Huge Kate Bush fan from NC and I have listened to her since around 1987. This album completely blew me away when it came out and Rocket's Tail remains one of my favorite songs. Am also a huge Pink Floyd fan so this was an amazing bonus to have both!

Wonderful reaction to an awesome track. This what Kate said about this one: I wrote this for the trio, really, musically, in that I wanted a song that could really show them off. The other two songs that they appear on were already structured and in a way they had to very much fit around the song's structure to become a part of it, but this song they were there en masse, really, the whole song was based around them. And I wrote it on a synthesizer with a choir sound and just sang along. We put John's on and I had no idea if their voices were going to work on it at all, really, so the whole thing hung on the fact of whether when we went out to Bulgaria, whether it worked or not. And the arranger we worked with out there was such a brilliant man. In some ways, I think that the fact that we didn't speak the same language made our communication much easier because he seemed to know exactly what I wanted, and, really, just after a few hours he was coming up with the most incredible tunes, and I just had to say "Oh yes, I like that one", "Er, no, not too keen on that one," "Umm, that's lovely!" and just go away and write it out. It was incredible, I've never worked like that before, so quickly with someone I've never met before. It was really exciting to find that kind of chemistry. (...)
Rocket is one of my cats, and he was the inspiration for the subject matter for the song, because he's dead cute [laughs]. And it's very strange subject matter because the song isn't exactly about Rocket, it's kind of inspired by him and for him, but the song, it's about anything. I guess it's saying there's nothing wrong with being right here at this moment, and just enjoying this moment to its absolute fullest, and if that's it, that's ok, you know. And it's kind of using the idea of a rocket that's so exciting for maybe 3 seconds and then it's gone, you know that's it, but so what, it had 3 seconds of absolutely wonderful... LOVED this song before I knew it was Gilmour and before I knew all the words (I tend not to pay attention much). When I read the lyrics, my jaw dropped. What an amazing dichotomy between His worldview and Hers! And then she shot off into the night! Brilliant on multiple levels. She's amazing. Definitely my favourite song on "The Sensual World" and out of the six collaborations with The Trio Bulgarka (there another three on "The Red Shoes") also my overall favourite. While I had heard already some of Kate's single hits in the early eighties on the radio, I first really got into her music in 1990 (at a time when I had been listening nearly exclusively to metal - preferably Thrash - for several years) and I bought all of her albums within a few weeks. I'm especially thankful for her collaboration with the Trio Bulgarka, because it introduced me to Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares (The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices - as this Bulgarian female choir is called nowadays), which I also saw live a few times in the early nineties and it was absolutely fantastic! Five years ago, The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices did a collaboration with another one of my favourite female singers, namely Lisa Gerrard (the female half of Dead Can Dance) and I consider myself lucky I managed to attend one of their concerts. Kate Bush definitely has fans in the USA (although I'm not sure how many). My sister introduced me to her in the mid 90s--her greatest hits album (though I think my sister also had The Kick Inside). "Withering Heights" was the first song I'd ever heard from her, and I was hooked. When I met my wife-to-be in 2001, she owned Hounds of Love and The Red Shoes, and I was pretty darn impressed (although our musical tastes don't really overlap that much). Anyway, this track is new to me, and I love it! (P.S. Our church's music minister, who is a huge Kate Bush fan, can sing a lot like Kate Bush's--could probably do covers of her stuff for a living.) Well, great reaction!

When the Artemis I launch was delayed until November and was scheduled as a night launch this song immediately popped into my head. If you have never seen a launch in person, that explosive buildup fits well with the roar and power of a rocket taking off. Have been a fan of Kate Bush since high school when Hound of Love came out.

I think that's it's safe to say that Kate's more well known in America now! 😀 I'm so glad that a whole new generation has the opportunity to be exposed to her music and I hope that some will decide to dive into her extensive catalogue.
Had the amazing privelege of seeing Kate Bush live in London in 2014 and what an incredible show it was!! Dropped into the pub close to the theatre before and was really struck how many Americans were there who had managed to get tickets and flown over for just for the show. Was so nice chatting to them. Great reaction video.

I predict we will soon see a 'new' voice that'll take the space Kate invented. And to younger people, that person (or their record label) will at least appear to have invented that rare phrasing style and tone. I love iconoclastic originals like her, Floyd, Laurie Anderson, Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie. You just never knew what to expect other than something brilliant.

As a Kate Bush fan I'm going to assume,if you've not had the pleasure yet, you're going to dig Eivor (she's from the Faroe islands and her vocals have a distinct Kate Bush feel + much more). Tracks I always play to introduce her to people are : Into the mist. Salt. The swing. Trollabunden (sang in her native Faroese) I absolutely love her catalogue, most of which have been released in Faroese and English. She's awesome! Edit : Falling Free live is a standout also. So good.

Nobody else but Kate Bush, or maybe Cocteau Twins, could have made this collaboration work. There is actual footage of Kate and the Trio Bulgarka on RUclips rehearsing. Of course Kate would pair up Yanka Rupkina’s vocal solo with David Gilmour’s guitar solo. Obviously.

I was living in Edinburgh when "Wuthering Heights" came out in the U.K. - the name Kate Bush was unknown to me. It was like a shift in the Space/Time continuum - "uniquely talented" barely covers it. In retrospect I feel that she did not prosper in the U.S.A. because of her originality and quirkiness - too much for the pap-fed, money driven music mill that was California and New York.
Yeah, it's a shame she wasn't bigger there.

kate said that but obviously there is a little bit more to that. did you recognise the words in the lyrics form reasonable sentences with semantic meaningful content ?
@@solarialuna Well there's often quite a large gap between what Kate says is the stimulus for a song and what the lyrics seem to be saying, I mean look at Get Out Of My House, she said that was inspired by Alien, and The Shining, and the lyrics are far darker and traumatic and point to something far deeper. Kate has often said that she bases her songs on things she's read about or imagined because her life isn't very interesting, but sometimes I think she uses that as an easy out when she doesn't want to talk about the song.
You need to listen to more Kate Bush. She's a great composer.

The song, the singing, the musical performances - they all beggar belief, but it's the drummer that puts it over the top for me. Dude loses a bit more of his mind with every pass through the chord changes; by the end, he's reverted to an animal.

I love Kate Bush. And I love this song. And I'll never get why anyone can make money by posting "first listen reaction" vids. If you don't know her, and you don't know this song, your reaction is worth less than a used condom. Maybe twice used. The Gilmor bit is especially disappointing. He has great effects but as a player, he is a very predictable (and therefore boring) pentatonic box player. The real brilliance of this song is the way Kate used the Trio Bulgarka. Amazing. TImeless. Unique. Gilmour ... meh. And of course her lyrics ... no one can touch her.
Nobody makes any more from these videos other than the artists. Didn't do it for the money, just for a bit of fun.
