give when it comes to the visuals, energy, charisma, the vocals and the songg is actually insane.

Actually EXO have a concept that they are from EXO planet(EXO means outer) a planet out of our solar system(first group to have a storyline ever) Each member has his own superpower and they are chased by the Red Force (brief explanation)
EVEYTHING EXO do is related to their concept(not only MVs which ofc are connected) ,there are many theory videos on yt about it,it’s very interesting and super detailed
Ex. In Obsession is shows the fight between EXO and X-EXO(bad alter egos the Red force made) in the end it shows that the planet cought fire that means that their bad side won

EXO is said as a word as in exoplanet (part of their extensive concept story) but you will also hear it chanted as E. X. O. initials. They are called the Vocal Kings of Kpop, but they call themselves a performance group because they are so strong on all levels. Their live performances are insane.
Mr Red suit and crop tops (which he wears for the comfort and ease of dancing, you won't see him in them off stage) is the Idol of Idols as consecutively voted by his peers, he is Kai, EXO's Main dancer (agreed to be one of the best dancers in then business, many including myself would say THE best), their Centre (and he's been called the best Centre because of his performance skills and his work ethic), a vocalist who is also a successful soloist and a rapper and a very successful model, called by Gucci the Human Gucci - the complete package. You also noticed the Genius Idol Baekhyun - pink fluffy jacket, lip ring - called the genius because he is so popular adn successful. In fact all the members are complete packages which makes the group on another level to most out there.
EXO debuted in the 2nd generation, but their level of performance and international appeal marked the start of the 3rd Generation which they defined and dominated. You haven't heard of them as they have focused on Asia and have not been pushed in the west. EXO has a massive discography with a huge range of genres, another thing they are famous for is their ability to take on any genre, which also means there is something for everyone. Every song is different, so don't think of what you hear as representative of a time. They really are worth exploring more fully.
As you like up beat, try Love Me Right and Power

