We need more RUclipsrs like you Greg! Perfect fix - clear and simple instructions, with no wasted filler content. Fixed my very same issue within minutes. Thank you. Subscribed and liked!
I watched a number of videos on reasons/fixes for the water and ice NOT dispensing from my refrigerator. When I saw this one I said to myself - "It couldn't be this easy" I was WRONG!!! This is exactly what was wrong with mine. The white wire had corroded and snapped off at the pin. I cut all of the wires from the connectors, soldered them together with the sequence indicated and I'm back in business. I haven't been able to dispense water or ice for over 6 months - it took all of about 20 minutes to get the tools, cut, solder, and turn the electricity back on. Saved a bundle of cash by not having to call a repairman!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!
This vid is 6 years old and just as valuable today. I just had this exact problem on my model of GE. This was the exact fix I needed. Saved me $115 from buying a controller I didn't need.
Thanks for your help Greg! Our in door dispenser was dead - no lights, no activity. First thought was, crap, gotta buy a new frig. Then I started looking for a new interface panel. Found out they are no longer made and very hard to find and over $100 if you do. Then I came across your YT video. Watched it, went to work on checking the connections at the bottom and they were a corroded mess! Got out my electrical tools, cut the power, snip, snip, added the heat shrink connectors, tape, put it all back together and BAM! Back in business! Thanks for sharing this fix!
My goodness you just saved us over $2,000 on us buying a new appliance package! Because we thought our refrigerator was unfix-able (we had an appliance repair guy come out and he said it was the motherboard and he had no parts to fix it). I really do like our refrigerator, but we were lead to believe it could not be fixed. My son followed your instructions and in less than an hour our refrigerator was fixed! We cannot thank you enough! Totally awesome video!
I had nothing working on my dispenser panel except for intermittent led lights. I cut out the corroded connector and spliced it back together as the video suggested. This straight forward video got me to the solution quick. Thanks :)
OMG!!! I had a GE technician come into my house and he charged me a fortune to change the "main board". I live in Brazil and everything related to electrical appliances, including replacement parts, costs a lot. I doubted the diagnostic. Called a non-brand tech. Another mis-diagnostic. This time, the guy said he would have to change the front panel (the one with the LEDs and buttons). Then I decided to search for the solution online and came across this life-saving video. My connector was all rusted. Actually, it was so rusted that one of the wires easily came loose. I was so happy to find this out but also outraged by the lack of knowledge and fair play on the part of the techs. Anyway, thank you very much for this. I ended up just connecting the wire without soldering.
My GE refrigerator isn't the same model as yours in the video, but basically the same connections behind the lower plastic panel. Thanks to your video, I went straight to the problem. The connector was corroded! Not as badly as your though, so I was able to avoid the cutting and resoldering of the wires. I cleaned up the individual connections to get as much of the corrosion off as I could. I then applied some moisture preventative dielectric lube to the connector and reconnected it. Problem solved! Total repair time was about 15 minutes. Thank You!!
Not sure why the design is like this, it didn't seem like my connector is sitting in water but the sleeve was wet. I'm guessing condensation from the interior to exterior transition? That's a bad design... Thanks for the video, I was going to start troubleshooting somewhere else but this is a good reminder to always check connections first!
Kudos to you, sir. I cleaned the connections. I did everything I could do just so that I would not have to cut and solder the wires, but in the end I had to do it exactly the way you suggested, and viola! It worked. Thank you so much. This video is as relevant today as it was 7 years ago.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! It's people like you that make RUclips such a great site. People helping others with their finds. Did the fix with single opening connector crimps (didn't feel like soldering), and all is running again, exactly as you described. Much obliged!
Greg, all I can say is Thanks! I only wish I would've seen your video before I bought a new board! When that didn't work, I thought I was up a creek, but you bailed me out with this video. So thanks again!
