Clipper Blade Sharpening

  • Here's another video, detailing my process when sharpening hair clipper blades. I try to explain the geometry behind clipper blade sharpening, and what leads to a blade becoming dull. Clipper blades that are sharpened correctly will produce a consistent cut every time, and with the correct sharpening pattern, the edge will last longer. As a business owner, I have to not only consider how sharp the blades are, but also how long the blades will last for our customers before becoming flat (dull). This is why the hollow shape is important. Feel free to comment below and I'll respond to any questions you have.

    Best explanation I've encountered. Recently a friend asked me to try to sharpen her dog clippers and I used wet-and-dry paper on a mirror - 800, 1200 and 2000 grit. I did a great job, but ... the blades don't cut. This video explains why. Thanks so much. Luckily my friend has new blades coming.

    Awesome video, great job. That totally explains why after I sharpened my blades (3 dog grooming blades) they only cut for like 10 seconds before pulling hair. I did flat stone sharpening, and I apparently took the hone out of them.

      Hello. A flat block will never sharpen your blade. Blades are not flat they have shape to them. You'll need to get it professionally sharpened to work correctly.

    • @cloudsdiamondsharpening3973
      @cloudsdiamondsharpening3973  3 года назад +2

      Hello. You can try to use anything you want that's Circle but it won't get sharp unless it's surfaced with a bevel or convex pattern. If the blades do not have shape to them and then they will come out flat and flat is dull. So basically it might work for an hour or so maybe a day if you sharpen on something flat without shape and you'll probably damage the blade, so I don't recommend it . When my wheel becomes flat blades stop working

    where is the proper place to oil the blade?

    • @cloudsdiamondsharpening3973
      @cloudsdiamondsharpening3973  4 года назад

      You always want to lubricate wherever the two blades are touching: the teeth, the lower rail under the blade, and the plastic guide that rests on the cutting blade. You're using the oil to reduce friction produced from two blade sets rubbing against one another.

      Thanks for watching the video Jesus. Considering my wheel and the process that I use is exclusive to my business, I would not expect competing sharpeners to understand. I do not use a common taper wheel as most, and I can use 1500 diamond grain as opposed to the common 180/220 grit. I try to focus on the customers approval and feedback as opposed to any competing companies.