As with most of EXO's songs and MVs -- such as "Love Shot" -- the song and the story in the MV are two separate things. There are two messages that the story tells in the MV. Yes, the story in the MV is loosely based on the lyrics of the song, but the main point of the MV is mostly to tell another part of EXO's story.
There are 8 members in "Love Shot." Lay, their Chinese member, was not able to participate in this MV.
Part of EXO's mission is that they are constantly fighting against and battling the Red Force for control. The Red Force is thought to be here on Earth inflicting their evil agenda and corrupting humanity and causing all the bad things that are happening in the world such as war, hate and destruction of the environment, etc. While on their quest to locate and protect the Tree of Life, EXO is also tasked with trying to fix everything the Red Force has caused. And because EXO is trying to undo and prevent the Red Force from accomplishing their goals, the Red Force is also trying to take down EXO by capturing them, corrupting them and standing in their way, etc.
So, each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story.
In "Love Shot" I'm not sure why EXO first ended up at the gas/service station or the cinema/movie theater, but the story in this MV is all about how the Red Force is trying to corrupt and control them. For example, supposedly, most fans agree that Xiumin may have been captured by the Red Force -- or maybe it's his X-EXO clone. If you notice, Xiumin is squaring off with a group of guys with guns, but a few seconds later we see someone with a mask and when the mask is removed you see that it's Xiumin, which seems to show that he may not be who we think he is.
And when Chen is sitting in the theater watching the film, you see what fans agree is Suho, as the leader, probably trying to protect the members and prevent Chen from watching the film by covering his eyes. Whatever is being played on the movie screen is thought to probably be the Red Force trying to control EXO. (Which is now thought to also be connected to the fact that we see Chen and Xiumin in the theater in EXO's new "Let Me In" MV.)
You also will see references to the movie screen with Chen being projected on the screen in their "Lucky One" MV and the scene where Suho is running through the forest in their "For Life" MV, etc. These instances seem to be showing times when the Red Force are using the videos to brainwash EXO and to keep them incapacitated so they don't try to fight back or escape, etc.
In "Love Shot," one theory is that the members are fighting to discover who has been corrupted by the Red Force and who may not be who they say they are, etc., which I see as a sort of continuation of the story in their "Tempo" MV. This is why you see them being very suspicious pointing their guns -- which are filled with alcohol -- at each other. (Get it? The song is called "Love Shot" so it has a double meaning: Love Shot like a gun and Love Shot like a shot of alcohol. :D)
Yet again, we see a clear glass cube with a red liquid inside, which seems to be part of a theme that connects with most of EXO's other MVs.
The flowers have two purposes, one is they represent Love and EXO is collecting love, but also the flowers are a big part of EXO's storyline. There has been a flower theme that continues throughout all of EXO's MVs. The flowers are thought to be something that EXO is collecting and trying to get rid of to prevent the Red Force from being able to control people, etc. They often collect the flowers and then burn them, like you see in "Love Shot" and you will see in EXO-CBX's "Hey Mama" MV. Blue roses also have some sort of significance, but I am not sure what yet -- we see EXO with a blue rose in their concert performances of "Lightsaber" and we see Sehun with a blue rose in "Love Shot." Some of what happens in this story is explained by past MVs and other parts will hopefully be explained as the story continues in future MVs.
Money is the root of all evil, and people's obsession with material goods and wealth could be one of the ways the Red Force is using to control humanity. Which is why you see EXO trying to take down the gambling ring in their "Monster" and "Lotto" MVs and why they talk about money in EXO-CBX's Japanese song "Ka-Ching," etc. They also burn the giant stack of money in "Monster"/"Lotto." It's not an isolated incident, so it's obviously a significant thing within EXO's storyline.
We also see that everything in the MV was taking place during an eclipse. The eclipse is what controls EXO's powers and it's where they get their power and strength from. So, that is why you see in most of their MVs that they focus on the moon or show an eclipse taking place, etc. However, you should make note that it's not a regular eclipse. We see two moons covering the sun. Which, if you remember in the introduction narration in the beginning of "Mama," they point out how EXO comes from a "planet" with two suns. Each sun is part of a parallel universe that is alike and yet different. Therefore, this could be an indication that they aren't on Earth in this MV, or they may be trapped within another dimension. And if they are still trapped within the Red Force's maze, the Red Force could have them in a dream-like state and some of what we see happening could be happening within their minds.
Baekhyun is actually one of the main characters in EXO's storyline, so he is often set apart or singled out in EXO's MVs. He is often the one that stands alone or is highlighted in the story. For example, in their "Power" MV Baekhyun has been singled out and is sort of separated from the other members, which seems to suggest maybe Baekhyun is the only member that hasn't been corrupted by the Red Force. So that is thought to be why in "Tempo" and in "Love Shot" we see Baekhyun standing on top of the building looking down on the rest of the members, almost as if he is observing them from another dimension or from another time period. Baekhyun is often the one who is going behind the sense to help EXO. For example, we see him disguised as a member of the police as he rescues the other members from the back of the police van in "Monster," and we see Baekhyun facing off with and confronting Xiumin in "Love Shot." :D
We also see scenes in "Love Shot" where the members are sometimes dressed in all black leather and other scenes where we see them dressed in red and black leather, which look very similar to the outfits they were wearing in "Monster," especially when they are in the back of the police van.
And now that we have discovered that the Red Force has created X-EXO, EXO's evil clones, as part of EXO's "Obsession's" MV story, I am also starting to think that maybe in "Love Shot" we aren't just seeing EXO. I think maybe when we see the members dressed in bright colors -- for example, when they are in their suits -- this might be X-EXO and when we see the scenes where they are in black, this could be EXO. Because in "Obsession" we find out that the members in all black are EXO the good guys, and when we see them in the colorful outfits with the crazy hair and makeup that is X-EXO.
This could also explain why Kai is dressed in a red suit. Although I am sure their stylists put him in red because he looks really good in it, I think SM chose it because it's another hidden message within the storyline. Usually, whenever we see red in EXO's MVs this has something to do with the Red Force, so for a long time I have been wondering why then would they put Kai in a red suit? However, now that we know about the X-EXO members, I am starting to think that when we see the members in their colorful suits and clothing in "Love Shot" this is actually the X-EXO members, so when we see Kai in red this is his alter ego clone, as well as the other members when we see them in suits, etc.
I also think maybe the members who are collecting all the flowers in "Love Shot" are really X-EXO, as part of some evil plot, etc. If you look at the members' expressions and the outfits they are wearing in the scenes where you see them collecting the flowers, this reminds me a lot of what they looked like in their "Ko Ko Bop" MV.
Since "Obsession," theories now think that what the "Ko Ko Bop" MV was showing us was X-EXO right after they were created as they are becoming acclimated to the world and learning how to use their powers, etc. Which would explain why everything in the "Ko Ko Bop" MV is so brightly colored as well.
But you should also know that no one really knows for sure what is happening in any of EXO's MVs. There are well known theories and storylines that are accepted within the fandom, which we think might explain what is happening in each MV. And there are theories about how each MV is connected and where each falls within their larger storyline, but nothing is set in stone. Fan theories are constantly evolving and changing with every introduction of a new piece of the puzzle.