After weeks of troubleshooting and replacing the motherboard and display control board, this was exactly what was causing my problem. I'm sending the boards back. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! Excellent easy fix. Don't have solder iron so I used wire connectors. Did this because water stopped, ice stopped a year ago, thought I needed a bunch of parts. Now both are working
Thanks for your video Greg!!! I had the same issues but no broken pin in the connector. I decided to try spraying some DEOXIT contact cleaner in each connection as the pins looked a little corroded. Plugged the connection back in an no luck. A half hour later I pressed the dispenser and water sprayed out onto the floor. Yippie!! Fixed thanks to YOUR how to video 8 years ago👍👍
This Video was so so Helpful, I like others replaced the Board and dispenser switch and soloniod , This was a true bail out, I can not thank you enough and wish i could repay you for sharing your knowledge
GREG !!! Thanks mate !!! Just the little piece of information I could not find from all the others relevant videos on the subject, I was getting crazy checking voltages from the board to the soft touch panel on my GE, and all the problem was corrosion from the tiny connection at the bottom of the door !!! Thanks again, my GE is now dispensing as usual. In my case, instead of soldering the wires I tried first with a wire connector, and it worked 100%, so I insulated the area and voilá !!!
Great video, this solved my mysterious issue! My water was not working, press the button, it sounded like water was about to come out, but it doesn’t, seemed like frozen water line issue but it wasn’t, hav t had a frozen line since I branched off my reverse osmosis filter. The ice works, dispenses ice. If I disconnect water line coupler at the front bottom of fridge and press the button, water comes out, so something between the door and floor water line. Without any other options to try, I checked my wires as you outlined in video, no obvious corrosion, it it didn’t look great either. I crimped to blue with and black wire together with low voltage crimp connectors. The red and white I soldered together since I wasn’t sure if I could use the connectors with a wire that supplies power. After doing this, my water dispenser started working again! Great video!
Great video! My Step Son and his wife have a fridge like this that had the same problem. Thanks to this video, I got to go be the "hero" that fixed it! Thanks Greg!
Thank you! This was a huge help. The only surprise was the copper on my black wire was completely coated with a black residue and wasn't making a good connection initially. I needed to sand it to expose the copper then soldered and everything worked.
Nice video. My plug wasn't corroded but was just loose. Plugged it back in and it works again. But without your video, I wouldn't have had any idea of where to start looking thanks.
Thanks Bro!!! fixed it in 10 min, Ya a ton of goop from tray over flow, water running down door and right onto connection point... I used red crimp connectors and heat shrink !
Hi Greg, GREAT video!!! I had similar issue with my GE refrigerator. Just followed the steps and it got fixed. Thank you so much for sharing such video. It saved my money and time.
Thank You that was spot on, as you said because of condensation the little black connector on of the wires had moisture for years and was oxidized and broken, I cut off connector and used sta-kon wire nuts to remake connection. 30 minute repair saved a wad of dollars.
It is a good video with the right diagnostics for the ice and water dispenser problem. However, I would not have soldered the wires together like this. I would get new electrical connectors similar to the old connector or any three wire connectors and install the wires into them instead, making sure that the wires from one connector would go to the right wires on the other connector. When you done putting the wires into the new connectors, you can just plug them back together. Of course, a large heat shrink tube over the connector would prevent future corrosion. There is a reason that GE engineers designed the wiring to be replaceable, doing this will prevent you from replacing the wiring in the future.
GE GSCS3KGYAFSS. Mine was just wet, all pins were intact. I cleaned everything with CRC QD Electronic Cleaner, put some Super Lube 21030 Synthetic Grease in the connector, then heat shrinked it. Good as new. Video was awesome, thank you!
Good video Greg ! Have several of these in the apartments, same prob, GE admits to the failure and warranty covers the problems... They basically replace the harness and recheck the function as you did, but using updated factory parts.. Cool to see your fix, they should use your solution in the field IMHO Take care brother !
Yeah... I think I'm past the warranty... I've had the unit for 10+ years. I think my fix is probably more permanent than their replacement parts. I'd hate to be the dude fixing these in the field rolling around among the lost cheerios and other crap that has dripped out of refrigerators.
Absolutely! Figured I'd be replacing the board etc, when its just that cheesy plug connector down at the doors power supply. Gave me a good opportunity to clean the unit. Thanks Greg.
Hey Greg, I had the same exact issue. No butt connectors or shrink wrap. With a little duct tape and swear words my fridge is back in business. Thanks!
