    The setting up sounds overwhelming but the more I watch, the more I realize how much fun this could be. I'm becoming enamored with yarn crafts. Crocheting was first, then I wanted to start looming but that wasn't much of my thing, now I'm learning to knit which I love. Hopefully I can try this someday.

    im happy to see this because here in indonesia, young people right now didnt really know how to weave or we called it "tenun", maybe because it used to be so big and heavy and traditional and difficult and so traditional (old culture). but i see that the basic is actually really simple and easy and make me want to tenun my own scarf. if you are curious about indonesian waeving, just googling Indonesian tenun :D . • @hatchling88
      @hatchling88 6 лет назад +33

      Only you can answer that. Why do people usually watch videos? To amuse themselves or to learn. Either way, it's not wasted time when you wind up just a bit more knowledgable than you were before you watched. If you're not interested in doing it yourself, fine, but look at it this way, you learned about weaving, one of the most ancient crafts, still done today, all over the world. You've gained knowledge about how most of the fabric in the clothing you wear was woven. Big industrial machines or small, the process just differs in scale.

    • @AshfordNz

      You can wind the warp on as long as you want (as long as it fits on the back roller). You can weave one project and cut it off and weave another - it is a good idea to make the warp for more than one project as it save you time. Joins are no problem at all, there are many options depending on the yarn. I kept watching a learning and at the same time saving to buy this one The Ashford Samplelt Rigid Heddle 10 inch weaving loom. Today after 3 months of saving $$ I found this one on Esty.. and I purchased it today...free shipping and no taxes.. I am so excited to start a new venture in rigid heddle loom.. weaving..later i can purchase a stand and a extra heddle.. I also purchase a book that has lots of ideas on rigid heddle looming weaving patterns. The price is amazingly low.. I know how expensive a large Rigid Heddle Loom can cost... but for starters this has lot for the price and that is just fine for me.

    Thank you, Kate. You answered a few questions. Perhaps Ashford could consider mfg a hinged-top style of rigid heddle, to eliminate the cutting and threading in dress the loom. Project fiber end-waste (when not tasseled) can add up. The heddle top-bar could be hinged at one end (mine is wing-nut), and all tines are open-slot from usual bottom or half measure, but all the way to the top, where a fine guage polymer cross-x in the heddle's tine tops (as in easy-thread needles) would easily hold sleyed heddle fibers in position, till the fully dressed heddle's top-bar would again secured for weaving position. It would certainly also ease warp color changes and unexpected fiber flaws or breaks. It's great spending less time sleying and more time weaving. Thanks.

    Great tut. I have issues with my scarf edges, so that hold + angle tip was helpful. I'm by myself crafting too. Still tons of conversation, and half the time I even win arguments that arise.

      This is a sample loom. To try out your warp, weft threads to see if you want to use them (is the design pleasing/colorways), and then warp up your bigger loom, whether it's a bigger table loom or a floor loom.

    Thankyou so much. After watching "many" videos on how to warp a loom with a heddle bar. Your's is the first that made sense, had clear instructions that I could follow, no distracting music or words written on the screen to try and read and watch what you are doing at the same time. Most importantly I could see what you where doing. After many failed attempts I was about to give up, just from pure frustration then I found your video. I can't thankyou enough. 😊🌻

    Hi Kate, love your videos! As a newby weaver having just purchased a SampleIt loom and living in country Australia the videos have been invaluable to me. I would love to see you show us all the looms Ashford sells going on why you would choose RH, Knitters, Table and how to go about choosing size and shaft numbers. To see the actual looms side by side would be awesome and such a help to choose my next loom. Kyle at Paradise Fibres in the US does a great comparision between RH but I want more info on Ashford. Thanks so much!

    Hi, The threads are in the eyes and the slots - when you move the reed it changes the shed (crosses the threads over the weft yarn) to lock it in place.
    Thanks

    This thing is kinda stupid when you normally weave on a really big loom... xD

    • @ollynolly4592
      @ollynolly4592 7 лет назад +24

      Ichigo - Kirai Different sized looms are used to weave different things. Plus if you're a beginner it's easier to start smaller then bigger, so I don't really see how it's stupid.

    • @Ichigonomu
      @Ichigonomu 7 лет назад +2

      Oli Joni I don't really mean that serious, of course it's noch that stupid, it's just seems a bit unprofessional compared to a big "real" loom

    • @ollynolly4592
      @ollynolly4592 7 лет назад +24

      Ichigo - Kirai As long as it's a loom, it's a 'real' loom. It's not really unprofessional either. What you are basically saying is 'the bigger the machine the better you are at looming' which is completely false since you use the same technique no matter what form or design you plan on doing.

    • @Ichigonomu
      @Ichigonomu 7 лет назад +2

    I love that weaving means you can use any yarn, you don't need a core thread like some knitting designs, or with eyelash yarn crocheting it makes me feel like I'm going blind.
