TESLA Rotates My Tires In My DRIVEWAY! Scheduling/Cost/Experience

  • After 12,095 miles, I needed a tire rotation done on my 2020 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus. I scheduled a service appointment in my Tesla Mobile App for them to come to my home and rotate my tires. They did it in 30 minutes and it cost me $50. This Tesla Mobile Service thing is AMAZING. I also explain about optimum tire pressure for a smooth ride while still getting the rated driving range. I did have a little scheduling issue because I tried to get two things done at one time. However, if you just want a rotation you won't have any issues. Enjoy!!

    That's great if you are pressed for time and want it done at home. If you have a Discount Tire in your area and are cheap like me, they will rotate your tires for free. And if you use their website to book the appointment, you will get to jump in line over the walk-in customers.

    As the wheels turn, Sara! When I first got my Model 3, Tesla rotated the tires for free, twice. After that… they started charging. I'll have to replace the tires soon, and I'll likely go to Big O, as they've always given me great service. They will rotate my tires for free, but… I might pay Tesla to do it anyway, simply because I want to support the company, its mission, and its great technicians.

    I have used Firestone for my tire rotation. Prior to going I went to Amazon and got a set of 4 pucks so they can lift it. Now Firestone charges one time of 32 for all 4 tires and they will rotate and balance as needed for life of the tire. Now Tesla recommends every 10k but the rear wheel drive puts way more wear on rear tires versus an all wheel drive model would. Especially if your like me and mainly do 1 foot driving. Because of that Firestone recommendation is every 5k miles for rotations to keep tire wear more equal.

    • @SaraJAwesome
      @SaraJAwesome  3 года назад

      Yeah it has great weight distribution. But rotating isn’t just for acceleration wear, it’s also for turning the front wheels. When you are turning you’re wearing down the edges of the front tires differently than the rear. It’s already been another 7,000 since my last rotation and my app says to rotate but I will probably wait 10,000 between each rotation or just whenever I get to it. I do a lot of highway driving so I don’t really turn that much but when I do it’s wide turns at high speed. Thanks for sharing this info!

    Hello Sara,
    Scheduling a Tesla Mobile Service on the Tesla App to come out and service your car is super easy and fast. I rather do that every single time instead of taking my car to the service center and wait there, unless I have no choice. I didn’t have any issues with any of the technicians when they came out and working on my Model 3.
    Recently, I did have my tires rotated at 15k miles and HomeLink Module installed in the car. Tesla charged me $39.00 to rotate the tires. The technician did everything under 1 hour.
    I really like the look of having the aero hub caps off and I’m planning to install the cap kit for more sporty look.
    Good job on the video!

    Mobile service is coming today to do the fix to stop the thump when supercharging. I've done 2 mobile services and one shop visit for my June 2020 model 3. What's annoying is not knowing what repairs/service mobile can do in advance. My 1st mobile visit (last year) couldn't fix the problem I scheduled. I thought today's service could only be done in the shop, but yesterday I was told mobile service could do the fix. We'll see. BTW, my June 2020 Model 3 has 2100 miles on it. ;-)

  • @theodorehaskins3756

    Wow! That was a little painful, I’m glad you got your tires rotated, as even tire wear is an important maintenance task! So the tire pressure issue you described can easily be solved by simply buying one of those tire inflators, they are very convenient, very handy & you can easily check your tire pressures with them when you’re getting your car charged at a supercharger for instance, that’s what I do! So there are a variety of these tire inflators at various prices, I bought mine from a company called Hammacher Schlemmer, it’s was a bit on the pricey side, but I found it to be an excellent tool & I never worry about whether or not I have the proper tire inflation, because it has the automatic shut off feature, that allows you to dial in the exact pressure you want & once you attach the pressure line to the valve stem on your tire, you just stand back & let the device do all the work! The other thing that’s nice about having a Tesla is that if you need to move the car in order to get the valve stem in the right position you can easily do that remotely while you stand outside the car! Obviously you don’t want to be attached to the charger when you do that, but it only takes a few minutes to top off your pressures if you need to! This is also particularly useful & helpful when it’s cold outside as you don’t have to wait sometimes in a line to use a public tire inflator at say a gas station, I ran into that problem & I said to myself never again do I want to find myself in that position & also I found some of them in bad repair or they don’t work properly of don’t work at all & some even have the temerity to actually charge you to use them & what if you don’t have the proper coinage that’s a bummer too! The other advantage is if you carry a tire sealant in your car you may need to just put air in the tire along sealant & that’s good enough to get you to a place where you can be safe to call up the mobile unit to get your tire fixed & if you’re out on the road rather than sitting out on the road waiting for them to show up & having to deal with errant drivers who don’t seem to think that the road belongs to anyone but them, as there’s plenty of examples where people wear hit & killed because they were on the side of the road trying to change a flat tire, not a good idea! So I hope you find this information helpful! Thank you for posting your video & I look forward to seeing you in the next one!😎👍🏾👍🏾

    • @SaraJAwesome
      @SaraJAwesome  3 года назад +1

      Yes, I dod have one that was a different brand a long time ago. And I had the sealant too. For now, I’m being cheap and wanted to verify everything with the service guy and let him do it for free out of convenience. But I agree with you 💯 on ALL of this! I have delt with the tire inflators so manu times at has stations and had so many issues. Such a nightmare. I have a tire gauge in my car. And my car has its own guage lol which is super nice. Never had that before. But I do need the inflator. I’ll check out this brand. Thanks so much!