Glad I found this video. That plug was exactly my problem. It’s a poor design IMO. Water gets into the black sheath that protect the wires running up the door and runs right into the plug. I crimped on some quick connect plugs, cut the black sheath back to about 2” before it enters the door and made a drip loop. Should be good till the fridge dies lol
Hey Greg, we had the same problem with a refrigerator with no power to the ice maker display panel. I followed your instructions and they worked beautifully. Although my soldering was not nearly as good as yours. However, now when we use the water or ice feature, the ice/water dispenser won't stop. I had to unplug the refrigerator temporarily to stop the dispenser. Did I screw something up or does something else need to be repaired or replaced? (GE Profile Artica) Thanks, paul
Thx so much. I was about to order a new circuit board. Decided to check wires and bingo. Took 10 min and now I have ice and water again!! Thanks again! U DA MAN!!!
Nice fix. Its nice being able to teouble shoot things. It seems like anything they build thse days they dont take in consideration about water and stuff. Thats like my brand new santa fe it flooded out the passenger footwell this week because the ac drain tube was cloged from the factory.
Yeah, I'd figure ANY connector on an appliance that has water or condensation on it would be waterproofed. I guess that would add $.05 to the cost of manufacture, so they don't do it.
Like my hyundai they must of put the ac drain tube on and didn't pop the plastic cover.since day one if the ac had to work hard my windows would be fogged up almost like when a heater core goes bad. I googled it and allot of people had the same issue.other then that its a great truck.
Hey Greg, great video! I have a CFCP1RKBASS - the ice and water dispensers don't work, BUT the lights in the freezer and refrigerator don't work either. I noted your point that the light switch fed power to the dispenser. So would going to that same connector be a good starting place? Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
The method of thawing it out to get the water flowing and then get some styrofoam and HVAC silver tape works great. Cut out two pieces of styrofoam, one for the angled part and one for the vertical part on the back of the dispenser(inside freezer) tape it up and you are good to go. I did this method and it's 3 weeks and still working. Send me a message and I'll walk you thru it, have a photo as well.
I can't seem to get my connectors apart. Mine are black on left going up and a smokey cream on right for power. Tried press and pull but wouldn't come lose. Don't want to cut just yet connection looks clean. I get ice and I know I get water to the coupling, just wont go up to spout. Yesterday water worked, today no water. Any thoughts GE Profile. Great video BTW.
I'll be honest, I thought the problem with your connector was likely an isolated incident. But before I shelled out $100 for a new PCB I figured what the hell, I'll take a look. I'll be damned if that wasn't the problem with mine too. Thanks man!
Hello Greg hey i have a 4 year old frigidaire gallery it dispenses water but sometimes it won't stop and I have to turn the controls off. Do you think is the board or maybe the thing you push with the glass getting stuck. What can I do?
I purchased a used PFE29PSDASS fridge. Just hooked up the water line. It's not making ice. Water is fine. Any suggestions? Do I have to wait 24-48 hours as suggested with other brands?
I had to do this very same job a few years back.... only difference was, a mouse ran out when I took the apron off!..... it freaked me out, made me jump and scream like a girl and stuck myself in my arm with the screw driver! .......... Good Job!
Your video was great. I just used the syringe and in a half minute the water came out. My husband was very impressed. However, before I tried your method, I tried the hair dryer method. It wasn't stated to keep the hair dryer a couple of inches away from the spout. Now the water is coming out on an angle towards the floor or me, instead of in the glass. I am thinking maybe the water spout (or whatever it is called) melted or got damaged some. I looked at it and it looks angled like a part of it melted. Can that be replaced? I have the side by side refrigerator.
What if my ice maker works and ice dispenser works, water makes it to the filter, but, I suddenly get no water coming out of the dispenser? Stone cold nothing. It worked fine this morning, but not this afternoon. Sounds to me like a switch specific to the water has gone bad, but is that possible?
Seems very odd, and obviously the plug already disconnected means he'd already been poking around under there. Corrosion and the displaced single plug connect do not cause the entire plug to separate suddenly. Maybe this could occur, and cause the issue, but it might be advised to coat the plug fittings with an electrical anti-corrosive material to both ease the plug-in, and prevent corrosion again.
OK so here's the post fix brief: 1. On my fridge the wires were short so I didn't have much room to strip wire like in the video. 2. Soldering was not possible. Plan B was I crimpt M+F connectors. 3. The new connection is no more exposed the the original. 4. It's up and tucked in and off the floor.