    -Love Me Right (9 members)
-Don't Fight the Feeling (6 members - 2 in the military and No Lay - he was in China)
-Call Me Baby (10 Members - Tao left the group shortly after)
-Power (8 members - No Lay - He was in China)
I also think you might like their Sub unit EXO-CBX as their songs are alot of fun and upbeat (3 members - Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin)
    -Hey Mama
    -Blooming Day
They also have AMAZING b-sides :D vocal kings!

You're right thinking that almost all of them can hit that note in "Cream Soda" 😉 They are called "The kings of vocals" within kpop fandom - the "weakest" vocalist in EXO could easily be the main vocalist in another group.
Only the two rappers might maybe struggle to hit that high chorus in "Cream Soda" - although I think one of them, Chanyeol, could do it with some practice 😁 Dude's crazy musically gifted, probably the most talented person I know in kpop, next to Woozi from Seventeen.
EXO is one of my favorite groups of all time ❤ They are very R&B and vocally heavy, so maybe that's why not every song would be for you - since you prefer faster tracks.
Maybe try their debut song "MAMA" (it's a VERY strong debut - and lyrics are beautiful) or "Don't fight the feeling" - they released it in 2021 for their 9th anniversary, it's very upbeat and fun.
"Don't fight the feeling" actually made me emotional despite the bright and upbeat nature of the song, but because you don't know EXO, you will just have a (hopefully) great time, without crying 😅
If you want to know - basically, EXO has officially 9 members since 2015 (originally 12), but one of the current members (Lay, Chinese member) was on hiatus since 2016, because of political tensions between China and Korea (long, complicated story).
However Lay didn't leave EXO. He's always talking about still being in the group, mentioning his members in interviews and during his shows, meeting with them every time they can... Lay was just not able to promote with the group officially, so now he's more active as a solo singer.
When in 2018 he briefly showed up in the MV of EXO's "Tempo" I was speechless.. Lay was on the screen for literally 2 seconds, without even singing, and I freaked out 😂
And now, why I was emotional for EXO's 9th anniversary song and album?
Because we can not only SEE Lay in the MV (for more than 2 seconds), but also HEAR him singing on EXO's tracks after so long 😭 They named it a "special album" and it truly was just that ❤
It's a shame that not every member finished military service for their 9th anniversary, because although we had Lay, 2 members were still serving, so we couldn't see all of them together..
Ps.: You really liked Lay's voice in "Monster" (the only song he was on, from what you've reacted to) and I'm so glad you pointed him out (the green room guy) - I also LOVE his voice 🥰
As a solo artist Lay (known as Lay Zhang) is technically C-Pop, not K-Pop, but maybe someday you will check out some of his songs? 😊

