I like Assembly square because it looks outstanding, has many great techniques and colors, and creates a bit more sidewalk frontage for scenes. I would put it higher than 10, maybe five. I agree the bags in each step are out of control. We needed two full size lunch trays and two dinner size plates to sort parts 😳🥴😣
My favorite is probably the detective's office. So much story potential, the outside is amazing, and interior really leaves nothing to be desired. Thanks for putting it in the top three!
a school would be great, definitely a museum of any kind (except for maybe an art museum) but the architecture style and unique pieces to include would be really nice. Personally, I want more residential buildings, more townhouses like the one included with the pet shop but larger and more detailed. An apartment building could be a good alternative too. Wow, very strong hot takes here. It seems like you valued the interior just as much as the exterior when making the rankings. My top three would be Brick Bank, Assembly Square, and Boutique hotel just for the exterior looks alone.

i was also gonna say something about Assembly Square- haha 😐. i feel like TLG is going the wrong direction for Modulars and Trains. Their Best in Class are from another time…
I am a little split on the museum. I haven’t purchased it yet because focusing on Christmas gifts and such but I will get it eventually. It’s tough for me to say, because I love Dino’s and I’ve wanted a museum for my city, so much so I bought another police station and Assembly square to do a Dino exhibit rebrickable model a few months ago, but now not sure what to do…but honestly at this moment, I don’t like the exterior color
I just recently got the Jazz club and its my first modular set, I just got the first section done and I'm on to the second floor, I can't wait to finish it
Hey Brickafide, with the pending release of the modular Museum I’m really excited and wanna get into modulars. Out of the current available sets, which modular would you recommend I start with?
I would start with police station or assembly square because those are about to retire by the end of year. Otherwise, I think the book shop is a great one to start with!
It's a matter of taste. But I really totally don't agree much with this ranking at all haha. Like how on earth does the greengrocer become higher than Assembly Square and Boutique hotel. For me number. 1 I think is the detective's office. Number 2 I put Parisian restaurant. number 3. Assembly Square and number 4 boutique hotel. The funny thing is that if I am not mistaken. All of these modulars are all designed by the same guy. But you can correct me if I am wrong. And I rank all of these mainly in how they look. Not at how much a city needs them or if the building process is frustrating. I rank these with what i consider the nicest details and nicest overall look. The only thing that is a bit different in the way I rank it is Diner Restaurant. Because Diner I think. Is probably the best designed in building techniques. The guy that it designed also does not normally do modular buildings. He mainly builds things like cars and the Titanic if I am not mistaken. He is probably the best Lego designer. And I think I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one to think so. He just really thinks outside the box so the speak. Can do things with angles and upside down inside out and whatnot. That you go. What the x@!X??? But with the diner I'm just not to crazy about how it looks. Even though the looks work well with 50s theme. Regarding the town hall. I think it is big and bulky. And that makes it kind of nice. But I don't find an interesting build in terms of how it was designed, The female designer that designed it also did the movie theater. And that one is really underrated in my opinion. It looks better in real life than it does in photos let me first say that. And the one thing that nobody seems to notice or give it credit for is the fact that despite of being such an unusual-looking building. It does fit in any city lineup. It's definitely not a building filler. it is really an eye-catcher especially if you add lights to it. What I recommend you always do with all your building. And I think that is pretty amazing. That you can make something unique and still make it like it belongs to all the other modulars. And I think it i far more interesting then the boring city hall.