Oh no! Greg your videos are awesome and informative--thanks for that, but in your intro it looks like you're rocking out in a kU beanie. Are these videos safe for Mizzou fans to watch?
Its totally safe... With MU and KU in different conferences everything is good. We just have to agree that discussions about dominance during the 90's is a off limit topic! :D Norm is still the 'villian' that I most love to hate... He made the rivalry so much fun... When Quinn came in a drove the bball program into the ground, the rivalry went into a dormant state... I miss it... I just broke my own rule didn't I???

Thanks, Greg! I was just about to change the solenoid when I came across your video. Nailed it! Saved me at least $50.
Thanks brother! I thought there wasn't a single system on this refrigerator I hadn't touched, but you showed me a fix for the new problem. Great job.
👊

You saved me hundreds of dollars and time. It was such an easy and fast fix. Thanks for posting and helping out. You’re awesome!!!
I couldn’t believe this was my problem but it was and this was the fix it needed! The corrosion of the connector was the issue. Thanks!
Doesn't seem likely, but it's the most common issue out there.
GREG !!! Thanks mate !!! Just the little piece of information I could not find from all the others relevant videos on the subject, I was getting crazy checking voltages from the board to the soft touch panel on my GE, and all the problem was corrosion from the tiny connection at the bottom of the door !!! It's definitely the magic. I don't usually do appliance repairs on my YT channel, but I thought this one was worth sharing. Cheers!

Thanks for posting the fix. I used heat shrink butt connectors that worked very well and saved some soldering.
Glad it helped.
YOU ARE A STUD! My husband's an electrician (also a stud), had all the stuff, and fixed it in minutes! Thank you ;)
Thanks Greg for video. It was my exact problem. A no cost repair.
Dude you saved my day I had the exact same problem and fixed it right away!
Thank you so much! Solved my problem! Much appreciation! And this video was seven years old for a quick fix in 2021
Nice video. My plug wasn't corroded but was just loose. Plugged it back in and it works again. But without your video, I wouldn't have had any idea of where to start looking thanks.
Took about 20 min. Everything's back to normal. Thank you!
Thank you very much
I was able to fix it in 30 minutes
You are a real genius
Thank you for the repair video. I was able to diagnose and repair my water/ice dispenser after watching it.
+Jaya Chandra Mouli Setti Awesome!
Thank You that was spot on, as you said because of condensation the little black connector on of the wires had moisture for years and was oxidized and broken, I cut off connector and used sta-kon wire nuts to remake connection. 30 minute repair saved a wad of dollars.

Thanks for the help. I had different symptom, where the display and turning on and off. I was able to fix it with the solution provided.
It is a good video with the right diagnostics for the ice and water dispenser problem. However, I would not have soldered the wires together like this. Thanks for this excellent video. This exact problem happened on my GE Profile refrigerator and I fixed it in 40 minutes. Thanks!
Right on! This video is an oldie but a goodie. Amazing the same issue has been around well over a decade.
Thanks for the help! Got mine fixed in no time! Wasted a day looking for new harnesses.
Awesome, you nailed it for us, and in 20 min. went from "Dad what happened" :( to "Hey, Dad it works AGAIN" :) Thanks
👊👊👊
Good video Greg !
Have several of these in the apartments, same prob, GE admits to the failure and warranty covers the problems...
They basically replace the harness and recheck the function as you did, but using updated factory parts..
Cool to see your fix, they should use your solution in the field IMHO
Take care brother !
Yeah... I think I'm past the warranty... I've had the unit for 10+ years. I think my fix is probably more permanent than their replacement parts. I'd hate to be the dude fixing these in the field rolling around among the lost cheerios and other crap that has dripped out of refrigerators.
This was the exact problem with mine. Took 15 minutes to fix! Thanks a bunch for posting this!
Thank you so much. Just had the same problem. Took me less than 40 minutes to get it done.
my trick ever. just reconnected it. mine is not corroded or anything. just loose. thanks a lot.
I appreciate you making this video! I had the same corroded connection on my fridge!!!
Greg. You are frickin awesome! That was my issue. I was ready to order a solenoid. Thanks man!
