BLACK DOVES was adequate. That's the word I'd describe the series. Episode 5 is where BLACK DOVES lost me. The moment when Helen, a mother, placed Michael, a father, and Ruby in danger after the shootout was one of the most contrived scenes the writers conjured up. I absolutely hated that. I absolutely loathed the writers for coming up with that storyline.
I totally get it, but that was her 'normal life'. As the life that she has with her husband is the life that she's been tasked to live. So she doesn't truly enjoy it
@@BrainPilot agreed. And I felt that introducing the assistant character to ‘replace’ Helen helped solidify the idea of Helen as occupational wife. Her flashbacks of the affair were romanticized in order to humanize Helen and help us rationalize her vengeance.
I think the romanticizing it makes it more messed up (in a good way) Way more interesting to have the viewer experience the complexities and deceit of her whole situation. Wallace does deserve better, but baby steps. And I think Helen does wish happiness for him, and hopefully she can come clean one day. But first, spy business that will no doubt threaten his life
It seems like every show to come out of Netflix romanticizes cheating. This show just seems like writers projecting yet another feminist revenge fetish. It's slop for the masses.
This show was mid at best. You have the defense secretary’s wife who’s a spy but she walking around killing people and doing spy stuff with her whole face showing. That didn’t make sense to me at all. Her whole vengeance thing for the man she supposedly loved who was an undercover MI5 agent. The flashbacks didn’t make me feel anything, I’m sorry I just didn’t care for that part of the show. Her husband is so amazing such a good man who deserves better. I mean for a women who claims she loves her family and wants to protect them she was ready to put them all at risk for her vengeance ugh. I loved Sam though and the assassin girls.
I don't know if the Secretary of Defense in the UK would be like in the US. If it is anything similar, then the wife of the Secretary of Defense would be WAYYY to powerful to lean on like Reed was leaning on Helen. I thought it rather ridiculous that Helen would fall for a honey-trap. She is supposed to be a spy and she fell so hard for a stranger. She honestly thought this guy just happened to to banging the wife of the Secretary of Defense....not very smart. I did think the production values were high and I did like the show. But I do like spy shows.
What I don’t understand is how Helen killed that agent in the elevator where there is clearly a security camera inside it. It shows when is about to get in the elevator. Even if there was no camera inside the elevator . Well a US embassy should be filled with cameras everywhere, with little investigation they can easily know that she was last seen with that agent.
Yeah, but I’m glad Michael got that mediocre man out of his life. Michael can do so much better. He gave Sam way too many second chances. I was starting to question his self esteem.
I think Sam could've stayed with Michael (clearly Michael was more than ready to forgive him and give it another try) but he chose not to because he's being honest with himself and he's realizing the danger he'd be putting Michael and his family in, and he can't live with that. But Helen stayed where she was in an unhappy marriage, realizing that her family will always be in danger because of what she's done. Helen can sleep just fine with that, for her it was more important to have her revenge than to make sure her family is safe, but Sam can't.
As A huge fan of the new Assassin show called Day of The Jackal 2024, loving all these spy thrillers lately espionage etc might be my fav genre🍿 boutta Pause watch this & finish the vid thanks Brainpiolt for the recommendation gonna🐐
The last two episodes I was distracted by wanting Michael to get that mediocre man out of his life! He gave Sam way too many second chances. I was starting to question Michael’s self-esteem!
The timeline at the end didn't seem right. Reed stated that the killing happened to Jason after wallace told Yarrick and a cover up started. However the scene depicted between Wallace and Yarrick talking about the video evidence was at Jasons memorial. Helen was listening to the conversation via rhe microphone she had placed in the flower as a remebrance to Jason. Or am i getting confused somewhere?
Same here, what triggered Trent to follow Phillip? From what I understand Trent was alarmed due to Yarrick went to the Clarks to tell that theyve been compromised because of Wallace confronted him, but it was after all the killing
I getting that but if you losten to what Reed said as she explains it she states that Yarrick got involved with the Clarkes after Wallace confronts him and has that conversation. It makes it sound like that conversation caused the series of events that led to Jasons death. Maybe I just misunderstood it but I keep watching the explanation by Reed and my brain keeps interpreting it as being a blip in the time line.
Yes, that is how she states it. Wallace confronted Yarrick about the journalist’s (Bray) accusation about he recording. Yarrick tips off the Clarks and Trent follows Bray (or has him followed) where he discovers Maggie and Jason when they all meet. And discovers Helen when she meets Jason afterwards. That’s how Trent knows all of the players so he can have them killed. And as you note, the confrontation between Wallace and Yarrick happens at Jason’s memorial, blowing up the timeline. I thought it was odd that Wallace waited to confront Yarrick until they were in public at a memorial. I guess they needed a way for Helen to over hear it, though why she would think anyone would be talking about anything worth while at the memorial is beyond me. 0:09
It was kinda annoying how obsessed she was with him when she had a loving husband at home with beautiful family. Also didn’t like the ending, poor Sam gave up everything and pretty sure they will get revenge and kill him and Michael etc. it should have been her and then with her becoming the First Lady she will have lots of protection so they can’t get to her.
Yes, I totally agree. I think that didn't make sense to the audience. She only known the man for 3 months and had a loving husband and children at home.
My biggest criticism of the show is that it can't decide if it wants to take itself seriously or be campy. I can accept Helen having secret compartments in her wardrobe and car, and even shootouts where our protagonists are bullet proof while the army of baddies in the warehouse all meet their ends. Along with a street shootout between government agencies on foreign soil (ok that was utterly ridiculous). But what was so unacceptable to me was that Helen goes on her quest for revenge with her face plastered everywhere! She's not the wife of some low-level civil servant, her face is in the news it is in Google searches. And she's beautiful so people are going to remember her. There's absolutely no way she can walk through a US embassy and only be recognized by the one person she came to visit. No way she can go to a jewelry store and knock out a guy especially the same store where an employee was recently brutally killed with the story all over the news. I think the show would have been more interesting if she did a lot of these things in the shadows, or actually wore disguises (aka Alias). I also think the writers led us into the emotional woman trope. Starting in the episode with Helen's flashback we're told that she's calculating and looking ahead. And yet so many of her decisions seem completely impulsive. Why would she tell the landlord that she was Jason's partner? Again, going back to her face being well known. But she also didn't have any other exit plan when she was in the flat. After the rocket launcher shootout, she had no safe house to go? Instead bringing a shot up woman, a CIA agent, to Michael's flat Knowing exactly how Michael was put into danger 8 years prior that she herself was pulled into danger being pregnant. Why would she bring that danger to Michael? If she was as calculating as we were told, why wouldn't she tell Sam that Michaels is the last place that they should be? I mean they could have picked some down in the dumps motel to regroup. Williams works for Lenny, why couldn't she have called Lenny for an off-grid medical resource... I'm sure crime bosses like Lenny have plenty. Overall I think the premise was ok. But they couldn't seem to stick to the rules that they create. And that's what really took me out of the suspension of disbelief.
Enjoyed the show. One nit pick is she never explains why she was MIA so much throughout the show. Does her husband just blindly trusts her because he loves her and that's it? Kind of left him out to be a cuck. Felt like they needed to do a better job of cleaning that up. Would love to see a second season.
In my opinion, it was super boring. Too many characters that I didn’t care about. I only finished it because I wanted to know who Jason really was and because I don’t like to not finish shows. Finding out about Jason and everything at the end wasn’t worth it. Idk why this show was in top 10.. 2/5 for me
Just finished watching the show. I think it has some interesting characters and great character chemistry. The comic relief was also a pleasant surprise for me, as I was expecting a spy thriller with a much grimmer tone. However, I do think the titular organization, Black Doves, needs more fleshing out, which is all the more reason to hope for a second season or more.
I am totally baffled why they stick this gay sub storyline in this and almost every other popular show coming out these days. Having to endure, watching him have sodomy sex with another individual who we just met and also a protracted amount of time spent with his gay London, Friends has nothing to do with understanding his character. It’s just gratuitous. It’s just filler. And in a sho that purports to be some serious, you know spy drama this kind of fluff is not only common but unnecessary and unwelcome.
I think it would have been better if Jason didn't love Helen. Helen's identity could have remained intact if Jason was killed before he submitted his report. What an emotional rollercoaster Helen would be on knowing that she went through all the revenge for nothing. I think the show chickened out at the end which was a disappointment for me.
While I do think it would have been better if Jason didn't love Helen. It would destroy the plot or at least create a hole, if he was killed while investigating Helen before he submitted the report. It would have been all eyes on Helen again.
The weak point is Wallace being a blabber mouth. The only time he didn't answer Helen's questions about what was happening in the gov't is when he thought she was having an affair. If he learned to keep his mouth shut, Jason wouldn't have been sent into Helen's life... and thus the rest of the show. The rest of the plot was solid. The writers should have had more about Wallace learning to keep mum.
Her relationship with her husband is part of her job. She is not necessarily in love with him. The commenters here upset by her affair are forgetting this. She was with Jason for longer than 3 months. She was lying when she said that to her boss, I think. I liked that it was 6 episodes and did not have a lot of filler.

