A1 Risers - I finally got it right

  • I swapped out my HD extended risers for a set of A1 Cycles risers, and these ought to be keepers. Don, an IBA friend who's also running a PanAm in the Hoka Hey this month, recommended them to me, and he was right. They raise the bars 2" like the HD ones did, but also pull the handle bars back an inch. That puts me in a much better seating position, as well as giving me a view of the screen almost as good as stock. It installed with the stock cables & wires no problem, and clears my Giant Loop tank bag lock to lock.

I’ve just installed them last week. I’m 179cm tall and the clock is partially blocked for me too. That being said, the amount comfort that my shoulders got is worth it 😬.

Thank you Jim for the review,I’m struggling a little with the stock risers and didn’t like the idea of HDs ones blocking the clock…this looks a winner

I also had an issue with the controls pressing against the HD tank bag at full lock with the stock ones. Not anything that affected my riding, but just enough to switch my screen from black to white. Not really a problem (once I figured out how to switch it back) just irritating.

These risers make a huge difference . Try to check out the California Scientific windshield. Just make sure you go no bigger than the MEDIUM size. The MEDIUM size, set to the lowest level is 100% perfect for me at 5'10" with a 31" inseam and sundowner seat in the low position. Just note that you'll have to trim off two little sections so the hand guards can clear it. Took me 10 minutes , a dremmel tool and a steady hand. Im pretty sure CalSci will trim it for you.
But for under $200, it's a fantastic windshield which gives you a nice pocket of calm air with no buffeting.

I have these and they work great. I am 6' and am searching for a way to be comfortable on my PA. Have you done changes to your saddle. I tried the stock seat but kept sliding to the tank. So I got the taller seat and now the shoulders hurt because risers are not tall enough. Any suggestions?

I haven't replaced my seat yet. I am on the wait list for a custom Russel Day-Long seat, but those wait lists were crazy even before covid (there's a reason they're in such high demand). I won't have it before the Hoka Hey, but I hope to have it before next year's IBR.

What are you using for seat. can you touch both feet on ground?

The stock seat, at the lowest setting. With Klim boots and the suspension at full drop I can get both feet on the ground, but it is a bit of a stretch, almost standing and uncomfortable. I normally stop with the balls of both feet on the ground.
