I think I hold the world's record on longest transfer punch. I made mine out of a 3-foot long piece of .750 aluminum rod drilled and tapped a 3/8-16 hole in the end and used one of my transfer screws for the point. I used it to mark the center of a half nut for a vintage Clausing lathe that I am rebuilding. Works great.
Someone asked about it recently and apparently it is not made anymore. I could not even find a used one on eBay. If you are interested in it, I will send it to you for shipping cost. I have never used it and am trying to thin out my tools. Send me an email, it is on the about page of my channel. All the best!
lol The new ending is awesome! I'm glad you decided to make a video, because I forgot what was even in the box. Glad you like the stuff. Oh.. the tape might be a fail. I tried to use some out of that same carton of rolls and it was a no go. I suspect the whole carton is going to either be hit and miss, or just completely useless. Whatever.
That's weird, I have never had one of those go bad. Maybe it was stored badly. Big changes in heat and cold might affect it. But that stuff is pretty bulletproof
@@theeddies I've had it many times with old tape, and yep.. very likely due to years of oven garage/freezer garage temp fluctuations. It's sadly amusing to me, because obviously it's an "Oh well." no big deal thing, but it does also sting because it's 3M electrical tape, and that's gold around the shop! I guess all that glitters in plastic petri dishes isn't in fact gold.
All it says is Gauge it rite. I did a quick search and it looks like it is not made anymore. Based on the price sticker that was on it. It could have been from the 80's. With the price of digital calipers now it does not surprise me that this thing is not made anymore.
Hello Ade, There is a version made in Japan, that is quite a bit cheaper. Though they use blued or case hardened steel for the adjustment nut. They are a a pretty nice tool. Thanks for stopping by. All the best! Eddie
I think @John Strange may actually be a tool thief. His finds seem to good to be true sometimes. I also think I saw one those masks like the Hamburglar wears in one of his videos.😀
Hello Bill, Absolutely. Kelly has been making them since the 1950's. I cannot believe they are not more well known. Such a simple, yet elegant solution to a common fabrication technique. All the best! Eddie.
@@theeddies I've been scribbling a design for a diy project, but they would need a lot of quite critical operations , with the long holes being some of the trickiest , the tool will have to be shorter if jobber length drills are to be used.
@@wktodd I kind of realized when I was videoing the difficulty of that body piece. The thin walls and thin slits between the leaves seems like a serious holding challenge in my inexperience.
It's like Christmas day..talk about an amazing set of transfer punches
They really are my new favorite --toy-- tool
I have a set of them, but the center punch set has other uses such as temporarily keeping other holes aligned as you transfer holes.
Skip ahead to 8:45 for the expanding center punch info...

@@johnstrange6799 Dude, someone just called you a tool thief in the comments.
Who manufactures that pocket sizing tool? I can't find it on the internet.

Yes it was. :-)
I like them, now the search for some in the UK begins, thanks for the video

Those are some super cool punches 😃. First I've ever seen some like that. Don't know how he finds all that stuff 👍😁👍.

Flare nut wrenches not brake line wrenches. 😜
👌
Thanks!