The sanctum is good, a lot of interior details and great figures. I’ve always thought it was one of the best until I owned it. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy it and the old MCU, but I do find it a little boring on the exterior. It’s not one that I usually glance at versus others. That being said I would say approximately at half the pack, maybe a little higher than the middle of the list
Unpopular opinion: I dislike the townhall, it just doesn't really interest me and I feel like it just looks awkward places in cities due to its size and also somehow feels a bit flat to me? I'm not really sure how that makes sense cause it's not like the facade is actually flat, but it just feels like it lacks dimension lol, idk I'm just not really a fan and would prefer something with a bit more curb appeal, just something with a bit more visual interest, but that's just my take
I respect your opinion and I can see where you are coming from. I think I like it’s size and it also really appeals to me because it’s one that I really want to own just haven’t forfeited the cash yet so maybe that has something to do with my feelings on it. It just always one of the first things that catches my eye when I see it in a city
@brickafide that makes perfect sense, I'm a bit like that with the downtown dinner, it looks incredible and the overall uniqueness of the design always caught my eye, on its own I think it looks great, but next to other modulars I have to admit it looks a bit awkward, it's like a corner building that was just given up on and made a regular building last minute lol, but I've always just been drawn to it and overlooked certain aspects so I for sure get what you're syaing, I do gotta admit tho, the townhall for sure does get my attention everytime I see it in a city, it is definitely a stand out building
Lol. I didn’t add them because although they are Modular and in most city’s, they aren’t technically apart of the “Modular Building” subtheme sets. They are great though!
Your selections are excellent, though I can’t comment on the older retired sets, because I’ve been only being a lego’er for about 1 1/2 years. I have most if not all the current modular sets, but would LOVE TO be able to buy the older retired sets. I really don’t like to buy from Brick Link. I had a bad experience as I tried to buy from 1 seller, paid my money, but received nothing and never got a response. Can any one suggest how I may be able to buy some of the older retired sets? I would truly appreciator r help and guidance. Thank you a lot garylatz
I have had success with eBay. They have good buyer protection just make sure returns are eligible. Otherwise going to lego conventions is another great way or lego resell places like bricks and Minifigs. I would stay away from Facebook market place or similar, you can get a good deal but there’s just so many scams, never send money before hand
@@brickafide I'm just saying that the jazz club bears a resemblance to many old movie palaces I've been to before, and would be a nice facade for a full-depth theater. The fire station could also work, having similar architecture.
Parisian restaurant is my favorite. I work in a restaurant so there’s a personal thing there. Plus it’s simply beautiful. Come to think of it I don’t own any other sets like the Modular’s that depict real every day life. So the things I do or what I’m into personally can be found within these sets. I like boxing and I play music. So the diner is my second favorite. I’m all about the 1950’s diner aesthetic and it all comes together for me. Then my 3rd is actually Brick Bank. I’m a huge fan of heist movies. This is the greatest bank set ever made. A vault. Multiple tellers. Executive office. The story there is great. It’s at number 3 for me because I love those types of movies and I have robbers set up in my bank now. As far as literal play goes, I don’t see what gets better than having the police station and the bank and having a bunch of cops and robbers.
I can’t argue with you there! And yes the brick bank has come around to being one of my favorite as I slowly buy all of these older Modular’s. It will be higher in an update video January of next year
@@brickafide I’m in the process of buying not all of them, but collecting many. I have 4 currently. Looking to get the police station before it retires probably this year, and after that I’m saving up for awhile for Town Hall. There’s others I want before that one but Town Hall seems to be the hardest/most expensive to get. Best to get it before its harder and more expensive haha. I’ve come to love the business commercial style of Brick Bank, Corner Garage, and Emporium. All corner buildings too. They just have a nice “office building” style kind of architecture along with plain and simple colors. Nice to get those along with the other crazier modulars like Diner and Jazz Club.
@@warhead5225 you got a good plan. I have all the ones because the assembly square and Persian. Looking to pick up palace cinema and emporium next week hopefully
@@brickafide I have assembly. Highly recommend. To me the left building above the cafe kind of felt like an afterthought but that building and the 2 others are absolutely beautiful on the outside. The fountain is very charming. And if you’re building a city, assembly fills out the space of 2 Modular’s. The other 2 buildings are packed with detail. No wasted spaces or empty areas. I was amazed about everything that was going into these little spaces. It’s not my favorite set of them all, but it’s perhaps the most important. For anyone who gets only one modular ever, that’s the one they should and probably would get. It’s basically a street block on its own.
