If there is one song that reminds me of my late mother, it is this one.

Just found your channel and I'm using it in the dementia unit. There are many singalong clips with photos and videos, but our residents relate so much better to your smiling face and love to singalong with you. Thank you.

Thank you for your comment. I'm in the process of recording a new sing-along dvd with hymns, and plan to include some images and video clips. It's good to know that the interaction with a human face relays just as much pleasure as beautiful mountains and skies.

I recall that when I was a late adolescent/early teen... I had known this song from a group I was in. I liked the song and memorized it...but other than that - it didn't have much more of an importance. As I recall, my grandmother was spending time at our home before going into a residential home of her own (she was in the middle stages of Alzheimer's so sometimes she was alert, and other times...not).
Anyway... one day I was mindlessly singing this song, and my grandmother became alert and even animated. She LOVED the song and we sang it many times through. She would sing the second verse (which I never knew) and encouraged me to learn it. She asked me what other songs I knew - and I sang with her any hymns I had ANY recall of. It was probably the closest connection I had EVER had with this woman who was never really approachable even before developing Alzheimer's. Though I still love this song... I can't sing it with thinking of her and the moments we shared that afternoon. (It also gave me a new perspective on my faith and the Bible.... that the same passages I read and gain strength from were the same ones my ancestors did many years and many generations before. The way that all ties together over the centuries gives me a wonderful feeling.)
