Clipper Blade Sharpening

- Here's another video, detailing my process when sharpening hair clipper blades. I try to explain the geometry behind clipper blade sharpening, and what leads to a blade becoming dull. Clipper blades that are sharpened correctly will produce a consistent cut every time, and with the correct sharpening pattern, the edge will last longer. As a business owner, I have to not only consider how sharp the blades are, but also how long the blades will last for our customers before becoming flat (dull). This is why the hollow shape is important. Feel free to comment below and I'll respond to any questions you have.

Best explanation I've encountered. Recently a friend asked me to try to sharpen her dog clippers and I used wet-and-dry paper on a mirror - 800, 1200 and 2000 grit. I did a great job, but ... the blades don't cut. This video explains why. Thanks so much. Luckily my friend has new blades coming.
Great detail in your explanation, and you're able to express technical information in simple terms which is super helpful. Thanks for making these videos.
You are welcome I'm glad it was easy to understand. And thank you for watching
I have literally been pulling my hair out trying to sharpen these clipper blades, so much wasted time. Thanks to your video I think I finally understand why what im doing is not working.
No problem I'm glad I could help and thank you for watching
Saludos! Una pregunta, como consigo el hijo con que pruebas las cuchillas? O como se llama para comprarlo!
Awesome video, great job. That totally explains why after I sharpened my blades (3 dog grooming blades) they only cut for like 10 seconds before pulling hair. I did flat stone sharpening, and I apparently took the hone out of them.
Hello. Sorry to hear that but im glad my video helped you understand. I have a better video explain why a block last for a very short time at ruclips.net/video/b4KkHdJN8dI/видео.html
Has anyone used the flat side of that plate with hook and loop sandpaper somehow to sharpen scissors? I'm looking into buying an arm with convex clamp to try
Where do you get that spinning metal wheel used to sharpen the blades? Do they have them at the end of isle 14 in Home Depot or must I go over to the tool rental section? Much appreciated:)
Our wheels are custom machined.
Did you put oil on the sharpener
I use different plates with different binding agents depending on the application. Basic oil is not used.
Hello, I want to make a query about a 7F whal blade that does not cut me. I sharpened it twice and it still remains uncut. the tensioner is very tight, change the cutting and the tensioner and remain the same without cutting. What can I do?
Hello. A flat block will never sharpen your blade. Blades are not flat they have shape to them. You'll need to get it professionally sharpened to work correctly.
Hey whats pricing for clipper blades & also do you adjust clippers also??
We sharpen all clipper blades and adjust/service all hair clippers. Prices vary based on model and labor involved. Blade sharpening on average is $7, and services/adjustments range between $10-25. Feel free to contact us by using one of the options listed in the video's description.
Hi. What kind of diamonds powder did you used in wheel?
And how do you stick powder on wheel?
Thank you
Im sorry, i do not know. My uncle gives it to me.
Thank you for the video. Where did you buy the circular grinder? No matter how much I look for it, it's hard to confirm.
I built the machine and the wheel is a custom design.
Were can I get it
It's not available.
Saya akan membuat demikian
hello a question your album is diamond and where did you get it I am writing to you from Peru

Hello. Its either still full or adjusted wrong and the cutter blade is cutting you.
ihi, i dont have the machine for doing the job. but im working with sands paper diferent grain, over a piece of glass. i got a question, its necesarie to polish the blades up to 2500 grain, to get a mirrow shine, or with a 1000 grain its ok?
excuse my english im from argentina.
your videos helpme a lot, thanks for sharing
I would not recommend sharpening clipper blades on a flat surface. You could end up ruining them.
@@cloudsdiamondsharpening3973 thanks for the advise. i will use a wheel with the correct angle soon. hugh bro, your videos are great i learn a lot of them.
Cloud's Diamond Sharpening how does using a flat plate ruin them? Also, how much do you charge?
Hi please advice where to buy machine and price
Try the Nebraska Clipper blade Sharpening Machine
Do you have that Dimond honing wheel for sale for other machines?
We manufacture the wheel for our use. We don't currently sell it.
I have a question about dog groomers clippers there backwards
Hello. What is the question? They are backwards? Please explain
What's that flat block name? What metal is it?
I don't know what its called bc i inherited it but its made from iron
What's the machine rpm? Thank you
Rpms should be adjusted to the shape or pattern of your wheel.
Could I use a 12 inch glass pan lid, with wet and dry, and get similar results?
Hello. You can try to use anything you want that's Circle but it won't get sharp unless it's surfaced with a bevel or convex pattern. If the blades do not have shape to them and then they will come out flat and flat is dull. So basically it might work for an hour or so maybe a day if you sharpen on something flat without shape and you'll probably damage the blade, so I don't recommend it . When my wheel becomes flat blades stop working
@@cloudsdiamondsharpening3973 the pan lid is convex that's where the question comes from.
What about flat ground clippers?
I don't understand the question. Flat-ground? When they're dull they are flat.
@@cloudsdiamondsharpening3973 I mean covering the topic of flat grind vs. Hollow?
Just like hollow scossor grind vs flat scissor grind.
@@rileycoppicus1128 scissors that are hollow ground come from the factory hollow depending on the use case of the scissor.
Gracias
Hi. Do you sell the diamond wheel?
Unfortunately, we do not sell our sharpening wheel.
@@cloudsdiamondsharpening3973 no worries. Thanks
Please tell what is matirial of wheel

where is the proper place to oil the blade?
You always want to lubricate wherever the two blades are touching: the teeth, the lower rail under the blade, and the plastic guide that rests on the cutting blade. You're using the oil to reduce friction produced from two blade sets rubbing against one another.
Perdón conicidad
No uso la rueda cónica común.
@@cloudsdiamondsharpening3973 gracias por contestar
Hello, my brother, answer me
Whats your question?
To me to my knowledge the center cut awful
I worked for an Andis, Oster, and Wahl authorized service center for over a decade before starting my own business 5 years ago. I don't know of any sharpener who could remain in the industry that long who couldn't get blades to cut in the center consistently.
I don’t want to criticiz your way of sharpening but to me it’s not correct, Do you know where in the USA I can go for a competition who is the best sharpener? Let me know I’m ready to let go my secrets I have cancer and it tell them ow to do em fast and extremely sharp
Thanks for watching the video Jesus. Considering my wheel and the process that I use is exclusive to my business, I would not expect competing sharpeners to understand. I do not use a common taper wheel as most, and I can use 1500 diamond grain as opposed to the common 180/220 grit. I try to focus on the customers approval and feedback as opposed to any competing companies.
Hai jesus, If you do not mind, you can share how you sharpen for the blade
Send feedback
Trust me it's easier to get a new clipper for 25 dollars . Mine is 10 years old works good not dull yet only use for my hair
@@eddiekulp1241 Where do you get a new detachable blade for $25 first of all? Second, where did you see that he charges $25 to sharpen a blade? The industry standard is around $10 tops, I charge $8. Having your blades sharpened professionally is the most economical option for a stylist, barber, or groomer.