I like alot of your rankings but would definitely place town hall well down the list. Very little story, interior is lacking and despite its size the exterior is bland when compared to some of the other modulars. I would also place boutique hotel much higher and probably place the corner garage and grand emporium slightly lower. Thanks for your vid
Hey, the first set is always hard to place because of that nostalgic value and what it meant to you. I totally understand. All the Modular’s are great, it’s the hardest list I have ever had to put together! Thanks for the comment, glad to hear your thoughts!

I generally don't like set ranking videos because they are all subjective based upon the authors personal opinion. That said, I completely disagree with most of your list. Palace Cinema is at the bottom and my top three are #3 Assembly Square, #2 Town Hall #1 is Cafe Corner. I personally couldn't care less about the interior as I don't play dolly house with them, they are display only. Also, given that the new Museum is out, my opinion is that it's the ugliest color they could have used.
@@brickafide nice 👍. And maybe for next time you can also include another “modular” like daily bugle, sanctum sanctorum, haunted house, and the newest but no yet released avengers tower in the ranking list 😆.
I personally think yes, it is a modular. However, Lego doesn't explicitly label it as one from the main line of modular's and their branding. I will definitely consider putting it in a future update list but on the first go around I wanted to make it explicitly the "Modular Theme"
My favourite one was the Emporium because the billboard looks cool and I am a severe shopaholic also I like the "shop" on top of that the colour scheme looks really nice! BUT I have to disagree that you placed Assembly Square 10th THAT is a crime. I also do not know why you added the Town hall as 1 it honestly looks kinda ugly
I do like the emporium, it sets behind me at my desk and so does the Town Hall. IDK I just love the Town hall and as for Assembly Square, I think it ranked it lower than it could have been placed because I do believe it is still a little overhyped, at least in todays time.
I think Parisian Restaurant is objectively the best modular, but Grand Emporium will always be my favorite cause it was my first. I like the Police Station and Fire Brigade, but feel like they date your city by being so old-timey. Grand Emporium feels like it could exist in any time period, to me at least
The cafe corner got me out of my Lego dark age so it’ll always have a special place in my heart… I have all of em except market street (I’m one of the few that don’t count it as an official modular) but my favorite is the detective’s office. Being in healthcare, I would really like a hospital at some point.
Yes! A full 2 wide base plates or at least 1.5 baseplate hospital or a public school would be awesome! Thanks for the short story also, it’s always great to learn about what got people out of their dark ages haha

They should do some kind of YMCA building. It could have a gym, pool, juice bar, etc.
Nice item, good storytelling. Still, I don't quite understand the Brick Bank, it's definitely in my top 5 :)
My Personal top 3 are the Police station, the Jazz club and the Boutique Hotel because of its great Detail
i was also gonna say something about Assembly Square- haha 😐. i feel like TLG is going the wrong direction for Modulars and Trains. Their Best in Class are from another time…
Just curious, where would you rank the natural history museum?
I am a little split on the museum. I haven’t purchased it yet because focusing on Christmas gifts and such but I will get it eventually. It’s tough for me to say, because I love Dino’s and I’ve wanted a museum for my city, so much so I bought another police station and Assembly square to do a Dino exhibit rebrickable model a few months ago, but now not sure what to do…but honestly at this moment, I don’t like the exterior color
Really wordy and disorganized response on my part but been a long day 😮💨
I love the diner but i think the palace cinema better for some reason.
That’s a difficult one
My top 3 are the book store for 1st, the police station for 2nd, and the brick bank for 3rd
I NEEDED this !
I’m glad that it satisfied!
I just recently got the Jazz club and its my first modular set, I just got the first section done and I'm on to the second floor, I can't wait to finish it
That's epic! I am glad that another person has been turned over to the dark side! haha Now you will probably want to own them all!
@@brickafide pfft
Very great list, I agree with most of the picks, good job👌
Thank you for your thoughts and encouragement!
But a lot of people really enjoy the boutique hotel so maybe that one would be good if you like how it looks!
Okay awesome, thanks!
