  • Let's unbox the new Tilta Hydra Alien Camera Car Mounting System!
    This is a really cool piece of gear that will allow us to film moving cars on the road in a whole new way. This system allows you to mount your camera outside of your car while driving down the road. Imagine, professional-looking shots right from the passenger seat! I finally got my hands on one of these after a long wait, and I wanted to share my opinion, how it works, and why you need this in your life if you film cars.

    thank you very much for the concise and thorough overview. super helpful in helping make the tilta our choice for our RS2. haven't decided on the battery situation. i was debating on being cheap and just fabricating a mount for the DJI battery handle to run the gimbal for short shoots

      Hey! Thanks for the comment. That would be very interesting if you could figure out a way to convert that battery. I’m sure people would like to see it. Honestly though, if your spending this much, what’s another $300? 😂
      Either way. Keep me posted. I’d love to know if you make that happen. Thanks for watching. Cheers

      That’s awesome! I have a ninja monitor on my list for sure. So far the Raveneye has been consistent, but I have heard it’s not always that way. I will be switching to the same ones I get a monitor or two.

      @@VolareMedia you will not regret it at all! I love having the Ninja V+; I suction cup it to the front window and simply run a long HDMI cable out to the camera and the best part is the Ninja has an output HDMI port which means you can feed that signal to another screen if it was needed!

      Hello,
      I think the one in this video is a Shape 99
      No idea what the part number is. But you can find it for sure online. I recommend Shape or Swit batteries. Both have been great for me so far. Thanks for watching!

    Have you by chance come up with a focus solution? i have the follow focus for the RS2 and i have the raven eye. But i'm not sure if i'm able to manually focus from the car. I really wish i could just use a PS5 controller with L2 and R2 as the focus pullers.

    • @VolareMedia
      @VolareMedia  2 года назад +1

      Hey, thanks for watching. I have not done much in the way of manual focus yet remotely. It’s actually on my board for a video, I’m doing research and testing things out to find a way. I will be ordering the remote kit through Tilta and use a monitor. That should work. I will let you know how it all goes.

    • @beezermedia
      @beezermedia Год назад

      You can run auto focus and use the monitor + app to touch to focus. It doesn't do tracking but for rollers you should be on a higher aperture anyways to keep the whole car in focus.

    I've had issues using Raven Eye will driving. Have you had any issues with it? Everything worked great when we tested it in studio but as soon as we got on the road and started driving it was nearly unusable due to latency.

    • @VolareMedia
      @VolareMedia  Год назад +1

      Hey! Yes actually we have had the same problem. I just started filming an episode called “Goodbye Raveneye”
      For our rolling shots we now use a monitor up front. I wired the Element all up with HDMI cables.
      I’ll post it soon! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. 🙏🙏

      Great to hear! First V Mount battery I got was by Shape. They are really good. I also have some now by Swit. But honestly there are many good v mount brands. After using lots of different v mounts on film set etc. I recommend considering one with a USB + USB-C on it. This way it has other uses aside from this. And yes, most v mounts do not come with a charger. Any one will do. Cheapest starter one will be amazon, direct d tap plug in style. Good luck, and have fun!

      Hey! That’s great to hear. You are going to love this set up. For this set up we used the DJI Raveneye, you need that to send the video output to your phone. You can also control the gimbal through the same app once it’s set up.

      From Amazon. It working out great. I have only really used it for this, but it’s designed for hand held filming with a phone. Works perfect for the wireless transmission with the Raven eye as well when the handles are on. I go over that more with my next video.

      Now I have it down packed. I get be up and running in 20 minutes.
      Used to take longer. Also depends if we go extreme and have a focus puller and multiple monitors etc. But two man show, with auto focus. I’d say 15-20 mins.

    what app are you using to control the rig?

    • @VolareMedia
      @VolareMedia  Год назад +1

      In this case it was just the DJI app. Called force mobile. Now I don’t use an app, I use the Tilta handle controls for movement, Tilta focus and separate wireless transmitter for video, then monitors in the car for focus etc.
      But the original set up works ok as well with the DJI app

    1:10 Tilta actually sells a "Base Plate for Zhiyun Crane 3S" on their website in the Hydra section, so it works with more than just the DJI RS/RS2. You can also use saran wrap to adhere the suction cup to bad surfaces like chipped/rusting paint. I saw you're getting your car wrapped, but here's a good method for the meantime (and others who might want to know the method). Here's a good video from CineMilled about it: ruclips.net/video/px1HxQuSA0U/видео.html

      Hey, thanks for watching. That’s great! Thanks for all the great info. I actually noticed just after I filmed this that they have some other mounts now, even the DJI Ronin-S. I have that as a back up, so I might get that mount kit just in case.
      Thanks again. Maybe I’ll try the saran wrap method and see how it goes.
      Cheers 🍻

      Haha. Yep. I am getting the vehicle wrapped flat black soon. At the same time I do love having the added security. This vehicle is only for filming, so I don’t mind. And I could always get a used hood if I change my filming rig to a crane or something. I will be doing many more mods that will include drilling and mounting more items as well.
