Yeah that pretty much says it all. Dude has serious fucking chops. Playing in 2 of the most creative extreme bands on the planet. That alone puts this dude in some serious company.
he deserves no less than a ultra high quality band , with great musicians , bringing new sounds to the world :D I hope the best for this damn charismatic kid
Actually this is one of the best solo's I've heard, he keeps them running smooth and interesting unlike couple of world class professionals I've seen and heard. And his fills are insane.
I remember watching this video like 10 years ago when I first started drumming and thinking "what an awesome drummer". Crazy to see him older now playing on major festivals around the world in front of massive audiences, well deserved! Bard rules!
Its not so much about the money, as its only the money of one day. I think it's more about the drums. They must be worth far more. In any case, good thinking of the guy.
Of course it's only fitting his first serious contribution would be on the congregation 4 years later. One of the most masterful prog rock albums this century, and IMO leprouses finest work at their peak.
Yeah he's the drummer, but he's also the whole band. Not only that, but he won the Roland V-Drums World Championship last year. This is no ordinary drummer, he's a rythmical genius.I've seen him myself in Oslo, and he's just wicked.
I fell in love with leprous at the same time I was watching these videos. One of the most ecstatic moments I’ve had for music when I found out he was joining my new favorite band. Going to be one of the best drummers of our time. Amazing
Haha how you can tell this is Norway. Awesome drummer just belting hellfire out of his set and not a headbob in sight. I'm sure the crowd appreciates it, but we Norwegians aren't exactly the best in the world at emoting, are we? :D
Maybe because it's rude to interrupt him or the crowd by walking in front of him in the middle of his performance. What most people do is listen until he's finished, and then give him money (watch the last 10 seconds of the video closely ;) )
No its not only the best drummer in Norway. Its also one of the best in the world. He was picked out as 1 out of 10 from the whole world to compete at Roland v-drum contest in2012 and he won.
@@MalFunktion2024 Honestly he's not that far up. He's definitely in the range of being one of the most, if not the most influencal prog metal drummers out there. It's hard to put a definitive of "THE BEST" because every drummer ever has some own special flavor to them. But Baard Kolstad's complex playing has gotten him far and I wouldn't think people saying he's one of the most technical drummers out there today would be wrong. This is 7 years ago aswell. He's currently in Leprous.
Akro2000 That is true, this guy has the technique so he probably won't burn that many but some metal drummers and other in some bands that likes to move with their arms alot does get some exercise(Especially their deltoids)
Recently got in to Leprous and this video popped up while watching some of Baard's drum playthroughs. Funny to think that i saw this all those years ago having no idea who this was, and now I've come full circle lol
I did a drum solo in downtown omaha and the cops confiscated my drums. Me and my friend had to sneak it out of the police van and into his truck and then we ended up going to spaghetti works :D
What's happened to drummers these days? It was a decent display of technique but I felt like a goldfish! Every 30 seconds he slaps the groove out of me and goes onto something else. Good drummer, not very great. And before all you people shit on my head, I actually am a drummer, and I can play better than this. Good on him for getting out there with his shit though.
TheCanadianGrape OH! so you won the international championship in drumming? Please tell me more of how you are better than him. you saying you are better than him is like saying i run faster than usain bolt
I do not know who you are. I have not seen you run. Nothing's to say you can't run faster than Usain. Some people spend their lives worshiping made up Gods. You have not heard me drum. Take your inferior taste and sarcastic retorts elsewhere.
Okay, finally saw it to the end. I don't if he's the best in Norway or not, but he is among the best for sure. About 55% of the way through, he got a little tired, but pulled it out of the fire and blasted through to the end. Great street performance and I'd hire him in a second for a band. If I was rich I'd toss a couple hundred dollars in his hat.
I must say, it's realy rare and inpressiv to have that big of an audience in oslo. Think I have never seen sutch big group of people watch a street performer in oslo :S
And this guy is playing for Leprous and Borknagar now
Don't forget Rendezvous Point!
Who the "H" are they ?
Yeah that pretty much says it all. Dude has serious fucking chops. Playing in 2 of the most creative extreme bands on the planet. That alone puts this dude in some serious company.
brad nichols : googling!!!
The Appeal to the Norwegian people about election.Appeal till det Norchke filk om valnet.I am a videoblogger.
I can see this pal playing for the best bands out there in a near future.
this comment aged well
Nailed it tbh lol
I told all friends to buy apple stock in 2007 ... ;) Check this...
Yeah Leprous !!!!
indeeeed
His mom: GO PLAY OUTSIDE!!!!!
Him: ok!
Watch in 2011: "Yeah buddy, when you are all grown up maybe"
Watching in 2020: "The early beginnings of one of the best drummers of our time"
He's in the amazing Norwegian band Leprous. You're welcome.
Look up johnkew cover of the price....AMAZING
Now he's with the insanely awesome progressive metal band "Leprous" Can't wait to hear their next album and how Baard sounds on it!
I promise I'm not stalking you...
After seven years and coming from seeing Leprous with the Aphelion tour twice, I can say: He sounds pretty damn good :)
It gaves me chills when people gives him money. Really really amazing drumming.
Dude's in Leprous now :p
René vergaseca
Many years later this is still one of the sickest drum performances ever captured on film.
he deserves no less than a ultra high quality band , with great musicians , bringing new sounds to the world :D I hope the best for this damn charismatic kid
Leprous. He's insane.
This aged very well!
Actually this is one of the best solo's I've heard, he keeps them running smooth and interesting unlike couple of world class professionals I've seen and heard.
And his fills are insane.
Watching this drum solo after 8 years and the guys still kicks ass 😌👌🏼
I remember watching this video like 10 years ago when I first started drumming and thinking "what an awesome drummer". Crazy to see him older now playing on major festivals around the world in front of massive audiences, well deserved! Bard rules!
and now he is playing in many great bands. so young and so talented...
Top left corner, that guy is always in his videos lol. On the same bike, with the same glasses, this kid's got some top notch security.
+blahblahooooooooblah If someone steals his money he can ride up on them, surprised more street performers don't hire people like that
Its not so much about the money, as its only the money of one day. I think it's more about the drums. They must be worth far more. In any case, good thinking of the guy.
he is a professional drummer aswell
Oh yea it might actually be for the bike trailer he's using for the drums
Haha hahahah so you’re saying the dude on the bike is his personal bodyguard?! 😂😂
Having meet Baard, seen several concerts with Leprous and his Drumworkshop, he is an amazing drummer and guy!!
Of course it's only fitting his first serious contribution would be on the congregation 4 years later. One of the most masterful prog rock albums this century, and IMO leprouses finest work at their peak.

