Lots of sets missing here. And the base plates were so that they could use less pieces and it still be large and built up. This guy suggests they stopped using them because they used too much plastic which could have been used for parts, but it’s much cheaper to create a vacuum formed base plate than build up that volume with bricks, which is why even the biggest sets were far cheaper than today’s big sets. I do totally agree that they used to do fantastic small sets that were often some of my favourites.
I got the enchanted island set for Christmas in 1994, and it was one of the best presents of my life, so much so that I keep it as a treasure until this day. I was 9 years old and I played a lot with it along with my friends. I love those classic pirate sets.
When I was young in the late 80s I had several city, space and castle sets. I suppose that I wanted more and so I wrote a letter to Lego, asking them what new series would be next? One of my suggestions was pirates. Shortly thereafter, I was on a family trip to Europe and I was pleased to see pirates Lego in the stores. I convinced my parents to buy me a small set as a souvenir. Shortly thereafter, I started to see the same sets for sale back home in North America. The turnaround time between my letter and when the pirates series became available was too short for me to believe (even then) that they took my suggestion literally to heart; but I like to think that my letter gave them reason to think that these sets were a good idea. One item I got in Europe on that trip was the same comic discussed in this video. Since I bought it in Finland, the package came with both the Finnish and the English language comics. I also still have a handful of smaller pirate sets that are not shown in this video. 1481: Pirates Desert Island, 6235: Buried Treasure (which actually came part of a 4-set bundle), 6236: King Kahuka, and 6245: Harbour Sentry.
3:14, 3:17 and 3:37 - I have these two. Love the islanders' concept. Beautiful colours, very interesting theme and overall great sets. I used to drool over all of these sets, while watching the LEGO catalogues.
They are missing out on A LOT of sets actually. This collection amount to maybe 1/4 of the entire pirate line...not including "Pirates of the Caribbean" as that is it's own thing.
The nostalgia factor was so high in this video! I had so many of those sets as a kid! Another reason Lego stopped making the 3D baseplates was because they were flimsy and prone to breaking, and that's why they typically had little built on them because just by building on them you could break them, and if you tried to build something massive on them the weigbt of the bricks alone would begin to warp the baseplate over time. I miss having them because they were an efficient way to add topography to a build, but they were just too delicate to work with. If Lego were to reintroduce them I'd hope they'd make them thicker and more durable.
Dont know what you mean. I got 4 of them. And they are actually very stable. To break one of this you have to jump on it, or walk over it. But when you walk over things like this its you own foult.
The classic LEGO Pirates set were good sets with the older colors like Brown Light Gray and Dark Gray I wish they could return best colors ever in LEGO!
I noticed he only has the pirate cannons that can't fire. Lego had 2 cannons, ones that fire and ones that can't and america got the non firing ones because of restrictions
Oh wow I completely forgot about the Islanders I remember picking up a set of that when I was little definitely very beautiful detailed flag and designed for the canoes
I owned the two oldest pirate islands. Two christmas gifts (different years). Loved them. They were the biggest lego sets I owned. Sadly I never got a ship. 😕
No one set is complete with the correct bricks: missing sails, flags, minifigures, many bricks with wrong color... And there aren't "every sets ever made", many missing...
Well if you collect things like this, and set them up to a Show, you should check out to have everything right. Its not expencive to go, and buy the missing Bricks and Cannons.
Im getting my classic castle and pirates collection ready for a show. I literally have all of them. And that means all the correct pieces and minifigs.
I remember to this day when my parents got me the islanders island set. Its such a vivid memory and I spent over an hour building it, since I kept wanting to play with the figs, but I remember the statue being a very wanted piece to see when built and the mask of the chieftain. Aah, good memories. P.S. - I still have it and may build it out of nostalgia.
The lego company must seriously improve. They are creating sets that cant even be matched with these. The pirate sets in this video should be brought back to store shelves today. The simple sets they making today arent worth the money i wish these sets would come back. They are ten times better
I wish also the Pirate Theme would come back. With some cool Ships. But i heard that for todays Kids the Pirate Theme is more like a Childish Theme, who only little Children play with it. The older Kids like to play with Super Heros, and Movie Sets : (
Chaplain Agreed. As someone in my 20s I’ve very much moved on from LEGO and have absolutely no interest in all the modern series like Ninjago and whatever the other ones are. If they bought back all these old pirate sets though I would go out and buy everyone of them. All the original sets are either too expensive or too hard to find nowadays.
@@adronator Well it seems to be coming back now.... With Barracuda Bay(Which doubles as an island play set and updated Black Seas Barracuda combined....)
Minnion Annoyingly I held off buying it because I was watching my money and now it’s temporarily sold out. But otherwise this bodes well for LEGO Pirates. People are definitely voting with their wallets.
I'm aware this video is old but claiming this is every pirate set ever made / released is very misleading. Like others have pointed out in the comments below, a lot of smaller sets are no where to be seen here. Some of the smaller sets command some hefty prices nowadays it's insane. The other annoying thing here is the gentleman has a ton of missing parts or incorrect minifigs for all his sets on display. Hopefully we can eventually get a video of someone with an exact 100% collection at some point with accurate information.
Use a makeup brush to dust your sets. If dust is heavy, dismantle every set brick by brick, put them all in lukewarm water with DAWN dish soap. Soak for 20-30 mins. Scrub the pieces gently with a soft toothbrush. Rinse all pieces with lukewarm water through a colander then place pieces to let air dry overnight. If you have a fan, use that. Once you're done, your pieces will be like new ready for display. Use the make up brush to dust everything once a week. If you prefer keeping your minifig stiff, do no soak them in the soapy water. Doing so will make them loose. Passing the makeup brush gently over them a couple times will clean the minute dust particles without scratching the paint or plastic. Hope this helps! This is how I keep my vintage Pirate sets looking like new. Also, keep the white and light gray pieces away from direct sunlight. Good luck!
They made a couple Islander Collectible Minifigures, which look like updated versions of the 1994 ones, a Hula girl, and brown skinned Islanders in a Pirates of the Caribbean set.
I mean this should really be "every large set" as there's loads of medium and small pirates sets missing. Even I've got more than this, every set aside from a couple of absolutely tiny ones to 1993.
Can I call myself as lucky person, because few years ago, I bought 6286, 6256, 6262, 6264 and 6278 for 300 euros in one set. And only few pieces (5-10 pieces) from 6278 was missing/replaced.
Lego tried rebooting pirates twice and flopped, but they weren't the same at all. Look at the newer ships, the crossbone skulls on the sails look very childish. The buildings are small and too "modular?", because of the lack of a baseplate, they don't feel like proper bases at all. Though, the imperial flagship from 2010 is probably the best Pirate set ever released.
I really just love the older sets because it comes with base plates and it looks so much more complete