Awesome!!! That's why I make videos.
Thank you for the video, I was able to fix my refrigerator.
Absolutely! Figured I'd be replacing the board etc, when its just that cheesy plug connector down at the doors power supply. Gave me a good opportunity to clean the unit. Thanks Greg.
Awesome man! Glad this helped!
Hey Greg, I had the same exact issue. No butt connectors or shrink wrap. With a little duct tape and swear words my fridge is back in business. Thanks!
The duct tape probably got you 90% of the way there... The 4 letter words pushed you over the finish line!
Nice work Greg, I have a twin to that soldering iron works great
My ice works but not the water. Think this is worth trying?

Greg, YodaMan! Same white cable problem; Did your fix. Bada bing. Thank You
Thanks much I know this is a n old post but ours was corroded, by passed the connecters working great!

Worked perfectly. Wish I would have watched this before buying new control electrical panel for $80
Sweet! My GE is doing the same thing, going to check that connection. Great vid.
Dude, you just saved me a bunch of money. Thank you!
👊👊👊
Thanks for the video. It made my repair very easy.
The method of thawing it out to get the water flowing and then get some styrofoam and HVAC silver tape works great. Cut out two pieces of styrofoam, one for the angled part and one for the vertical part on the back of the dispenser(inside freezer) tape it up and you are good to go. LOL! Yep. A few years of drips and it will happen to just about everyone.
great my my problem is a frozing line....defrost and is froze again...any quick fix? isolation on the back? temp for freeze is 0F...as recommended!
Your fix was spot on. THANK YOU!
Thank you! Did exactly what you did and it fixed the problem!!!
Thanks for your time! This helped fix my GE PSS26SHRC
Thank you so much!!!! I now have water.... but no ice yet, fingers crossed
Done and done. Thanks for your post. Very helpful.
Awesome! Glad it worked for you.
Perfect! 5 minutes and it was back up
Thank you for sharing!
Hello Greg hey i have a 4 year old frigidaire gallery it dispenses water but sometimes it won't stop and I have to turn the controls off. Do you think is the board or maybe the thing you push with the glass getting stuck. What can I do?
Greg's Appliance Repair.
Great video buddy. :-)
Well deserved drink of water at the end! Good fix.
Thanks Rich!
Thank you!! just fixed my fridge!!
👊👊👊
I purchased a used PFE29PSDASS fridge. Just hooked up the water line. It's not making ice. Water is fine. Any suggestions? Do I have to wait 24-48 hours as suggested with other brands?
Thank you, solved my problem
I had to do this very same job a few years back.... only difference was, a mouse ran out when I took the apron off!..... it freaked me out, made me jump and scream like a girl and stuck myself in my arm with the screw driver! .......... Good Job!
LOL! I would have done the same thing.
Nice fix... my exact fridge but I have a different problem and am trying to figure out how to disassemble the dispenser in the door...
GO SLOW! Those plastic parts are killers.
I have the side by side refrigerator.
thanks for sharing this video man it helps a lot to fix mine 👍
sou tecnico em refrigeração, não falo ingles ,mais este video me ajudou muito , obrigado brother
So my GE fridge dispensor works, but needs flomax for it's weak stream and I can't find a video for that, would it be this same connection mod?
Rewired and works perfect....thanks
What if my ice maker works and ice dispenser works, water makes it to the filter, but, I suddenly get no water coming out of the dispenser? Stone cold nothing. It worked fine this morning, but not this afternoon.
Sounds to me like a switch specific to the water has gone bad, but is that possible?
Excellent video! Thank you
Seems very odd, and obviously the plug already disconnected means he'd already been poking around under there. Corrosion and the displaced single plug connect do not cause the entire plug to separate suddenly. Maybe this could occur, and cause the issue, but it might be advised to coat the plug fittings with an electrical anti-corrosive material to both ease the plug-in, and prevent corrosion again.
You left out the part where the smoke form the flux goes straight into your eyeball.
Nice job he cried. hehehe
LOL! I've learned that lesson before.
Thanks. My connector was on the top hinge..it came loose. Thanks for video..
OK so here's the post fix brief:
Nice repair, now if you could just get it to dispense beer LoL
LOL! I'll be I could get that to work.