The song is called "Tempo" and the album is named Don't Mess Up My Tempo, so, the tempo is intentionally a prominent part of the song. I think the tempo is also supposed to mirror the uncertainty and unsteadiness that EXO are feeling within the storyline in the MV and be the driving force spurring them on in the story.
However, if you read the lyrics, you see that in the song they are talking to a girl and they are telling her, "Don't mess up my tempo." And yes, part of the tempo in the song is created by the squeak of what is thought to be bed springs. (The underlying theme of the song is a tongue and cheek reference to sexual innuendo.) On the surface, the song and MV is meant to be enjoyed by the casual watcher and listener like you would any song on the radio, but if you want to delve in deeper and explore EXO's storyline, then there is so much more going on.
As an SM Entertainment group, for anyone who knows SM, it shouldn't be a surprise that EXO are amazing vocalists -- hence the a capella part in the song. That is just what SM is known for. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing vocals and dance skills. That's just a fact about the type of people SM selects to become part of its company. All of SM's artists were first chosen for their visuals, vocals and/or dance skills, and even the rappers get intense training as vocalists. That is why SM is known as the vocal powerhouse of the industry. And EXO is a perfect example of that, often referred to as "the vocal kings of Kpop."
To understand the choices being made in this song and the story in the MV, you have to be aware that everything EXO is involved in, and I literally mean almost everything, is connected in some way to their concept and storyline. EXO's MVs are kind of like a movie -- it's a movie that has been going on for the past 11+ years -- since pre-debut -- and it has no sign of coming to an end any time soon.
You need to know that from day one, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet Exo and they came to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the evil Red Forces. As otherworldly beings, each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them.
The aesthetic of the "Tempo" MV is centered around the color red because the setting is supposed to be depicting the members under the Red Forces' control. Without going into too much detail -- there is so much going on in EXO's "Tempo" MV that it's hard to grasp it all -- what fan theories think is happening in "Tempo" is it's showing the members of EXO all trapped in separate dimensions. Each of those rooms, could possibly be a different dimension and that is why you see the glitches and why you hear Xiumin and Baekhyun with that computerized voice, because they aren't all in the same place at the same time, so their voices are being distorted as they try to connect between dimensions, etc.
They also still could be trapped in different rooms within the maze, like what we see them in their "Overdose" MVs. For several of EXO's MVs we believe they are still trapped within the maze and they are continuously trying to find their way out. The maze seems to affect their connection to their powers and it clouds their minds and dulls their senses, so not only are they fighting the Red Force and X-EXO, but they are also struggling to break free from the fog the Red Force has them in. That's why you see some of the members just lazily sitting around and kind of blankly staring off into space at times.
Baekhyun is the one that is singled out in the MV and he is the one standing above everything looking down, so this is one example of where we think that maybe he is the only one who has avoided the Red Force's control and he is observing everything that is going on from the outside.
You see Chanyeol being interrogated by Chen with the inkblot test and that is thought to be the members trying to figure out who are the real EXO members and who are the evil X-EXO members created by the Red Force -- or who are the real members and who are the clones. At this point everyone is suspicious of each other and no one can be trusted.
Also notice how the inkblot looks like it's shaped like a butterfly. The butterfly is an important part of SM Entertaiment's SM Culture Universe storyline that connects all of the company's artists' and groups' storylines together. We see a butterfly in EXO's debut "Mama" MVs in 2012, which is thought to be connected to the colorful butterfly that is Ningnig's symbol in aespa's story, so you will see it all the time in aespa's MVs starting in 2020 as Ningning navigates through the digital world. You also will see a butterfly appear in several of SM's other groups' MVs, which is often used as a metaphor to represent a woman -- possibly representing a connection to the heart of the Tree of Life from EXO's storyline -- in each of the MVs, as a way to connect all of SM's storylines together. For example, there is also a white