this set was amazing, well built and designed, but the islanders were less cool than pirates or soldiers imo, but still refreshing!

You know they mean classic pirates… right?… right?
6:00 "pity it will not be rebooted in any near future"......suddenly 2020: Pirates of Barracuda Bay :-)
Even the non-3D baseplates were great, like even those smaller pocket-money sets had their own little island baseplates, I wish Lego still did that...
He is missing 1 small pirate set. It was with small yellow island with two rocks and skeleton with treasure chest and 2 pirates with boat.
That would be 6254 Rocky Reef (1995). He's actually missing several others as well.
As a kid 3D baseplates were the most amazing thing ever. I only ever got I think 3 or 4.

Imperial Trading Post was my biggest set of my childhood.
I still have the blue and white sail pirate boat. First pirate boat released
I wish i could have just 1 Pirate ship
I noticed he only has the pirate cannons that can't fire.
Lego had 2 cannons, ones that fire and ones that can't and america got the non firing ones because of restrictions
oh the irony.... the country with the most guns per capita in the world forbids the use of a plastic toy cannon
This is great. Have like 6 of these sets from my childhood.
Forbidden Island brings back so many memories! I cut my teeth on the pirates theme and here I am, like 25 years later still loving lego!
That new intro is awesome!
Oh wow I completely forgot about the Islanders I remember picking up a set of that when I was little definitely very beautiful detailed flag and designed for the canoes
I remember my mother bought me Enchanted Island and I was so happy. I also had the Renegade Runner pirate ship (the small pirate ship). Good times
If only they bring the pirate set back for a revival
I Always thought the pirates were the good guys, my reasoning: the theme was named Pirates
They almost always got the cooler, bigger ship (except with the 2010 Imperial Flagship). The Lego Pirates didn't seem so bad.
I owned the two oldest pirate islands. Two christmas gifts (different years). Loved them. They were the biggest lego sets I owned. Sadly I never got a ship. 😕
Same here, my parents said the pirate ships were too expensive, haha. Can't complain, I had Forbidden Island and Sabre Island.
Awesome sets! Great video guys, Keep it up!
No one set is complete with the correct bricks: missing sails, flags, minifigures, many bricks with wrong color...
And there aren't "every sets ever made", many missing...
Ammiraglio Artic yup! Them new cannons do not look right!
Ammiraglio Artic he may be missing some but do you have all of them?
Well if you collect things like this, and set them up to a Show, you should check out to have everything right.
Its not expencive to go, and buy the missing Bricks and Cannons.

