I remember an interview with Luke Crane about Burning Wheel where he said that if you house rule, you're playing the game wrong. Since any house rule you can think of, Luke had already thought of, playtested, and found that it didn't work. I was pretty shocked that the interviewer just accepted that as fact.
The same guy made Torchbearer, a game some consider to be OSR.

I honestly thought you were kidding with this rule 0 thing....But then I found the tweet. Wow... People seem to be forgetting we're talking about something fun and social right?! It's a game!!! You've gotta be careful not to get sucked into their world Pundit, but thanks for sharing the vid, I got a good chuckle or 5 out of it :)

What if you did a gritty campaign in the era of Alfred the Great. That would be so cool. You’d get all the Last Kingdom fans to buy it. Don’t forget to include a city or two and some castles with detail.

First edition WOD was dope but i always played Were critters ( lots of rats and wolves)/ vampire slayers ... Had these folks from North Carolina that used to play in conventions they all played humans southern baptist vampire hunters and they were not only funny but pretty badass we helped them kill a lot of stuck up vampires ...

    • @hixanthrope
      @hixanthrope 5 лет назад

Pundit's just wrong about this one. Vampire is (or at least, was) a game about stabbing your buddies in the back and eating their souls to grow more powerful. At least that's how we always played it.

Regarding the issue of Albert seceding from Canada, I've seen a map where Southern United States as well as the midwests of both US and Canada were one nation and the coasts of both nations were an alternative country with the hammer and sickle. That might work.

I looked into the The Great Pendragon Campaign. Looks very intriguing but I’ve already put too much work into my own campaign world. I could use it with Lion and Dragon, yes, but I’m waiting to see what the reboot of Chivalry and Sorcery might offer in the way of setting. Let’s see what their setting is like. If my current roll 20 campaign fizzles out, I’ll take my game to Fantasy Grounds and I’ll reboot it in Lion and Dragon instead of D&D 3.5. Write now I’m just using pieces of Lion and Dragon.

What I meant when I asked you to make a castle, was for you to make us an actual castle, with inhabitants that is generic enough that we can put into any medieval authentic campaign. I didn’t mean make us a “guide”. Harn has one of those.

Thanks for explaining all that. I remember The Forge, and I remember reading some crazy-talk about D&D being 'racist', frankly I didn't really get it at the time; and I remember reading an article about GNS and all the 'storygame' mania, I didn't know about Professor Bat Penis though; I do remember a lot of obnoxious propaganda about the 'correct' way to think, design, and play games. Your little history really helped me understand what that was all about. It's actually amazing how much the RPG industry was a proving ground for SJW entryist tactics and SJWs themselves; It's like the gaming hobby was an advance-copy microcosm of the culture war going on in the West. I stated gaming again in the past few years after a long time off, I started on Holmes Blue Book way back and quit after D&D 3.0 - firmly trained in the old-school of the DM as god lol. I'm currently DMing and OSR game for some guys in their mid-20s and they give no indication that 'Rule 0' is some kind of problem for them. I never even thought to ask lol.

I'll try and sum it up. New players become tainted by this no rule zero bs and become insufferable to play with unless you chain yourself to every rule produced by the designers. I also talk about this and ways to take advantage of rule zero in the zine I'm working on.

@@casperblake7002 Understand, however we were never told about Rule-0 back in the 70's and we naturally homebrewed D&D and Gammaworld (GW when Mad Max came out)... everyone, including US need to stop thinking that the internet community is RL, it ain't and it never will be. Back in the old days, the crazy person lived in the alley. you might have 2 or 3 per town...we all pointed and laughed. Internet came and now those 2-3 per town are collectively worldwide 30,000 strong (and they have nothing else to do as they are unemployable and living off the dole)

Just wanted to chime in as far as the Palladium part of your stream. I don't know about sjws, but a sizable amount of criticism directed at Palladium comes from its creator.
Kevin is and always has been tightly controlling of anything from his company, which is his right. He often solicits submissions, but will then rewrite them to where he can put himself as a credit if not the primary credit. There are several threads on rpgnet from people who used to work with him.
Criticism towards the game mechanics often comes from the fact that the game really doesn't have a functioning ruleset. He makes no effort to Kure what he puts in books, so each book has new races, classes, weapons, abilities many times lacking any kind of errata to clarify who can and cannot use them.
I don't know about recent years, but in the past he's also been extraordinarily hostile to criticism, and based on bad legal advice he had been getting actively suzani fan site because he's convinced that if you use any aspect of his IP even as a fansite he will lose the rights to everything.
I'm not by any measure his critic. I've been gaming for over 30 years and Palladium systems have been a go-to for many of those years. I have three shelves of his gaming material and up to a point subscribed to rifter.
I would be dishonest though if I avoided criticizing him for some of his faults. Being on both sides of the screen for all of his games except for fantasy, unless you lay down some home-brewed rules the games become a power gaming mess.
I even purchased his relatively recent reprints of the core Rift books, under the assumption that he was finally curating some of the material. After all Rifts has well over 50 books to its name and each one offers a dizzying catalog of all the stuff I mentioned. But nope, they even include the same typos.
He has definitely had problems that have put him on the edge. Some years back someone in the company stole pretty much all their savings. Money that he has told people he will never get back. And I give him credit for continuing to persevere. I am more than a little disappointed that a sizable chunk of his offerings have been reprints with new covers, but no real new content. And I'm not surprised that over the last 15 years he has lost the licenses 2 TMNT and Robotech, because he did so little with them. He could have been churning out study book supplements for both especially since both are back in comics again. Instead he abandoned TMNT, and did nothing with Robotech beyond the Miniatures game he put out which by all of the reviews is pretty bad.
I don't know if you'll ever see this, but I wanted to put this out there because you make it sound like he has been for brigaded largely from snobs. White wolf fans were snobs from day one because it was storytelling, but I don't think it was anything specific to beyond what I've mentioned above

I can’t remember where I saw this, but you can play the M-card against someone’s X-card: “If you’re the kind of person who’s going to get triggered by a half-hearted description in a brightly-lit room around a table with a bunch of other people and some dice you can f-k off.”

Rule Zero might seem to be elitist if one person was the DM all of the time. It would still be inaccurate but there would be some superficial reasoning behind it.