Who watches this in 2k19? After the Leprous was found for you
lol it looks like macklemore is in the back on the bike
lol
lmao
he is Macklemore :D
Norbert Schmidt he is not form Norway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I searched far and wide to find this video. I almost forgot about Baard. He inspired me to play more as a kid.
3:07 Extreme drummer mode on.
I like the way, in Norway, there are insane drummers just rippin' it up on the streets. 😆
This is Awesome Baard, i Really Hope You Do More Drum Solo's Out In the Street, For Awesome 2016 You Rock Baard.
AWESOME is not good enough to describe him. He's amazing.
dura
Haha how you can tell this is Norway. Awesome drummer just belting hellfire out of his set and not a headbob in sight. I'm sure the crowd appreciates it, but we Norwegians aren't exactly the best in the world at emoting, are we? :D
That is the legend.
In most german cities, you would be surrounded by police in 2 minutes.
that sucks
Fletcher was there in the crowd
This is definitely his tempo.
I remember about this vid,and I knew he would be famous. Greetings from Italy
I swear if this dude had a metal band
This comment has agreed exceptionally well
@@bowietwombly5951 aged you mean :P
too fucking brilliant!!!!!!!!!
he izz one of d bst drumer i had evr seeen luv ur drumng
If a street performer makes you stop for a moment, you owe that performer a buck. Either way, most of the crowd just stand there ;_;
they dont give him money becose its to laud going close to the drums
my english isnt very god
Maybe because it's rude to interrupt him or the crowd by walking in front of him in the middle of his performance. What most people do is listen until he's finished, and then give him money (watch the last 10 seconds of the video closely ;) )
i think that the peformer doesnt do that for just money but to have fun and to entertain the people and that is what street peformance is
***** Good point.
I can't do this, give me my beer back
You're a good man Baard Kolstad!!! And a damn good drummer to boot.
Give the man some credits. People just stand there. I would have just dropped my wallet in that box, gj!
They started giving money after the show was over.
I would've dropped my panties in that box! 😂
from 3:09 till the end it´s really f´n awesome ! :D
this dude actually is the greatest
First I was like " oh only 15 people watching him play" then at the end "OH SHIT THE WHOLE FCKIN TOWN IS THERE".
Ben Phillips IM SAYINGGGGG THIS MY FIRST TIME WATCHING THIS
That look at 0:40 - whoa, nice girls, got to impress them.
No its not only the best drummer in Norway. Its also one of the best in the world. He was picked out as 1 out of 10 from the whole world to compete at Roland v-drum contest in2012 and he won.
That last part o.0
2019?
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH My GOD, that was amazing. And I am very glad to say that this boy is now the drummer for the also amazing band, Leprous.
"Best in Norway"??? Could be the best (period).
you are dreaming

