Back in 2017, Apple deleted Touch ID and replaced it with Face ID. They didn’t keep both. They didn’t add Face ID to Touch ID. They went to the brave new world of biometrics and burned the old one down behind them.
But, the ashes had barely even settled before we started getting rumors of Touch ID’s return. It’s resurrection.
Not just in the new iPhone SE, which some people loved precisely because it had Touch ID, but in the flagship iPhones as well.
But, why would Apple kill it just to bring it back to life? And could they do it as soon as the #iPhone12?

6s Plus is still amazing, the cam might not measure up but otherwise it's top notch. The thing has a 1080 res and can film up to 4k. I've got an SE from my network operator but I still prefer the larger screen on my 6s+. I only need 1 cam but I would gladly upgrade for more storage if it's real improvement from the 6s+. Alternatively I could just get Apple to change my battery as it's running at 75% now.

One of the aspects of the new iPhoneSE which draws me to it is that it uses TouchID instead of FaceID. If it wasn't for the fact that I spend about 98% of my time in my house, I would have already bought an iPhoneSE. Well, another significant reason I haven't bought one yet is that my cellphone-service provider is almost always out of the 128-gig iPhoneSE in the color I want.
But I have been torn between it and what I've heard for the low-end iPhone 12. But if iPhone 12 *did* have a TouchID sensor, that'd easily be enough for me to go for the 12 instead of the new iPhoneSE. So now I'm much more inclined to wait to see what Apple actually delivers for the iPhone 12. (...but if the iPhone 12 doesn't have TouchID, then I'm not likely to wait around for next year's iPhone)

Great video. Very interesting. I never thought I’d see the day when Apple went back to an old technology, but he last few releases have convinced me that they have shifted their focus. Apple seems to now be a company that takes more cues from the tech community because it wants people to come into its ecosystem, which isn’t exactly a bad thing. Still, I would have love to see Apple progress to a retina scanner or something that connected with my Apple Watch to workaround the mask issue, just to see a greater flex!

Lander Santiago Agreed, I may not be an iphone user but my brother (which he is) says its annoying that he has to key in the pin whenever he’s outside with his mask on. Apple shouldn’t have ditched touch id but have it included for their users to choose.

@@nufailiskandar6764 agreed, each have their pros and cons. I prefer TouchID, but that's because TouchID works nearly flawlessly for me. I almost never have to type in my Pin. For my mom though, TouchID never works because she hardly has a fingerprint for it to read. So for her FaceID would be a massive improvement. The best really is to have both and people can either enable both or choose the one they prefer.

I also really hope they keep size down even shrinking devices more after getting hand aches from my 8+ I don’t really appreciate bigger screen size with health trade off and potential long term effects (especially using my phone basically 15 hours a day)
If it’s security we’re talking they need to focus elsewhere like cameras an microphone like a mode that doesn’t broadcast info elsewhere but I guess they are working on that

I do need a new phone to go along with my new computer (MBP graphics card is dying). SOOOOOOO, I haven't watched the video yet but I wanted to say YES PLEASE TOUCH ID. I am not interested in the faceID at all. Not sure if you know this, but "the authorities" cannot force you to touch-id or put in a code, but they CAN hold a phone up to your face and see if it opens the phone. @GTA and Apple channel most people don't wear gloves too, as it supposedly isn't nearly as common to get it via touch.

    • @karancricketer
      @karancricketer 4 года назад

GTA and Apple channel we can’t use a phone at all with a glove. So people using smartphones have their glove removed.
But removing the mask for face identification each time you unlock is not very convenient. Apple understood that and gave the option of going straight to password without waiting for face is rejection.

I hate face id on my ipad pro, I still have to tap the device and instead of that action letting me access with touch id, I near]y always have to position my face or move my finger from the face id sensor. Super annoying to be told to act in a certain way. Over engineering sucks.

idk i never missed touchid. i’m a tech guy, so i really like high tech stuff on my smartphone and touchid feels old tech to me. ALSO, it’s not very like apple to abandon something or replace something then put it back. i think it’s misguided to think that apple only abandoned touchid because of the full-screen design. think of this, do yall think faceID was ‘rushed’ just to solve the dilemma that would be the absence of the home button? of course no. faceid has been in the works for years to kill touchID.

At the very least I would like a feature android’s had for a while, which is trusted devices. If I can unlock my Mac with my Apple Watch I should be able to unlock my iPhone when paired to the watch or AirPods. Also trusted locations - I don’t really need my phone to be locked when I’m home and connected to my WiFi.

Just upgraded from iPhone 8 to iPhone 12 and the removal of Touch ID is a classic example of where apple believe they improve technology by removing perfectly good technology.
I never used face ID anyway, and I especially wouldn’t of used it unlock the phone, that’s just so easy for someone to steal your phone and instantly unlock it, I always use a password. But now having to use face ID to unlock and use all my apps instead of touch ID is just so annoying, cumbersome, and blatantly counterintuitive.
I understand the removal of the home button, not used to it yet, but I see it as a good thing, but why would they remove a Touch ID if there was nothing wrong with it in the first place? It’s all about how Apple want you to live in Apple world, it’s been like this for quite a few years now, it doesn’t matter if it’s not a sensible world, as long as it’s Apple’s world then they’re happy.

Id trade face id for touch id if it made the phone have no notch BUT in a smaller form factor.
So take the rumored 5.4” iPhone, if it had touch id (in-display, power button, or on the back) but was able to remove the notch, id but that in a minute.
I get that small phones arent what most consumers want, but if i could have the choice it would be that.

Touch ID in the power button would not be a good idea, you would always need to pick the phone up to unlock it,. Don’t think Apple will go that way.

Apple should develop their own internal software that allows iPhones and iPad/iPad Pro to mirror, similar to Apple TV. It would be great to be able to mirror my iPhone XS camera image to iPad Pro. Why, if I’m trying to take a photo on iPhone XS say on tripod, I could focus and snap picture from iPad. This would work great when you had an extended reach tripod, let’s say looking into a bird nest. Focus and take picture from iPad. No third party apps needed, built into Apple’s own software. Get on it. Software can and should be as good as all the bells and whistles of each new generation of iPhones and iPads.

I think those of us that dislike or even hate TouchID, hate the home button.... not necessarily touch. If Touch was under screen and that same phone had FaceID as well, you could just use whichever you like and care not about the other.... especially if FaceID one day goes under screen and the front of the phone goes notchless, bumpless, divitless etc etc, just one complete uninterrupted piece of glass. I know my dream which may seem vanilla, is that one piece of glass, no buttons or anything, is completely see through, the internal electronics are hidden somehow and it literally looks like you cut a little rectangle slab out of your window. The tech to do that would be insane, bordering of imaginary.

Face ID works fine on iOS and rear fingerprint scanners are convenient and secure on Android. The problem is that manufacturers want to make life unnecessarily complicated to justify putting up their prices. I wish they would stop faffing around with their screen-to-body ratio obsession and put their innovation efforts into coming up with a battery that will endure a long weekend of heavy use.

Finally! An iPhone that LOOKS like an iPhone! Can’t wait to get rid of my iAndroid looking 11 PRO with “Selfie ID”!!!
That boxy look is classic iPhone.
TouchID is just a whole lot better and more logical.
Now, if Apple would only add 2 ports on the bottom (one for charging and one for whatever the hell I want to connect while I’m charging on the go) now that would make for a complete smartly designed iPhone!
