Might be boring, but thanks for posting! Learning how to maintain things is very valuable. I'm here because my clippers need sharpening after about 20 years of home use lol. I assumed a rub on the stone would be fine, but wanted to know what I don't know.
Please use a qualified person to sharpen these before you try dIY at home and ruin them.

Oh and one more thought. Get our clipper serviced. I was pulling out my hair wondering what was wrong with my sharpening and it wasn't the sharpening at all. It was the clipper with some warn out parts.(that plastic piece that oscillates the cutter for one) Once I had it serviced the blades all worked great. Figured that out after having to re-do many blades for many months

Hi... I like to watch your vids, i learn a lot from you, well sometimes I have some frustrating experience when sharpening with some blades, I check that I do all steps as it should, but blades just doesn't cut!! Well the only solution is to put a new cutter...and it works fine... If you once find what's wrong with these cutters...I would like to know.... Saludos from Chile
It's possible the cutter was sharpened wrong by someone else or was defective from the manufacturer.

I am a retired Barber and I don't take much metal off at all when I sharpen my blades with a 1000 and 6000 grit wet stones. Now watching you I wonder what am I missing ? LOL
You are missing the hollow grind. Eventually after enough flat stone sharpening it will be gone and they will stop cutting.

Please what kind of liquid did you pour into the bowl ( small basin ) to clean up the the blade ?
I was using an ultra sonic cleaner and used water with a little degreaser soap.
Is the purpose of the string just to keep the blade perpendicular to the edge of the wheel, or something else?
I must keep the blade lined up straight from the center of the plate to the edge.
Hay una cosa que no llego a entender, si los cortantes de metal sí o sí se los afila con el disco de alumino con ángulo, por qué los de cerámica resultan quedar bien en una piedra de diamante plana. A caso y al final no es tan necesario realmente lo del ángulo, por más explicaciones teóricas que hacen al respecto.
Supe comprar un disco en mi país, Argentina, el centro del mismo no se usa, tiene quitado un diámetro de 10 cm., en donde lleva una base que va al eje del motor para soportar el disco. Desde el borde del diámetro central de 10cm. hacia afuera del disco, tiene el ángulo de inclinación de 1mm. tallado, pero en una superficie de apenas 7cm. para tallar las cuchillas, cortantes y peines. El resultado es un debaste para nada cóncavo, sino que gasta más en un borde que en otro, osea, talla el ángulo de caída plano del disco, pero deja la cuchilla con tal desbaste desprolijo. O el ángulo en vez de ser de inclinación plana, con pendiente hacia los bordes del disco, en realidad debe ser un ángulo convexo, así de esa forma talla una concavidad en la cucilla?
Creo me estafaron, y de paso resaltar la mala intención de ello. El disco es marca Filoscan modelo serranita.
Veo que en éstos disco y muchos otros, la superficie de afilado son amplias, no solo 7cm. como en el mío, creo me embromaron.

Don't you have to remove the burr first?
The brush removes the burr. There is no burr until after metal has been removed.
Sorry, I meant remove the burr first( really last) before assembling to test cut
Demagnetize then brush the burr off.
Again, dear I ask, I would like to find out, is the hone ( the disk ) a complete metal ? The reason why I'm asking this question is because I want to form or create a Clipper blade sharpening machine
I don’t make the hone. It is made by EdgePro. I would recommend you buy theirs and not make your own. They have put decades of research into this.

Is there any advantages in using your clipper blade sharpener vs. the Treyco 3000?
I know people who do a great job on both machines. I have never used Treyco but I understand it has slower RPM's.

How else can that be done if I don’t have that type of sharpener?
You can’t do this without some type of professional clipper hone. Attempting to sharpen by hand on a stone will eventually make the clipper unable to cut by removing the hollow.
So the honing disk is a convex surface. I wonder what the radius of the convex is?
I have been trying to get my oyster blades sharpened. We are in the NEK of Vermont. May I send them to you to be sharpened? Although I can tell you do not like sharpening clipper blades. I have approximately 8 pairs.

a suggestion from one sharpener to another, ( I also hate doing these!) Take out some steps, I think you can get away with skipping the ultra sonic cleaning. ( this will save time and get them done faster) I demagnetize after sharpening then use a nylon brush in warm soapy water to clean off the grinding dust.( I found this amazing brush on amazon that has really long bristles that works great for getting into those really thick blades) Also if you are testing the blades after sharpening I think you are safe to eliminate the rub block. These steps don't take much time but it sure adds up. Thanks for the video! I had no idea you could sharpen ceramic cutters on a diamond stone. I will be trying this out for sure. - Cheryl
I would take out some steps but as you see it passed the rub block but not the fur cut. A sharpener called me today and suggested a good brass brush would have removed some burs between the teeth and would have made it glide through the hair better.
@@BonikaShears its frustrating. when there is something wrong it's reeeeeally hard to pinpoint the problem.

@@queryads1000 "Carlisle 4002000 Sparta Hand and Nail Brush, Polyester Bristles, 2" Length x 5" Width Block" (put this into amazon and it should pop up. I've started to think it is likly too soft to knock off any burr but with it's long bristles it's great at cleaning out the blades that have more depth. It's pricey but I love it

Holds natural in hand. I'll still check your solution out. I bought a microscope and I see that it remove all blurs after 2-3 small baths with dawn dish

Talk about confusing and making a simple job complicated.
My new video which is step by step is 100 times better and less confusing. This is the one I send out before training. I’ll be posting short clips from it in the near future. Please keep in mind, my real expertise is in beauty shears.

Large animal sheers should be flat ground as opposed to hollow for small animal and human hair clippers.
If you only have the one clipper hone, it would be best I would assume to sharpen mostly on the outside of the plate where there is less slope. I do very few large animal blades. Thank you for the suggestion.
@@BonikaShears You can get great results on the larger blades with a flat diamond plate hone. I think most people have a flat hone if they sharpen anything professionally. I'd do simple figure 8's with light pressure on a 220 up to 800 then polish on a water stone. In the end, it's not THAT critical on the large sheers because the hair is far thicker and less apt to push or lay. Thanks for the great content!

Two or more people I know confessed to me that when they sharpen their clipper blade with the sharpening machine it gives the blade excellent results but after a month and some days the clipper blade get destroyed, no longer useful. Please what is the cause ? What they said had made me lose interest in clipper blade sharpening machine? My focus is on the rub block instead of the other one. Please help me understand. Thank you
I think they did not properly clean after sharpening. The demagnetizer is important. Without that some grit may cling between the teeth then after use will work it’s way between the blades dulling them. All the grit must be removed after sharpening.

The title of the video was “demonstration” not “tutorial.” As noted, I don’t like sharpening clipper blades and yes I rather talk and postpone it than sharpen. Lol…thank you for your comment. Yes, you are on target. Will it change? Maybe not. It is much harder to film blade sharpening than shear sharpening.
You know you can just fast forward to the parts you'd like to see, right? You don't have to sit through what you don't want to watch.