Oh wait... Samba? Really? Hahaha Samba in Norway, by a Nordic drummer, damn...! And that sounds really good, btw
Amazing drummer.. u just .... awesome dude...no words ..... great
How many calories do you burn while drumming like that? XD
a lot
yeah, I figure he'll exercise enough for a week doing this for a day xD
I disagree because you're boring as fuck to watch and lack good feel.
Akro2000 That is true, this guy has the technique so he probably won't burn that many but some metal drummers and other in some bands that likes to move with their arms alot does get some exercise(Especially their deltoids)

I can tell you what this drummer needed... More Cowbell.
ask : what time signature do you play?
baard : yes.
0:25 id pay more money if that guy in the back would go in fromt of the drums and do that dance all day long :D
Needs more cowbell
cool stuff - love this guy!! great work!!
Cheesy beats, but his time is very good.

Please dude form a metal band
His with Leprous now, a mind-blowing Progressivve Metal band. You definitely should give them a listen!
Also Borknagar
Excellent playing. Would love to visit Norway sometime...
Respect from the United States of America :)
You should visit, many exciting things to see and do here!😁
Senere denne dagen fikk han alle damene xD
Oh fuck ..... and i thought i was very good at drums xD
same thoughts brah
You can still be good even if your level of technicality may not be as high as Baard's.
yh i am but more in speed, like i can blastbeat and play doubblebase at 240 bmp xD and im just playing 3 years now.
Great drumming & performance. Awesome!
Not quite my tempo.

that's coz it's a solo... he's gotta fit a bit of everything in there... give people a taste of everything.
TheCanadianGrape OH! so you won the international championship in drumming? Please tell me more of how you are better than him. you saying you are better than him is like saying i run faster than usain bolt

TheCanadianGrape "Some people spend their lives worshiping made up Gods. You have not heard me drum." Dude, you're my hero.
Well, he is actually in a band and does live drumming for several other. So I dunno, what band are you in?
WOW! Really enjoyed that!
Heavy and musical, love it. Wish you were in my band!
I met him backstage tonight, after a great show. Cool guy.
Bravoooo!!!! Greetings from Venezuela Man!!!
speechless before my computer - great job man!!!!
Very nice! Very cool rudiments to move around the kit!
That last bit was mind blowing.
Some of the best drumming I've heard. Love your style. Keep jammin'.
Awesome guy!!!! Great work!!!
Love the beats man. Good job.

Amazing drumming seriously.
Must move back to Scandinavia.
I always get so nostalgic for that place.
it feels like he is staring into my soul...once seen cannot been unseen haha!
This guy is in a band now. Check them out! They're called Borknagar. Progressive black metal.
Holy shit! Didn't expect that crowd at the end!
Really good! Thanks for uploading!
Amazing!! 🤘
THE Baard from Leprous?!
Awesome Drum solo. By Baard Kolstad.
