My knitting story. No one I knew knitted but I really wanted to learn. So at 12 years old I saved my babysitting and lawn mowing money. With it I bought a kit at Kresge's store. It included pattern with how to instructions, 100% wool sport weight yarn and knitting needles. After a couple of practice runs I was off and finished my pullover. It fit! I was so proud that I wore it for my 8th grade school photos and received many compliments. I did wear that sweater a lot but did no more knitting for a couple of years. My 2nd project was a cardigan. While making it I realized I had twisted all my knit stitches in my first pullover!!😂 Yep, I continued wearing it for a few more years anyway
Love watching your podcast. I found you from The Knitty Katz podcast. May have to go back and watch past podcasts. Thanks again. I got one of your advents. I’m so excited to get it. 💕
RUclips just showed me your channel and I subscribed on first watch. I was very excited to see you again today so soon after subscribing! I live near Portland, OR, and I’m another one of those RUclips premium folks so I never know what kind of ads videos would normally have.
I was one of those new viewers last week! RUclips showed me your channel because Ive been looking for more knitting podcasts. Ive only been knitting since March, but ive been a crocheter for going on 6 years. Definitely loving your podcast and you were an immediate subscribe! Also, you mentioned you homeschool! Thats awesome! I was homeschooled K-12 and I hope to do the same whenever my husband and I decide to have kids. Thanks for having such a warm and welcoming corner of the internet!
Mohair & Science (or how it was explained to me): When animal fibers get warm, the scales lift (making strands grab onto their neighboring strands), when animal fibers get ccccoooollllddd (like in the freezer) the scales flatten and get smooth (thus the strands can slide apart a bit more easily). I frogged the body of a mohair sweater to reknit, alternation skeins. The freezer trick worked a treat. :) -C. A. Tardif haha
I’ll see if I can clarify what I was trying to say about the life line and stitch markers. When you are stringing the life line through your knitting as you knit (i.e. attached to the little hole in your interchangeables), and you go through the stitch markers, they stay with that row. When you knit the next row, you can’t slip the markers as you come to them because they will be caught on the lifeline. You will need new markers for that new row that you can slip as you knit until you get to the next place you want to add a lifeline. However, as I think about it, you can’t go around them or they will drop off the needle. So, if you want to use those markers on the next row (because you forgot to put more in your bag or something), you need to remove them as you come to them and put them back on the next row. Does that make sense? About crochet borders for Gigi. Edie Eckman has a book of crochet borders called Around the Corner Crochet Borders that is terrific - lots of ‘not boring’ ideas. I have used this so many times for my afghans. My Ravelry block a month crochet group refers to this book as ‘the book’ because so many of us have it and use it. She also has another book called Every Which Way Crochet Borders. I have both but have used the first the most.
To add to this conversation, some knitters use the lifeline BECAUSE they are ripping back, and some use this JUST IN CASE they have to rip back in the future, or drop a stitch, so those knitters leave the lifeline in until they get to the next milestone, for example. If you do the second, you will probably want thin stitch markers so that they don't greatly alter the fabric.
I loved in Michigan for 10 years. I was near Lake Michigan beaches. It was so fun to watch the sunset at the dunes. We visited the Upper Peninsula and Mackinac Island. It was beautiful
I LOVE Gigi’s blanket!!!! It makes me want to learn to crochet!!! Maybe I can convince my daughter (15) to learn to crochet and make it for me!!! I have too many knitting projects!!! Thanks for a fun video!!😊
For Gigi's blanket edge--consider trying a backwards single crochet. It's worked left to right (backwards) and creates a nice ripply edging. Thanks for sharing, Love your top...I have some of that colorway.
Michigan girl born and raised. I don’t get home as often as I should, but I will always consider myself a Michigander. We love the Upper Peninsula (the UP) peeps. They are absolutely Michiganders! 😊
Michigan is WEIRD?? What?! No!! We are the coolest state!! Two peninsulas, one in the shape of a MITTEN no less, a beautiful bridge, five gorgeous Great Lakes!! And so much more! And the “yoopers” (those who live in the beautiful upper peninsula) and the “trolls” (who live under the bridge - I am a troll, haha!) all love each other! 😁 Good job, Amy! You sent Devin some great Michigan gifts!
Fun podcast! I’m marking Jan 2925 down! Can’t wait for more details!! I missed last weeks episode and feel like I’m in the dark about several things…..going back to watch now.
HAHAHA!!! Ok, I want GiGi to come and visit me once a day just for entertainment sake. What an adorable child. She's sooo cute, funny and quirky. I LOVE her sweet spirit. I vote to keep the GiGi segment 😀 Girl, that afghan is gonna be the Bomb. When I was 15--16 I made a quilt and I still have it. My Grandbabies have even played on it. Treasure that quilt always and you will be reminded of your childhood, the podcast and time spent with your Mom. ❤
Dear Devin! I’ve just checked in with episode 139 and loved it! Particularly with Gigi, who I’m guessing is your daughter! Here energy is so upbeat and lively! 💕💕 I also wanted to know what and where can I get the pattern of what you were wearing? I’d really love to make it! I know you will probably be on holiday by the time you get this so will await your return! Happy holidays!!🤩
It's so fun to see your children's creativity! Gigi's blanket is going to be amazing! Im so excited for your advent calendar and the "toys" we'll be knitting. Yay for another retreat. Plenty of time to start saving for it.
Gigi is awesome! I did go see Oppenheimer and left very disappointed. Why did they need to add tons of nudity?!!! There was so much history to tap into, but instead the film felt like it tried hard to be loud, disjointed and complex. I guess you can tell I am not a fan. I would like to see the Sound of Freedom, though I imagine it will be tough to watch. When I add a lifeline in with lace knitting I always use a needle to thread yarn or DMC floss through the live stitches NOT going through the markers. Trust me, if you thread through the markers, everything will just get stuck as you continue up your knitting. YAY for a knitting retreat Jan. 2025-count me in! Have an awesome vacation (my family will be at the Outer Banks that week beaching it too). Blessings, Eileen
Oh, my! That mint sweater is dreamy!! I am so impressed with Gigis blanket😊 The colors are so pretty! My favorite border is to do a half double crochet around, and then in a different color do another half double crochet. So many options! Attic 24 has some great tutorials for borders. Have a blessed day❤
Thanks for your podcast. The technique you showed for the Kirchner stitch worked up perfectly. I will use it again if needed. Gigi is going to have a beautiful blanket, she is so talented. Have a great vacation!
New to knitting, found you in Instagram, and then RUclips. Fun podcast, love the color ways - cant wait to see the Fall colors. I crochet baby blankets and agree to “level” the squares single crochet all around with the same color then add the border in another color, perhaps white would be my suggestion. Kristen Omdahl has written a book filled with borders- I’ve used it as a resource many times. Glad to have found you.
Just in response to the Kitchener stitch….. it doesn’t fit my toes well, so I decrease down to 12 stitches then thread my needle through the front and back stitches and draw them all together. Then turn inside out and sew closed. It fits really well😊
I have no idea if this is why, but a “beauty tip” I’ve always used is to rinse my hair with cold water after rinsing the conditioner out bc it closes the cuticle making it nice and smooth…so maybe putting mohair in the freezer does the same thing?
Yes it was me that sent you the Tennessee mug. I am glad you like it. We didn’t see either movie, we went to see the Indiana Jones movie. It wasn’t the best one but it was good. I do want a sock ruler. Oh my goodness!!! I am so excited for another retreat! And I am glad it is in 2025 because we have a big trip planned in 2024 and I won’t be able to do anything else next year. You know I love when Gigi comes on I am always interested in seeing what she is doing. I would do a shell stitch, three double crochet in one stitch, skip one and do it again, for an edging. I hope you have a great week and as always thank you for sharing.
My daughter did a paper on MI. According to her interpretation, Michigan had a war with Ohio. Michigan lost and got the Upper Peninsula and Ohio got Toledo. Lol 😂 It cracks us up because my husband is a Yooper.
I heard this story too on the series, "How the States Got Their Shapes." That show stated that to appease Michigan over the loss of Toledo, the federal government took the upper peninsula from Wisconsin and gave it to Michigan. So basically, Michigan and Ohio went to war, and Wisconsin lost. 😂
WHAT? I live in Wisconsin and I’d like to know how we can get back this land that was unjustly taken from us! Can we offer a trade of cheese and sausage? I would also happily contribute scratchy single-ply toilet paper.
So now I need to go find the slothe bowl! If you block the flowers they will lay flatter. And if you lay something heavy on them they will be flatter still. Also, Gigi, I would only do a single or half double crochet border so not to take away from all the work on the flowers.
I just finished a Tearoom bear in sport weight yarn. But I chose the pattern in the round rather than flat. I was drawn to her bears because they are so cute. I made the boy. Her pattern called for DK but I used sport for the boy and now I’m starting the girl in worsted. I changed the colors and think mine got adorable.
I live in the upper peninsula! We are yoopers and lower Michigan are trolls! 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Trolls because we are under the bridge.