butterfly in NCT-127's "Favorite (Vampire)" MV from 2021, which is meant to represent the "vampire" woman that they are singing about, and it's even thought it could be connected to the white butterfly in SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong" MV from 2009. It also could be the white butterfly that helps aespa navigate through Kwangya in aespa's "aespa ep. 2 'Next Level' - SM Culture Universe" video in 2022, which would explain why we see a similar butterfly in all of SM's storylines. The butterfly appears to help everyone as they travel through Kwangya. (Everything SM does has to do with Kwangya -- even SM's new building where everything is created and produced is called Kwangya. Kwangya is the metaverse that all of SM's groups' and artists' concepts, and most of their MV storylines revolve around.)
Therefore, the butterfly inkblot could be used as a way to try and break the control the Red Force has over the EXO members and to remind them of the fact that they need to find their way out of the maze and to not forget what their mission is, etc.
As you may have noticed, halfway through the MV Chanyeol's eyes and hair change color, so some think that this is either showing two different versions of Chanyeol who appear in two different time periods or dimensions, or one is Chanyeol the EXO member and one is Chanyeol the X-EXO clone. Often, when you see a character in one of SM's MVs with blue eyes or different eye colors this usually means they are not who they appear to be.
The silhouettes you see behind the lighted white wall or box also could be connected to the silhouettes you will see when you watch EXO's live remixed version of their song "Wolf" in concert. The silhouettes could represent the fact that EXO are battling with X-EXO for control. (And, now, it also could be connected to the silhouettes we see behind the white wall in SHINee's new "Hard" MV.)
The "Chess game" is thought to be supernatural EXO chess, and I don't think it's a game they are playing, but I think maybe it's something they are using to try to decipher a clue or figure out a way out of wherever the Red Force has them trapped at the moment. It's unclear right now what that scene is really telling us, but I have a feeling, things will become clearer in the future as more of EXO's storyline is unveiled in future MVs and as SM's SM Culture Universe storyline continues to evolve.
At one point you see them take those "chess" pieces and put them together to form a larger cube shape, which is thought could possibly be a model of the maze in which they are trapped in. And I think this also may be connected to the cube/labyrinth maze we see floating in the air in WayV's "Love Talk" MV in 2019 and the similar cube we see blocking aespa's way as they travel through Kwangya in aespa's ep. 2 video. And I think it might even be connected to the labyrinth cube we see SHINee's Key standing on top of and floating in the air in his solo "Gasoline" MV in 2022. (Baekhyun and Kai from EXO, Taemin from SHINee, Taeyong and Mark from NCT, Ten from WayV and Lucas who is a former member of WayV, are all members of the Kpop supergroup SuperM, which I think is why SM is creating connections between all of their groups' storylines, because it's all part of the same story. Plus, everything aespa does is connected to the SM Culture Universe and is linked to EXO's/SuperM's storyline.)
In SuperM's "One (Monster & Infinity)" MV, we see the members using a map to navigate through what is thought could be the maze that the EXO members are trapped in, as SuperM is coming to rescue EXO from the Red Force's control. And it could even have something to do with the fact that we see in SHINee's new teaser video for their Hard album, that they are also trying to solve a maze, which -- because SHINee's Taemin is a member of SuperM -- could possibly be SHINee trying to help EXO as well.
We also see EXO's Sehun on the motorcycle in "Tempo", which I now think is connected to the scene where we see him driving a motorcycle in EXO's "Lightsaber" MV and sitting on the motorcycle in their "Don't Fight the Feeling" MV.
In the very last scene in "Tempo", that is Baekhyun with that glass cube. I am not sure what that means, but I am sure it's foreshadowing something to come in the future with EXO's storyline, and it probably has something to do with the fact that Baekhyun is the one that is singled out in most of EXO's story. (We also see Chanyeol with a glass cube similar to the one Baekhyun has, in their "Love Shot" MV.)
Fun fact No. 2: EXO's Chinese member, Lay, is in this MV, but you won't see or hear him sing or dance because you watched the Korean version, and at this time, because of the political issues between China and Korea, the Chinese government only gave him permission to appear in the Korean version of "Tempo", but he wasn't allowed to participate in the song. If you want to hear Lay sing you will have to watch the Mandarin version.