I think I’m leaning towards the book shop because I’m not really interested in the police station and the assembly square seems overrated lol
@@g3entertainment627 haha sounds like you have been in Modular’s for a while! (Psst, my first was the bookshop!)
Number 18 could be potential for a Rdr2 theme (Saint Denis) or turn of the century Victorian style
Where would you place the Sanctum Sanctorum in this ranking? I understand the type of building is totally different, but if we give it a go..
I like the Jazz club A LOT probably top five for me
Nice!
your videos are really well made, I'm surprised you dont have over 1,000 subscribers
Thank you very much! Needed that today haha! But I am glad you liked it, I have a similar one coming out today at 4:00 PM but of the Lego Ideas sets!
Saw brick bank on the last place and immediately turned off the video
Now you'll never know why!
2 sets you forgot are dr stranges sanctum and the daily bugle I get it why it wasn’t included it would have take first or second by default
Lol. I didn’t add them because although they are Modular and in most city’s, they aren’t technically apart of the “Modular Building” subtheme sets. They are great though!
Don’t you think it would be cool if there was a Modular museum? And have like a cafe next to it.
Sorry for the late response but YES! Check out the dino museum Modular on Rebrickable! I need to get that myself!
guess your dream came true!
I can’t believe that the brickbank is place 16. it’s my first house.
I am sorry for that! It’s still great because all the Modular’s are!
The emporium and assembly square have to be better on the ranking no way
Your selections are excellent, though I can’t comment on the older retired sets, because I’ve been only being a lego’er for about 1 1/2 years.
Thank you a lot
garylatz
I have had success with eBay. They have good buyer protection just make sure returns are eligible. Otherwise going to lego conventions is another great way or lego resell places like bricks and Minifigs. I would stay away from Facebook market place or similar, you can get a good deal but there’s just so many scams, never send money before hand
I think if you made it two deep, the jazz club might be a good basis for a theatre. Of course doing that would cost an additional $200.
Or one could mod their one and only jazz club if they chose
@@brickafide I'm just saying that the jazz club bears a resemblance to many old movie palaces I've been to before, and would be a nice facade for a full-depth theater. The fire station could also work, having similar architecture.
Today I learned nineteenth century movie theatres existed and had red interior carpets.
That they did
Brick Bank at number 16!!! That is literally my favorite modular building. I am so confused,
Parisian restaurant is my favorite.
Ha! Everyone rates things so differently. I think that’s great, actually. 😊
This list is objectively wrong.
Sounds subjective
Brick Bank, Detectives Office and Assembly Square are my top 3!
Love the detectives office! And I have started to come around on the brick bank recently. It should be higher on the list come next year
I don’t understand who you would put the bank that as that bad a # it’s in my top 5 maybe 3
I LOVE LEGO CREATOR EXPERT THEY'RE JUST AWESOME
That they are!
Me with 0 modulars: hmmm yes o agree yes i concur
Lmao
I like alot of your rankings but would definitely place town hall well down the list. Very little story, interior is lacking and despite its size the exterior is bland when compared to some of the other modulars. I would also place boutique hotel much higher and probably place the corner garage and grand emporium slightly lower. Thanks for your vid
I appreciate your thoughts and opinions! Nice little list you got going on. Thanks for the comment!
Great Choices, only thing Id disagree with is the Bank, but thats probably because it was my very first set
Hey, the first set is always hard to place because of that nostalgic value and what it meant to you. I totally understand. All the Modular’s are great, it’s the hardest list I have ever had to put together! Thanks for the comment, glad to hear your thoughts!
Downtown Diner and Assembly Square too low imo.
Thank you for your thoughts! They are all great, just personal opinion. I wish they could all be number one!
@@brickafide yeah fair.
Nice video! Sweet sets. Thanks for sharing. New Subscriber and regular viewer incoming. Have an awesome one.
Hey thanks! I really appreciate it and glad that you are here!
Keeping my fingers crossed for a Hospital or Post Office
Hospital or school for me! Like a 1.5 or 2 baseplate monster of a set!
