  • 🌲Showing my minimalist wardrobe for Siberian winters. 24 items including outerwear and shoes and excluding innerwear.
It’s not perfect, nothing near extreme minimalism, but it’s full of colors and different textures. You will see several items from fast fashion which I’ve been having for several years so far. When it comes to basics such as cotton turtle necks and longsleeves (my winter staples), I opt for fast fashion. And with dresses, pants, accessories, I prefer handmade, artisan items or produced by small manufacturers.
❗️Disclaimer: in the end of the video, I talk about harassment and I was just trying to make a point that when we neglect our own style, philosophy, and safety intuition, we become more vulnerable to potentially hurtful situations.
Thank you for watching, my friends!

Hi Ana, our wardrobes are quite similar and perhaps that’s because I live in Canada at the 53rd parallel. I also wear cords, flannel, cotton, wool and linen, and I wear my clothes in layers, depending on the weather. I suspect those who define feminine as wearing high heals, short dresses etc. don’t live in a cold climate. 🤣 Although I probably could purchase all my clothes from higher end stores, I prefer to buy second hand as I feel it’s better for the environment, plus I’m almost always guaranteed to pick up an original. I do invest in a good winter coat and boots. I like your style, and the way you pair your clothing. Knitting is a skill I wish that I had. I enjoyed your video, thank you for taking the time to create it.

Hi Ana, it's so refreshing to see you being confident with what you like and coming to accept it. At times I had to make myself wear certain things in my wardrobe, it's never a good forcing yourself to wear something! Looks like everything you own is truly comfortable for you :) On another note, when you talked about non-stereotypical femininity, I instantly thought of Tilda Swinton!! She is everything but typically feminine. She embraces and emphasises the natural lines and angles of her body instead of hiding them or 'trying to balance them out' to look like an hourglass. She looks so unique and feminine in her own way. You seem to have found your own way too :) have a lovely day

I just finished listening to the end of the video and felt quite sad that you had to experience such prejudice and ignorance. I think maybe in the UK it wouldn't be as extreme but women are often still viewed as being more feminine when dressing in a particular way. I feel women should acknowledge that the way we dress, wearing make up or not, how we cut our hair does not define our femininity. We are women that is enough.

Love your style! The "fashion show" at the beginning is thoroughly delightful. I also appreciate your thoughts on femininity. I am in my middle 60s and consciously embraced being nonbinary just two years ago. I mostly dress as I have always done in blue jeans, tee shirts, and sweaters. I kept my dresses, though, when I decluttered recently. I still like them. My thought is that we all get to decide how we want to dress, no matter how we identify in terms of gender.

I also buy from "fast fashion", once in a while. But as you, I make them last. Simple Zara camisoles, if well chosen and taken care of, last years: the problem is when people look at things as easily discardable. My mum knits my beanies, berets, and boot tops, even made me beautiful crochet bags. And, as you say, Lisbon has pretty good second hand shops. I bought recently two winter blazers for 5€ each. (Fortunately our winters are softer, even if this winter started quite cold - for Portugal)

I love your capsule wardrobe and think it fits you beautifully. It is so important that we stick to what feels good and right for us. By the way, there is an interesting style theory that takes into account how much yin or yang is expressed in our body. For the more Yang types, loose unstructured clothing is the perfect fit.
What to say about femininity? Maybe we should talk more about authenticity instead.

I would like very much to be your neighbor and go for coffee and walks. I hope this message comes well to you. Your essential winter items are lovely and good quality! You style them well. Your knitting skills are very nice. I find merino wool items at our thrift stores maybe one per year and I switch mine out occasionally. The 3 I wear often have small holes but they are so warm and I do not overheat. I have a down jacket that is very warm especially with my layers. I don’t like to keep many items that are only seasonal wear but only the essentials for our 3 months of cold. It rarely gets under 20F here but a few days of 10 degrees and many days in the 30s. I like your puffer coat! Is it down ? Or do you prefer synthetic fill ? I have a synthetic fill light jacket that is nice but prefer my down coat with a hood.
Ok sorry such a long message. Wish you were closer to visit. I look forward to your videos. They are very relaxing and calm. 🤗😍

I have parts of me and days when I feel and want to show more femininity and many days and aspects to me which are very masculine. So, I alternate between the two whenever I feel like it, but not without hesitance. I think feminine is more about being a tender and gentle person rather than wearing dresses. I've seen a lot of women wearing dresses a lot of makeup and high heels but being absolutely ruthless and selfish. For me the personality matters more then the appearance. By the way I love wearing jeans, T-shirts, hoodies and sneakers😅!

I loved the blue dress over the oker turtleneck. How you sat there it reminded me of a painting by Johannes Vermeer! The mittens (love this word in Englisch) too, so nice. My favorite clothes are oversized knitwear and jeans. Not that I need to look bigger at the moment 😅. I don't dress feminin either. I never really got a comment about it. Sometimes the remark that I schould wear a dress more but just as a nice suggestion. What I did noticed is that while going out with feminine dressing girlfriends, men just cast a quick glance at me and than keep talking and flirting with my friends, as if I am some creature coming from underneath a stone...

