4:24 This man really adjusted the drum mic with his left hand mid-song and never missed a beat. Had to slow it down to .25 to see it! Amazing work, loving every bit.
I believe it was on his Sabian artist profile that I read that Gavin is one of his prime influences! Certainly not surprising at all. It also mentioned that his favorite record that he did NOT play on was In Absentia!
When ever I wanna watch a drummer do his thing in perfection, I just have to come to this video. It is sheer incredible, and perfect. I cant get enough of this song!
It's simply amazing to me how he apparently leads every song with his drums - everything else, vocals guitars etc is fascinatingly good, but it wouldn't be half as good as it is without this man behind the drums, it's just beyond words
Compositionally one of the best drummers ever in my opinion. So orchestral in style. Fits the music perfectly. And that my friends is the most important thing as a drummer period! Then add to that the fact that he is also extremely talented skill wise as well. Almost makes me want to quit instead I try harder
The prog genre has some of the most talented and technically inclined drummers available in the world. Jay Postones, Gavin Harrison, Mike Portnoy and Baard Kolstad just to name a few. Amazing what these guys achieve with their instrument. I am in total aw!!!
Being a musician/songwriter means coming to terms with the fact that you're just a collection of all the musicians/songwriters that influenced you throughout your life. Every once in a while a band like this comes along that kickstarts a desire to imitate whatever it is they're doing differently from everybody else. That's not what I truly desire, but now my head is churning with ideas. It would be nice to meet a drummer this talented to achieve some of these incredibly complex grooves I need in my life. I dabble with drums, but guitar is where I hang my hat. Not having an incredible drummer by my side is like having an untapped potential. If anybody loves metal and plays drums anywhere near the level this guy does hmu. Maybe we can make something happen. Much respect to Baard of course. Absolutely love what you do.
There is such jealousy, envy, admiration, etc here and all at the same time - inspiration! My brain can not comprehend how someone accomplishes such greatness!
I only recently discovered your work (through Leprous), and along side such amazing musicians instantly made me a fan. As a fellow drummer, your tasty and unique approach to the art gave me a renewed sense of inspiration. Keep it up, I'll be around to hear it for as long as I can. Rock on!
True story. It's like we're all drummees. We can break it down and learn it. But it also seems like an impossible mountain to climb too. Lol. Drumming is a fickle love
@@griegs2001 I am positive he does. My nephew is doing musical school, and Baard is stopping by as a one on one guest lecturer now and then. Awesome guy.
1:20 god DAMN that fill into the chorus uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh I've been trying to learn 2:10 to 2:48 there's just SO MANY things happening at once and right after the other. Different combination of rudiments with flams and accents jesus christ 4:14 THE REVERSE FILL AAAAAAAAAH so fkn good This man has complete mastery of drumming. Drums 100.
Man, your doing flams in your playing inspired me to be more creative on the drums and think about (and practice) my rudiments more. I am doing flams a lot more now and it sounds awesome around the kit.
It’s in 7/4 all throughout. It’s super hard to hear but once you get it, it’s definitely there. Idk how the hell Baard came up with this crazy convoluted enigma of a drum part, but holy fuck it works
Remember that game we played in primary school where we wiggled a pencil and said it was made out of rubber? Thanks for the high frame rate capture for giving us rubber drum sticks.
Hi Baard,Just saw you live in Stuttgart. Amazing. Great Show!!!!Love Leprous... Music with heart and soul. Greets from Mannheim Germany Klaus and Christine
Honestly man, you have been the breath of fresh air I have needed! Awesome style in an awesome band and amongst the flawless technical finesse, you have this real organic power that kinda reminds me John Theodore from The Mars Volta! You're very quickly becoming my favourite drummer! Keep it up!!! :D
Feckin' hell, man. I loved this song already, but I have a brand new respect for it, and you as a drummer. I can't wait to hear the new Leprous songs. Hopefully that'll be soon, cause I'm about to pull a Cartman and freeze myself on a mountain or something.
Baard: Ok guys, I have an idea. I'ma play a drum solo, but in rhythm with the song you're all playing, and we'll call the song Moon. Band: Like Keith Moon? Baard: Yes? Band: Dope, let's do it
Being this skilled should not be legal
mdr
That incidental tom hit at 4:04 makes me fucking nut
It is not !
copy that
This song has lead drums and rhythm everything else
Yeah that's a great way to describe it
Yeah, right! The synths and the guitars are swimming around and the drums hold it all together.

Yep, he learned from the Master
This was actually the very first song I listened from Leprous. I felt in love instantly.
Mine was the price and damn i love the hi-hat in that song
Moon for me too, this video actually! I started playing drums thanks to this one.
There is a wonderful amount of Gavin Harrison going on here :). Great playing!
Gavin and Matt Garstka even more so!
Yes there is!

Best young drummer in the best young band in the world if you ask me! (also my fav Leprous song)
Same
My fave too.
This band is operating on an entirely different plane to anyone else. Stunning, absolutely stunning. And Baard is the crown jewel.
Not sure if this is playthrough or drum solo
Tone it down man, you're making me not appreciate my other favorite drummers.
And he's only 24.
One of the best songs on the album. Love the unorthodox groove. Wish the snare sounded more like this on the album
The most unique and exciting drummer right now. Easily.
he is one of the most, try danny carey, TOOL
@@magnusthepagan it's unfair to compare Danny Carry to mortals.

@@hugorezende199 how is this a relatively new band
The drum track in this song makes me think of a waterfall: beautiful and chaotic.
It feels like it's "alive" if that makes sense. It can take different forms every live performance. It feels fluid and liquid like.
The technical side is magnificent. The composition is magnificent. The level of feeling is magnificent. What a sticksman! 😮
it's technical, but still has a groove to follow without being a mess.
When ever I wanna watch a drummer do his thing in perfection, I just have to come to this video. It is sheer incredible, and perfect. I cant get enough of this song!

The song are so powerful emotionally and Baard nails it very beautiful to put more dramatic in this song. What a talented guys all of you..

I've never seen anything like that before (except for baard playing live). This guy is a musical genius...
Incredible work!!! I cant end the video without replaying 5:44 over thousand times , cant get it enough it just superb !!
The whole thing's amazing, but that mixup on the lead-in brought me to climax, and as a hetero male that's terrifying 🤣
5:44 and his interchange was life changing
Could listen to this on loop all day!! Give chills everytime!!

He is indeed supernatural! Have you heard Gavin Harrison?

Have you ever heard Sean Reinert?

Yeah exactly. That's what I love about this song, its rhythm is so unorthodox that Baard can mould it to his liking every time he performs it