EXO are the vocal kings of K-pop. Their 3 main singers are all considered among the very best out there and you can see that all of them can sing. To best see their vocals and musicality - look into their B-sides. Another way is to check out EXO on Killing Voice where they are singing live and in 1-take. They have songs from every genre and do not limit themselves to a certain style. They change members because of the military - officially they are 9 members since 2015. Lay (the one in the green room in Monster) is the only Chinese member and has not been able to participate much due to political issues between Korea and China. He did participate on their special album (Don't Fight the Feeling) from 2021 (although he recorded his parts on the album and the MV from China).

EXO has some hard hitting tracks, but they have more diverse discography - from amazing ballads to r&b sesual songs, from hyper edm tracks to early 2000's influenced sound. Sorry I can't explain it in professional terms, but you got me - they don't make one or two types of songs, they do everything and do it well.
Once again, thank you for your interest in EXO. I can understand if you don't vibe with their songs, but still hope one day, when you need something different in your life you'll look at EXO and find what you need.
For us, their fans EXO is home. I'm from the elder part of the fandom, I have my own family and children, my work and real life, but still EXO is my second home. Every time I feel bad or I lost hope I go to their music and they helps me. They are just that good.
Wishing you a great week ahead, with more great music!
btw, as you mentioned SHINee - EXO is from the same company SM Entertainment. You'll hear many things about SM, but one is undeniable - the talent. All SM's groups and I mean ALL - from TVXQ to Super Junior and Girls' Generation, SHINee, EXO, NCT, aespa, Red Velvet, all of them are top tier groups with amazing vocal skills and charizma. And I mean not only as groups but their members individually, just like EXO. Hahaha People joke it's because of "sm water".
Anyways, have a great day and 😊

Please check out their Killing Voice performance to catch live snippets of some of their discography.
For the female kpop version of Exo, please check out Mamamoo, if you haven't already. These 2 groups have some of the best vocals and keep getting better and better. Both are my number 1 and also the reason I got into, and stayed into kpop. Both groups are unfortunately not promoted in the west. However, because of their amazing dance and vocal talent, as well as loyal fans, many of us in the west have come to know and loved them.

I know, I know, their numbers shift constantly. A lot depends on what year the song came out. They started with 12members: split into two groups of six; Korean and Mandarin. Two Koreans joined the four Chinese to make up the mandarin line.
By 2014, two Chinese had left. Then a third Chinese left. So they were at nine, only one Chinese, Lay. Lots of times, Lay wasn’t allowed to appear with the group because of strained relations between the governments of China and Korea. So when Lay isn’t there, there are eight.
Then, they started going into the military two at a time. So then There were 5,6,7, 8, depending on if Lay is there and how many are serving. They staggered the ones going into the military, two at a time.
Right now Kai of the mid-ab sweaters is in. And Sehun will be the last to go in later this year.
I think this group of men has it all: visuals, vocals, choreo, rap, and just plain entertainment abilities.

Love seeing people discover EXO. I think you tend to like EXO's r&b/funk/pop side, just like me! I think some other EXO songs you would like would be Love Me Right, Call Me Baby, Growl, Lucky One, Hear Me Out. These videos are much 'brighter' and are more upbeat and funky. With EXO you'll be sure to be served VOCALS. These men can REALLY sing, and they tend to lean to an r&b style/vibe.
Aside from Cream Soda which was released as the official comeback title track for 2023, EXO also released two other MVs - Hear Me Out and Let Me In. I would highly recommend you to check it out. You might like Hear Me Out cause it's really vibey but it is on the slower side. Let Me In is a straight up r&b ballad where they serve vocals (and face in the MV).

All EXO members are 9 until now. When you see in many MV there's a lot of different numbers it's all because so many reasons.
In Monster MV all 9 members in it, in Obsession MV only 6 because 1 member in China (political reason between SK and China) and 2 members in military service.
In Cream Soda mv only 7 members (1 in China and 1 in military service) and Tempo MV only 8 members (1 in China because of political issues too).
If you wanna know about EXO better learn slowly. This group so amazing for me.
Thank you for reacting to EXO songs. 👍👍👍

