- Showing everything that I packed for my indefinitely long minimalist travel and telling why I made such choices. It’s not a usual travel packing video: it might not look nice, I haven’t ironed the clothes and I failed to create perfectly packed rolls of clothing😊 But I hope you’ll still enjoy this chat. I’m doing my best to stay in my sane mind, so making YT videos and connecting with you is a huge psychological help.

Not so sure I agree. In Nazi camps he didn't exactly lounge and philosophise. He scrambled to survive. But when starved, feverish, hallucinative, caged and beaten, how can one ''choose an attitude''???

Lovely curation, I can feel how each item brings you comfort. I agree with dresses being super versatile! One of my most loved pieces is a flannel, button down maxi dress, it can be a dress, a robe, nightgown, duster, or light coat.

I have never been interested in limiting my creative items, although I want to eliminate items I won’t use. I am a textile artist and part of that is choosing my garments each day. I have clothes from many parts of the world, often hand embellished. I also have collected “vintage” items that are the styles I have loved in my 63 year garment history, especially late 1960’s and mid-1980’s. Clothing is an artform and I choose carefully but I have tons of it.
My husband is also a Brian. I would definitely give up all my precious embroidered handmade African/Hawaiian/Uzbek clothes for him. I could pass on my Turkish historical socks/knits. And wow! I have helped distribute 3 friends’ items when they moved/died. I dread that someone might need to do that with mine.
I appreciate you so much. I don’t go for most minimalist folks’ aesthetics... my biz name is ColorJoy. My basic colors are turquoise/purple and my accent colors are hot pinks and hot greens. Everything goes together and can be combined. I wear dresses and skirts... only leggings for pants. I wear shirts for jackets sometimes, too, over my dresses in summer.
Shoes are hard for me, too. I wear girls shoes sometimes. Anything but sandals are black.
I can’t imagine fitting all my things in a suitcase and backpack. Still, love is worth big change.

Great video as always, Ana. Life can be unpredictable and we can never know when we might end up in a situation where we have to suddenly pack all of our belongings in one suitcase. Dear Ana, you are correct about wool warmth. It is a natural warmth created by our body heat warming the air pockets which are a natural part of the structure of wool fibers. Manmade fibers create an artifical warmth, and I agree with you that it feels quite different. Loved this video. I wish you safety and happiness on every leg of this new journey 💜

I watched this twice and I think I understand your color scheme. Most of your things are navy (cropped t, dress, hoodie, jeans, shoes) rust (summer pants, summer dress), rose (t-shirts, hats) and browns (summer jacket, new sweater). With hints of black in your flannel shirt and your new pants. But you have an unexpected red hat and red straps on your summer sandals. Quirky! I really like how it all coordinates. You have a grey shirt too. All so thought out. Very nice!
To extend the wear of pants you can do a few things (or at least one as I know that you try to stay away from chemicals)
1: spray with stain proofing and/or waterproof. The silicone helps to take away the friction from sitting, etc
2. use an interfacing (fusible iron on is great) to the interior of the backside. It adds an important layer to strengthen against normal wear and tear.
3. Wash by hand. And wash less. air the clothing out on a rack or chair even after wearing on a clothes between wash-in. Especially in the sun.
4. lightly spray with a diy deodorizer- water, essential oil drop or two and small amount of one of the following rubbing alcohol, vodka or baking soda - after wearing.

Hello my friend and beautiful soal. I am in awe, how you fit all of your travel things in just a suitcase, a backpack and 2 totebags. That is amazing. :-) :-) (just a bit of light heartedness here, lol)
I learnt how to pack economically since I was a child. We travelled a lot with my parents back in the day and I moved over 20 times in my life as well. I think it is like an art, to pack a certain way which is pragmatical, space saving and economical.
I loved it, when you said, that clothes are an extension of our body. They truely are, aren`t they. Remeber the children`s story about "The Emperor`s New Clothes"? :-D :-D I also liked it, when you said, that YOU choose the clothing and not the clothing YOU. This is very wise indeed. It is also very fortunate that we live in a time where we can actually do that. When we go back in history, we were restricted and had to dress in a certain way. Dress codes existed for many many decades. And sometimes those dresscodes were actually useful. In the olden days they showed people in a simple way the ranking of the humans, the wealth and the position. Cothes were an important tool to secure status. We came a long way from where clothes were only forms of protection against the environment. It must be the artist in us, the devine, that let us always play with things, to make something beautiful out of something practical, to enhance it and to make it our very own. It is o.k. to indulge in those things. Of course we can`t take anything with us when we leave this planet again, but while we are here we should enjoy the bounty that God gave us. Creation is full of this bounty, of the extravaganza of nature, the millions of seeds, that produce fruit and plants for everybody. So much so, that there is more than enough for everybody and left over too.