They should have a lego store as a modular building
I’m glad you mentioned that! I have created a custom one based on x3 of set 40574! You can checkout my review of the original set and my plans for the Modular or go to my home page and check out the Community Tab where I have some pictures of the build I have created.
Video soon, just trying to make the Rebrickable.com instructions first!
4:33 no way that is made up of 32 cafe corners
Totally yes way dudeee
I generally don't like set ranking videos because they are all subjective based upon the authors personal opinion. That said, I completely disagree with most of your list. Palace Cinema is at the bottom and my top three are #3 Assembly Square, #2 Town Hall #1 is Cafe Corner. I personally couldn't care less about the interior as I don't play dolly house with them, they are display only. Also, given that the new Museum is out, my opinion is that it's the ugliest color they could have used.
The corner garage should definitely be lower
I like your thoughts & opinion. But i disagree with the brick bank 😁.
I appreciate your view points and yes, I have also come around on the Brick Bank and in a future update video it will be ranked higher.
@@brickafide nice 👍. And maybe for next time you can also include another “modular” like daily bugle, sanctum sanctorum, haunted house, and the newest but no yet released avengers tower in the ranking list 😆.
@@Gigantic889 I will consider it for sure!
Can the sanctum sanctorum be considered a modular??
I personally think yes, it is a modular. However, Lego doesn't explicitly label it as one from the main line of modular's and their branding. I will definitely consider putting it in a future update list but on the first go around I wanted to make it explicitly the "Modular Theme"
To add, I would say the Sanctum is more of a modular in my eyes then the Factory set which I ranked lowest.
Ok, thanks for elaborating man👍
Can’t wait for the updated tier list.
Pet shop should be higher.
Thanks for your opinion! I would love for it to be higher but the final product just doesn’t do it enough for me
Fire Brigade, Police station, and detective office, for me!
Nice! It always surprises me how good the detectives office truly is.
Ranking the bookshop so low is insanity.
Yeah, I have grown as I have acquired more Modular’s. I’ll have an update list at some point with some new views and rankings
Pretty controversial list you've made here lol.
Wasn’t the original intention. Just my thoughts. But thanks for the comment!
The assembly square at 10. Really? You can't be serious..
I think Parisian Restaurant is objectively the best modular, but Grand Emporium will always be my favorite cause it was my first. I like the Police Station and Fire Brigade, but feel like they date your city by being so old-timey. Grand Emporium feels like it could exist in any time period, to me at least
That's a good take on the Grand Emporium and is so true!
Its supposed to be old timey
I disagree with A9 too
The cafe corner got me out of my Lego dark age so it’ll always have a special place in my heart… I have all of em except market street (I’m one of the few that don’t count it as an official modular) but my favorite is the detective’s office. Being in healthcare, I would really like a hospital at some point.
Yes! A full 2 wide base plates or at least 1.5 baseplate hospital or a public school would be awesome! Thanks for the short story also, it’s always great to learn about what got people out of their dark ages haha
Everyone agrees market street is the worst
My ranking (I own all of them except the Cafe Corner, Market Street, Green Grocer, and Town Hall, and I'm excluding the Natural History Museum because I haven't built it yet):
18. Market Street
17. Corner Garage
16. Brick Bank
15. Palace Cinema
14. Cafe Corner
13. Pet Shop
12. Bookshop
11. Fire Brigade
10. Town Hall
9. Green Grocer
8. Boutique Hotel
7. Jazz Club
6. Grand Emporium
5. Assembly Square
4. Police Station
3. Detective's Office
2. Downtown Diner
1. Parisian Restaurant
Wow, thank you for a full ranked list, that’s awesome! And YES! Another lover of the Detectives office!
@@brickafide Detective's Office blew my mind when i first built it. So many cool building techniques and the interiors were easily the best ever up to that point
You put the police station doughnut thief over the literal money-laundering-Laundromat for its plot? Very controversial takes you have here…
I think the police station is a better Modular personally, and the connection with the brick bank is a plus.