Ana, I love your videos and your unique minimalist style. I can definitely relate with being told I am not feminine enough. I actually felt that femininity was a very negative thing throughout my 20s as I grew up witnessing my mom being sexually abused and experienced assault / harrassment myself at work, so I tried to be as un-feminine as possible. Now in my mid 30s I have changed my mind, I no longer see femininity as a negative thing, and I have embraced some feminine aspects of my style and express them in a positive way that reflects who I am as a person. Thank you for your videos, please keep expressing yourself, I enjoy hearing you talk about your life in Siberia very much! From Canada. 🥰

Dressing in a way that caters to your own security and comfort - YES. I've always had a streetwear type of style and now that I'm 33 and mum of 2 I've started wondering if I need to start dressing more maturely even though my casual style suits my lifestyle. Essay incoming!
(Rolls eyes far enough to see my brain) The day people take to heart the "not my body - not my business" maxim, we will truly evolve as a species.
Having experienced bulling and harassment and being badly depressed through my youth, I've always felt very disconnected from my body, dressed very plainly and generically and, despite really having had won the genetic lottery, hated my looks, because my self-esteem in general was in the gutter. I only really took an interest of doing anything with my appearance at all in my twenties, several years into therapy, and soon after stumbled into the world of vintage and historical fashion and DIY and went "this is it, I found my people!" XD
And at some point I was just like, oh, what the hell, so what if someone thinks I'm weird, a show-off, or overdressed? Yes, I look like a Sunday morning kid's show host. Deal with it. It makes me feel better about myself and matches my larger than life personality that couldn't be crushed by any amount of bullshit life threw at me, and being extra beats being a petty judgemental asshole who copes with their own feelings of inadequacy by putting other people down. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also I found that taking care of my clothes, choosing outfits and doing elaborate colorful makeup helps stave off my depression and anxiety, forcing me to actually put effort into things and acknowledge my body and works like a grounding technique of sorts.
Your own wardrobe seems very sensible and fits your energy really well! You look very youthful and both upbeat and gentle. I legit thought you were in your early to mid-twenties like me at first, before you started talking about the collapse of USSR in your other video and I was like "wait a second" XD
I'm trying to sort out my life and looking for insight from somewhere other than my immediate surroundings, and I like your vibes and the whole "a sensitive mixed kid from the regions for whom generic idea of how life should be lived just doesn't work" relatable to a t, which is not something I get to experience much, so I think I'm going to stick around.
Blame the rambling and any typos on it being 4 in the morning.
    Love from Vologda!

@@anagoldberg haha, why, thank you! I am, in fact, a writer and a translator, a hobbyist for now, but moving slowly in the direction of monetization.
I wear a lot of skirts and dresses and waiscoats over bright, often heavily patterned shirts and blouses, with flashy jewelry (mainly earrings and brooches), and either up-dos with combs and pins, or, with current hair length, big, poofy vintage curls (I needed to mark a point of no return in my life so I shaved my waist-length mane clean a year and a half ago). I don't have many good photos now, but I was thinking of making a gallery of looks to make choosing outfits and remembering all the options easier (I have ADHD and my object permanence is whack, out of sight - out of mind), so I could hit you up when I'm done with it.

The fact that you feel the need to talk about the topic of femininity, and that you seem to be slightly apologetic about it, confirms that there is a weird double standard at work at the moment: On the one hand, everybody is talking about (in fact, celebrating) "gender fluidity", but at the same time there is this sickening cult of hyper-femininity (big bum, big tits, big hair) far worse than the beauty stereotypes of the 1950s imposed upon women (partly, of course, because there is a 24/7 exposure to these stereotypes in social media). I grew up in the 1970s and 80s and for me the present feels endlessly regressive. There was so much androgyny around in my childhood and youth, so many cool and smart female role models .... I don't know what happened since then and when the shift took place. To not play along takes a lot of courage and resilience. For here's another double standard: although "difference" comes at a premium today, when women dare to be different (i.e. by doing harmless things such as wearing comfortable shoes and eschewing the nail varnish), they are certain to become targets of spite for not doing what they are apparently expected to do. (Unfortunately, there is convincing research that women are far more judgmental about other women on Instagram etc. than men.)
I have been wondering how cold it is in Siberia right now (and on average). The name triggers visions of snowdrifts and permafrost.

I am now in my 50s and believe that it is important to embrace the true person that you are. If someone has a negative opinion of you it is usually because they are an unhappy person that thrives on making others miserable. I think you are cute and that being feminine is over rated, as long as you are happy you should continue to be who you are.

I found this very interesting and insightful. My style is very different, the important thing is that we all evolve to be ourselves. Comfort is important to me, too, and the climate I live in partly dictates that, as well as the life I lead. I‘m sure it‘s the same for you.
As a knitter, I love sheep wool. The warmest is „rustic“ wool that hasn‘t been superwash treated, it traps air better and that keeps you warmer (many wools from Scandinavia and the UK are rustic). Superwash is a plastic coating so not good for people or the environment - but it‘s what prevents felting, so a lot of people like that they can put it in the washing machine. Cotton knits aren‘t very warm in comparison and if wool gets wet it will still keep you warm, which other fibres don‘t. Definitely make yourself some fun legwarmers!! Or some long socks… 😉

    • @anagoldberg
      @anagoldberg  2 года назад +1

I was surprised when you said you wanted to get rid of the pretty dark red dress with white dots on it, but I get it if it’s something to do with association to something bad that happened when you were wearing it, maybe try adding something to it, I find changing things slightly so it’s not the picture of the memory, maybe add some lace around the collar, the edges of the sleeves and the bottom of the dress, or if it’s long sleeved make it shorter, or cut the dress shorter by a few inches maybe if it would be appropriate, and if it still doesn’t help, maybe pass it along to a friend or family member, I’m sure someone could still make use of it.

Also I would love a link to the Belarus lady who made your beautiful linen dress. Does she have an Etsy shop?

I'm glad you liked the video and the dress!:) I'm not sure about the etsy shop, but she definitely has Instagram (uses the name 'lenlimon')

Thank you for sharing your perspective and lifestyle with us. It is a very thoughtful approach which I admire. I have been trying to minimize my possessions and be more mindful in my lifestyle also but that is a little difficult due to my maximalist and collecting tendencies. I also love to craft but have a fear of running out of supplies. Something for me to work on in the future i suppose.