Yayyyyyyy!!!!!!!! Another retreat! I went to your first one and had such a wonderful time! I hope I can make the next one in 2025.
Hello from Mounds, Illinois.
Roxanne Richardson has a RUclips tutorial on the Finchley Graft.
Ok - I’m all over it. Next week! ❤

Gigi is a hoot what a blessing, love the remake of your sweater and I think I'll have to make one in Suri too.
Oh wow! Thank you! I’ve never won anything!!! Wow!!! GiGi's progress is terrific. Love the blanket.
I love crocheting with GiGi and I don't even crochet!!
The new color is lovely but looks very purple on my phone. Is that correct? Or is it more true pink?
It’s hot pink and turquoise!
Wow Gi gi you rock girl greetings from a granny in edinburgh Scotland
I LOVE Gigi’s blanket!!!! It makes me want to learn to crochet!!! Maybe I can convince my daughter (15) to learn to crochet and make it for me!!! I have too many knitting projects!!!
Thanks for a fun video!!😊
Love Gigi's progress on her blanket. Interesting video as usual, love the "accidental " colour yarn. 🇬🇧
Ohh Devin!! No worries I’ve just found episode 137…so will wait for the launch of pattern this September! Yay!! 🥳
I just love Gigi’s energy! She is very talented and seem to get it from her mother. So fun!
I LOVE Aug colors! Those are my colors. Now you need to add the blue to your lineup 🥰. I also love the one pot...

I love the colors Gigi chose for her blanket. I don’t really crochet, but it seems like the granny squares are having quite a moment.
Oh, my! That mint sweater is dreamy!!

Oppenheimer was a good but be warned!!! Has a sex scenes and nudity- disappointing since it had nothing to add to the story- 😖jus gratuitous.
I missed the fall yarn! It’s all sold out😫

Oh my gosh - now I need to hear this whole story!!!
That sounds like a fascinating show… I am going to look into to that! Thanks!

So now I need to go find the slothe bowl! If you block the flowers they will lay flatter. And if you lay something heavy on them they will be flatter still. Also, Gigi, I would only do a single or half double crochet border so not to take away from all the work on the flowers.
Looks like state fair cotton candy. Very pretty
Love your curls this morning.
Thank you! ❤❤❤