The affair itself and her being in love with him made no sense. He wasn't a high school sweetheart or some old lost love. She just met him and she has a husband and kids at home and yet obsessed with finding his killer.

what do you mean " lack and brown environment" we didn't see the environment of either couple. only the interior of their homes. london is a very diverse city. why must all blk and brown ppl live on top of each other on a slum? let's be real, you're mad they had nice apartments and it didn't look like they lived in a h00d somewhere, when that in itself is a stereotypical, ignorant and stereotypical way of thinking smh i like how shows are showing different representation instead of hoods, illiteracy and struggle when it comes to minority stories in the media bc that side of our world exists as well smh
What did you think of Black Doves? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
Still underrated and I hope a season two comes
Saw the trailer, can't relate to it when there's a genocide going on thanks to the UK government 🇵🇸

I am not sure
Yes. Surprised the reviewer didn’t mention this.
That's why I came here to find out, lol.Upate: Apparently, it is her, maybe their related (which i doubt it), or she's a black dove in training.

what do you mean " lack and brown environment" we didn't see the environment of either couple. only the interior of their homes. london is a very diverse city. why must all blk and brown ppl live on top of each other on a slum? let's be real, you're mad they had nice apartments and it didn't look like they lived in a h00d somewhere, when that in itself is a stereotypical, ignorant and stereotypical way of thinking smh i like how shows are showing different representation instead of hoods, illiteracy and struggle when it comes to minority stories in the media bc that side of our world exists as well smh
@@strwbrybabyg245 I was born and raised in 1954 just 2 miles from Brixton and Peckham. I could tell you or write a small book on what I witnessed.
Interracial couples are super cliche and lame at this point.