1:16, Renegade runner my beloved

Wooowww that's cool!
Wow amazing !!
Would like some recommendations for finding unopened sets.
i loved that pirates comic :) still have it^^ but the front page is missing^^
Memories...
🙂 Nice collection.

Just wait.
When LEGO is done milking "ninja's" with Ninjago, they will jump onto the pirate wagon with some other LSD induced stuff.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but he’s using the wrong cannons on those early sets - they didn’t have any motif on the barrel back then
The firing cannons were banned in the US, both kinds are technically correct for the sets
@@amannamed_8072 ah Americans :) thanks for the info!
I feel like I distinctly remember there being and Indiana Jones - Mummy type set that had the weird 3D base plate from the 2010s
You're thinking of the Pharaoh's Quest pyramid set with the raised baseplate. brickset.com/sets/7327-1/Scorpion-Pyramid
Nice video!
Enchanted island is the one of the best sets I think
What a fantastic collection.
He builded this cool thing thats a cool dude
I had a lot of the small pirate and imperial sets because you could get them for like 2 or 3 dollars if I remember correctly.
I love this video and I recognise a couple of the sets I got.

I love you guys
this makes me all kinds of jelly
I had some pirate stuff growing up, but I've never ever seen these sets and the sets I had aren't shown here.
I have almost all of these sets from the first wave of Pirate Lego. I've had real problems with the flags breaking, and keeping them clean. Any tips?
Listen to trikbrix he said that instead of clipping the flag onto the bar piece just slide them on.this puts little to no stress on the clips

@@MrGrumpy1834 Awesome, thank you!
They could never do an "islanders" theme now. The PC police would scream bloody murder.
They made a couple Islander Collectible Minifigures, which look like updated versions of the 1994 ones, a Hula girl, and brown skinned Islanders in a Pirates of the Caribbean set.

Cool sets
man, i remember those sets being much bigger lol. ah, time flies
Yeah me too
I love lego pirats
My favorite pirate minifigure is the first one from 1989 and the 80s to 90s with yellow skin!
brickblaster89 that sounds like every lego pirate
Every Pirate Minifig have yellow Skin.
The ones with Skin Coulor are from Copyrightet Movie based Sets.
What about the all the Ships and small boats?
ruclips.net/video/ySJb_WwlW_w/видео.html
Pirates Rule!
I always wanted them to make a classic LEGO pirates game. They made Pirates of Caribbean bnot my thing.
definitely NOT every lego pirates set EVER made! both pirate sets that I have are not here...
This guy is a bit of an amateur. He has alot but it is no where near complete enough to take to a show
i have skull island! ,my kids use the legos now :)
I love you forever lego
What if we combine all the ships I think its massive if we combine all the ships
3:18 !!! i still have this one!
Omg I got the tribal island and dreaming to get the big pirate ship... Love to see this again ☠
⚠
The reason is they are still rare that LEGO doesn’t want them to stop being rare and o
it will mess up anybody who sells them
Sah-bray Island!
Can I call myself as lucky person, because few years ago, I bought 6286, 6256, 6262, 6264 and 6278 for 300 euros in one set. And only few pieces (5-10 pieces) from 6278 was missing/replaced.
Cool
I want to know this man's location
I love legos and the older sets i have 3 huge tables at my house with my own lego city and battle parts. :D Love the brickcon
Сan't find many sets...6258 for example?
I want all there beutiful
I miss 3D baseplates.
😍😍😍😍
But you skipped best part, the ships :(

I had a missing piece in my lego pirate ship when i was 6-8 yrs old
So I didn’t get to finish it.
Goood 😍😍
Lul I wish I had this all but this really dank