      @@SaraJAwesome The problem with the Tesla tire monitor system, as with all of these on board monitoring systems, is that you have to be driving the car to actually get the sensors to work properly & I fine even then, it’s not as accurate as it should be! The other thing is, there’s a consideration of when your tires are cold versus when they’re hot, because as you know the tire pressure is going to change as the tires heat up as you indicated in your video! So this just makes it so much easier to be sure that you’re within the proper tire pressure ranges & the other thing is you just don’t wanna be on the side of the road changing a tire & Tesla’s cars don’t come with a spare tire, so you don’t even have that as an option, unless you buy that optional tire that is available from other 3rd party suppliers! So good luck & stay safe! Oh, BTW, have you gotten your COVID-19 shots? I got the Moderna shot & I got both of them, so I am fully vaccinated against COVID-19! I feel extremely lucky & I’m encouraging everybody to get the shot when you can, I’ve had people in my family telling me, oh I’m gonna wait for the Johnson & Johnson 1 shot vaccine & I’m saying to them, you’re playing Russian roulette with your life! So get whichever vaccine that’s available & don’t wait, as it’s simply not worth taking that kind of risk if you don’t have to! The more people that are vaccinated the better off we’re all be & the sooner we’re be able to get back to some type of normal life! People need to remember that there is no living in dying, so don’t do it! So get the shot & ❤️ your neighbor by wearing a 😷! Cheers!😎🕊

      Haha! Actually my husband just got his second Pfizer just now 15 min ago. I got my first Pfizer 2 weeks ago, AND I actually had Covid myself last year in June. I got it from a patient at work though I don’t work with covid patients. I was okay but exhausted for about 4 weeks and lost take and smell for weeks. I had no serious complications at all and was fine and didn’t give it to any of my family or coworkers. I was lucky. But I still recommend the shot yo everyone even if u had Covid! It’s a boost! Why not?! I also donated my plasma when I had Covid to help a Covid patient and for research as well. I think that it’s great you’re spreading the news;) Also, I agree on the tire pressure sensor.

      @theodorehaskins3756 3 года назад +1

      @@SaraJAwesome Wow! That’s the other thing to remind people that even though you’ve gotten the vaccine you could still infect others & so even though I’ve gotten the shots I still have not been tested, so I don’t know if I ever had COVID or do I still have it & so that’s an issue, so wearing a mask, practicing all the CDC guidelines of social distancing & frequently washing our hands, something we should be doing anyway & keep our homes as clean as possible & the other thing is changing the filter in your central air conditioning & heating systems is also important things to do too! My dentist office has air purifiers in all of his dental rooms & his front office reception area too!😇

      Dang! That sucks! I’ve had one person tell me that TESLA told them they were phasing out rotations completely at some locations due to being too busy with other maintenance and problems. You can take you Tesla to a regular tire shop to get them rotated and often for free. Just call around ask them how much and if they have experience with it. Make sure they have the jack pads to protect the under-carry/battery too. Check discount tire and ask them first. I’m sorry. That’s too much for tire rotation. I think different locations may have different prices and options sometimes. Once there are a lot more service centers I think they won’t be as busy and provide more services faster. They are swamped right now with a recall on the light cable for the trunk. :(

      It really depends on your driving habits. If you make a lot of turns around town, then the sides of the front tires get worn down. And if you punch it all the time on a rear wheel drive or front wheel drive then it will wear down different than an all wheel drive. For me, I drove fast and have rear wheel drive, BUT since I drive almost 90% on the freeway I don’t really turn sharp turns a lot. So that less stop and go and less turning. So I actually went a long time without rotation and could have gone longer. So the manual is just an average fairly early recommendation. But when they told you could go longer they were trying to save you some money because they knew you could keep going safely without changing them yet. If you can eyeball them and tell from looking then that’s more accurate than the manual. Does that make sense? There’s a lot of factors. But you’re good;)

    4. I can do it when I'm ready and don't have to deal with appointments.
    Now for the bad:
    My friend has a older Tesla and found out about my new knowledge and tools so I spent 4 hours in the garage helping him rotate his tires.

I know they will get better over time because they already have improved over the last few years supposedly. I will always post an honest vid of each service appt so we will see how the next ones go too. ;)

    Interesting that he only uses one jack to lift the car. Part of me thinks that could put a lot of stress on the structure of the car, but part of me thinks it’s fine.
    My old Subaru would twist if I tried that LOL

    • @SaraJAwesome
      @SaraJAwesome  3 года назад

      I will say that was pretty weird. Lol I was watching the whole thing move like wth?! I may take it in next time to service center and see if They do it any different there. Like 4 jacks at one time on a lift. Of course you can’t see into the shop at the Tesla Service Center so I would have to ask while I’m there to just be curious. Idk 🤷‍♀️

      Most modern cars have a specific point to locate the jack so as not to stress the car's frame. In the 1950s (when they made cars with heavy gauge steel) you could place the jack anywhere.

      why would a tire have to be rebalanced lmao? you think they balance the wheel on the actual wheel hub with the brake rotors? no they take the wheel and tire, put it on a machine, and balance the wheel. the wheel is going to balanced the same no matter what wheel hub it's attached to. sounds like you got sold some unnecessary balancing service or your balance weights fell off.

      Cold pressure 45PSI pressure on sticker, 50PSI max on tire itself. I think that means you don’t want to fill up to 50 psi in the summer because when it heats up the pressure will be too much. So I think 40-45 is still good pressure. But hey, I could wrong. My pressure dips about 4lbs under in the cold and raises 4-5 lbs in the summer after driving in the heat.