Okay.....I don't even know what to ask for anymore! You just decided to surprise the hell out of me yet again lol. First you dropped the MONSTA X bomb, and now EXO!? They truly are THE absolute vocal kings of kpop. I'm never gonnaget over their talent. AND THEIR DISCOGRAPHY?! Just hold on till you see the amount of stuff they put out in their amazing career 👏🏻 I don't think they have skips, like in my opinion. They have a lit of very vocal heavy songs (ahem even one of their pre-debut songs 'What Is Love' is one of them)
Damn 😩🤌🏻 now I REALLY have to put some timestamps:
    - at 9:36, 16:04, 22:06, 28:39 & 36:07 (and 38:03 cuz it's iconic) - SUHO '91 liner (leader & lead vocalist) - *bias #1*
    - at 9:01, 16:29, 29:35 & 35:43 - XIUMIN (pronounced kinda like shoe-min) '90 liner (lead vocalist & lead dancer & sub rapper)
    - at 29:40 & 37:15 - LAY '91 liner (main dancer & lead vocalist) - he's the only chinese member; a very (and I mean VERY) well known and appreciated artist (& actor) back in China; you actually pointed him out in Monster, which is the only MV you really saw him in; he IS still a part of the group (he's always said it), it's just that in China he's involved, in a way, with politics (being a youth ambassador) and because there's still some tension going on at the moment between Korea and China, he hasn't been able to actively promote with his group since 2017 ish (we do get a glimpse of him in the Tempo MV tho wich is awesome); also, his solo stuff bangs, like legit, and he does it all himself (writes, composes, produces, choreographs...everything)
    - at 8:28, 16:51 (fluffy jacket guy), 21:52, 28:21 & 35:36 (and 38:16 cuz it's iconic) - BAEKHYUN '92 liner (main vocalist) - vocal.god.no.1 - *bias #2*
    - at 8:41, 16:34, 22:14, 28:50 & 34:44 (and 37:41 cuz it's iconic) - CHEN '92 liner (main vocalist) - he's actually married and has two kids 🤗 (and god he's gotten so much fucking hate for it it's actually insane) - vocal.god.no.2
    - at 10:01, 16:17, 22:44, 30:45 & 36:49 - CHANYEOL '92 liner (main rapper & sub vocalist)
    - at 9:50, 16:10, 28:32 & 36:31 (and 37:43 cuz it's iconic) - D.O '93 liner (main vocalist) - he's such an amazing actor, I just had to mention it - vocal.god.no.3
    - at 8:54 (and 9:10 🥰), 18:02 (you can actually only hear his vocals here cuz he already enlisted and he is also in the album), 22:00, 28:46 & 34:59 - KAI '94 liner (main dancer & lead vocalist & sub rapper) - just FYI, but he's besties Taemin (since they were legit babies) and Jimin (love these 3 so much); and also, he's the "croptop guy" that had you in shambles lowkey 😇, he does that to people, been there
    - at 10:09, 16:22, 22:58, 30:53 & 35:51 - SEHUN '94 liner (lead dancer & lead rapper & maknae)
Once again, kinda went off a little, but I really hope it helps. Sorry if it's too long or if there are any possible mistakes 😅.
As always, lots lots lots of love and have a wonderful day!!!
    💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜

I started checking EXO music videos, just like you, along with BTS, Astro and few others. Frankly speaking none of the group's music videos (neither EXO nor BTS nor any other) influenced me a lot. However when I started checking B-side tracks of EXO I got a feeling, for the first time, that I would like to check this group more as compared to others. At present I have more than 60% EXO B-side tracks in my playlist, none of any title tracks. :) I find it strange, its B-sides of EXO that always attracts me. Even for latest EXIST album, I liked the music video Cream Soda but that it not my fav song. Cinderella and Another Day are my favs. So , you can check EXO's B-side songs too to get a feeling of their vocals, their main strength.

I am sure someone has already told you but exo is 9. although as of april 2022 lay decided not to renew his contract and left sm. he does solo activities in the US and China and is still a member of exo but there's been no news on his activities with exo. kai, is the one you pointed out in love shot and in obsession. he is currently serving which is why he's not in cream soda mv. his vocals are in the song and the rest of the album tho. I think you would prefer the two pre singles exo released before cream soda. it showcases the vocals of all members and you seem to enjoy vocals a lot. exo is a very versatile group they've been able to do almost every genre. their main genre is r&b.
the pre singles from the Exist album are:
    Let Me In
    Hear Me Out

Hi! Thanks for reacting to the King of Vocals in Kpop - EXO. They have so many genres of songs but their roots is RnB. Their MVs since debut are all have a different genre, they're not afraid to try other genre so its okay if you won't like some of their songs if its not your taste.
The difference of the number of members in their MVs is due to their military service. They do comeback even they're missing 1-3 members due to military and Lay (the chinese member) is in China. In Loveshot they're 8 without Lay. In Cream Soda, they're 7 without Lay and Kai (due to Military). In Obsession, they're 6 without Lay (in China) and Xiumin and D.O due to military service.
I suggest you to react to their Killing Voice for you to have snippets of their discography. And ofcourse for you to hear their Beautiful Live vocals.