That would make me very very very unhappy. I have been collecting things i love for all of my life, 40 + years of bringing stuff into my place. Books, Music, Records, CDs, Movies, Musical Instruments, Bicycles, spare parts and tools to maintain all those things, lots of more handicraft supplies and tools and thats only a fraction, theres more, clothes of course. And i love it. Thats my life.Thats what i do, what i play with all the time. I think of my place and those things like a castle thats standing for centuries, not meant to move.
I empathize with you. It's very hard to decide which beloved items of your life you should keep. I have, over past few years, chisled down from a full house where my late husband and I raised our two sons, to one large storage unit, then to a smaller storage unit( parking down my life's items again,) then to a very small storage unit.Then bam, had to move to a state 800 miles away, so took my small room full of items and furniture for a minimal bedroom. Then had to empty the unit in new state and live in my sports car with all my clothes and personal hygiene items I feel FREE WERE now

I grew up in Praque, after college graduation from Charles University I married to American man, mostly I took my important books, didn’t get many clothes because you can get them anywhere. When traveling, as a crafter, I like to take lace yarn for knitting or crochet because it takes up very little space and there is more length to work with over a longer time (usually 400-1200m). On my next longer trip I will be making a lace cardigan for the summer and it doesn't matter if it takes me the whole 6 weeks of the trip to make but I won't run out of yarn and it will take up only a tiny space in my backpack!!

I totally agree about the wool. A lot of people seem to think it's always hot in Australia, but I live in a town where we even get the occasional sprinkling of snow. I'm struggling to find a decent woolen jumper and my knitting is terrible, but buying two 100% woolen thermal tops for this winter was the best purchase I've made and I love that they are made in Australia.
And I too find it hard to find well fitting shoes (especially boots) and I got so fed up with having to buy poor quality shoes that just before the first lockdown in 2020 I bought myself some leather boots from a horseriding shop. They were cheaper than most ladies leather boots, I wear them all the time and they still look good more than 3 years later.
I don't know why but I've noticed a lot of men's clothing is better quality than what I find in the women's section. Like there's one shop where there were men's t-shirts made of Australian cotton, but the women's ones in the same shop weren't. And thick women's socks were polyester rubbish, while there were wool blend socks in the men's section. So I've bought myself a men's t-shirt and socks from the men's section. I don't care what anyone thinks. I'm trying to only buy good quality things that last longer now even if they are not fashionable.

Your comment about scarves and hats providing a sense of protection and coverage was so insightful; I had never thought of it quite like that, but it's very true. I'm also an HSP, and I love being able to wrap up in a scarf or shawl. The wrapping itself is as comforting as the warmth. Also what you said about wearing bracelets--again, I hadn't thought of it in those terms, but it's entirely true.
In passing, one of the reasons I love your channel is how you model accepting and honoring your own sensitivities and uniqueness. I don't know whether it comes naturally to you, or whether you have worked long & hard on it, but I am often caught with an insight as to how my daily behavior & mental state is at odds with my own desires and needs. Thank you for bringing this to my attention so gently and carefully, in a way that inspires me to change for the better.
I am very interested in what you chose to carry with you--the opposite of bored! Thank you for taking the time to share with us. I live in a place that is subject to tornados in the spring and fall; several times a year I find myself packing a small bag of essentials before bed, just in case the alarm sounds during the night and we must hurry away to a shelter. It requires so much mental energy to pack with the knowledge that what you carry may be all you have.
And about the importance of wool-- I couldn't imagine facing a winter without at least one wool garment. As you say, they are warm in a very different way from fleece.
As interesting as all this is, I think most of us watch your videos just to feel a connection to you, personally. Thank you for sharing yourself with us; your channel is a ministry of peace, comfort, and hope. We all look forward to the day when you can share that you and your husband are together again.

I just came across an old plastic butter tub that my mother packed with old buttons. I looked at a few of the buttons and I actually recognized quite a few of them. :)
I'm going through a downsizing too and trying to figure out what to keep and what to give away.

Ana, you are an absolute delight and wise beyond your years. Regarding clothing comfort and practicality, wool is the BEST, plus it doesn't break down into microplastics. If it was good enough for John Muir in Yosemite, it is good enough for me. I will tell you that I was once on a glacier in Iceland with soaking wet mittens and hat due to weather but was still warm as they were wool. Rooting for you and Brian.
Exactly what I was on the point to say... and best wool material is merinos as it is very very soft and don't need much washing as it does not smell, wool is versatile... warm but also insulating when it's too hot !
You have such a great style. But also a figure that fits to everything.
Recently I had to move and wish I was organized and practicle like you.
About syntethic materials - they don't keep warm, they sweat you. That is why it is the cold-warmth. I also noticed that.
I am the same with scarves - wear a lot and wrap myself a lot. Even in summer.

Maybe it is an introvert thing. I also love to be covered up, and the feel of linen and wool and cotton (though I too have a pair of yoga pants). I was laughing when you said Birkenstocks might be ugly or cheesy. I have been wearing them since the 1970s. Maybe by now they are cheesy!!
