Today we are taking a look at every Lego Ideas set that has been released in the main line series since 2011 with the first Lego Cuusoo set the Shinkai 6500! I will provide my personal thoughts and opinions and rank each lego set on a subjective basis.
The Lego A-Frame Cabin is the newest Lego Ideas set for 2023 and will release on February 1st 2023 at the LEGO store in the United States.

The Saturn V is the first set I ever paid over $100 for and is my favorite Lego set. Second favorite Ideas set is Pirates of Barracuda Bay. A more distant third is either Home Alone or Medieval Blacksmith (which I still love). It might have been Sesame Street if they had included the Count.
The Jazz Quarter was one of my favorite builds EVER, looks phenomenal.
I can feel that. I really really want to build it because a lot of the builds are excellent looking, it’s just not something that I personally want to display in my setup so it makes the purchase decision very difficult. You can send it to me to build and I can send it back lmao 😝
I bumped into it in store and fell in love ❤️ i love jazz, and music. and it looks awesome. I am. Cerise, what alternative build can somone do with it :). I have an idea for a project, i am going to ass speakers and make a music player in my living room from rhis set :)
Btw, i love builds with mechanisms. So i have to get the piano and the type writer. And some technic car with gear, like the bugatti. Also, i am a sucker for type writers and keyboards. The lighthouse looks sick !!!.
Also, i wanted some cheaper Lego, so i found the technic 911rsr with light and motors at a good price. Not original lego. I am waiting for it. Hope it will be good.

You really missed out on the Pirate Bay. I got the original set back in 1989 and have it on display ever since, so this was a must for me and building it was just constant joy bringing back all the memories just with all the pieces reappearing.

00:39 it maybe “just another mech” but I think it’s actually one of the best Mech Sets LEGO has produced. It’s just a shame it was for an Ideas set and now costs a lot to get.
I agree, it's certainly one of the best mechs. Also, whilst a lot of the others are more battle mechs, this was more of a 'power loader' like the one in aliens so it's a much different feel to any other lego mach
Not to mention that it was made long before we got like 10 mechs every year
To this day I still display the 620R, it’s a fantastic set
It’s also the Classic Space mech that we always imagined but Lego never made.
Even though I have never watched Voltron myself, I own the Lego Ideas model (I got it as a Christmas present) and I love it! I have always loved giant robots since I was a kid (Power Rangers used to be one of my favorite shows back then), and getting Voltron was quite the treat. What impressed me the most is that it's able to either be combined into Voltron or you can display it as the individual 5 lions that make it up, and even if the transformation is pretty simple, it still shows quite a feat in engineering that it can pull this off at all

Moral of the story : most Lego sets are way too fkn expensive
The Lego Ideas book is very underrated in my opinion. It looks good on display, and opening the book lifts up the giant beanstalk with the giants castle at the top. Still not quite a top 10 set, but definitely should be higher up in my opinion.
I could see that for the functionality. I think I would personally do the red riding hood one if I owned it but yeah, maybe I will address this list again in the future 🤔
I understand that it’s completely personal preference but it irks me when people rate a set based on how “cool” it looks, I think the point of Lego ideas is to bring to life the concept of pop culture in Lego for the most part and you can’t expect them to be extremely colourful and also look like it does in the show.
Would love to see an updated list! I don't agree with everything but absolutely respect all your placements.
omg! The dinosaur fossil set also ended my "LEGO dark ages"! And even though I am now about 30 sets into my reborn LEGO obsession, the fossils were still one of the most fun builds

The Typewriter was a really fun build and its a great display piece. It's one of my favorite sets. I'm so glad it was on this list.

An actual good realistic list that I can agree with, except maybe the medieval blacksmith. I would place it way higher

Woah! Your channels really cool! I only really use Lego for stop motions so I never really comprehended the enjoyment of buying sets outside of that, but after checking out the new rivendale set reviews, I really appreciate these plastic bricks and can totally see why you love lego! Great vid!

Voltron is my favorite, with Pirates and the Blacksmith a close 2nd and 3rd. I'm fortunate to have all 3, the only set I really want that I missed was the old fishing store. I took a small break from collecting when it came out so I just missed it, oh well
For me, my favorite was The Ecto-1. I still have that set and I remember the Christmas I got it. As a kid (and still now) I was a huge Ghostbusters fan and this was huge for me.

Interesting list. Personally I love the blacksmith but I understand it’s hard to rank when so many of the sets are that good. I usually only collect Star Wars but there’s a couple ideas I definitely want. Keep up the great videos man

Lego Ideas is what got me back into collecting Lego. I have a few OG Space Lego sets from the late 70's and one of the first 3-1 technic sets from the early 80's but I didn't get another set until 2010 with the Star Wars Lego Millennium Falcon. After getting The Big Bang Theory set it wasn't long before Voltron caught my eye... several years later and I'm at 90 sets now. Quite a few Ideas Sets round out that number. Personally, I would have put Voltron first and Wall-E second... that is one set that got away from me sadly. For third place, the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 for the figures that pair nicely with newer Ecto-1 they released in the larger scale.
Hey that’s an awesome! Without giving it much thought previously, you’re right. Lego ideas is definitely a thing to bring in pop culture and build the lego theme for people who may not be interested in the normal City, Star Wars, Ninjago, etc. also I can completely agree with you’re list, Voltron is awesome, WALL·E is awesome, and I can see the Ecto-1, just like almost anything in this list being someone’s favorite. It’s all personal subjectivity and what brings you the most happiness and emotion! Thank you for the comment, I really appreciate your insight!
Barracuda Bay is so good. O have mine as the ship atm but I kinda want to convert it to the island base again. I just need a shelf or table that actually fits it. lol
As someone who has built both the ISS at lego ideas scale (1:220) and at Saturn V scale (1:110), I can safely say that its placement on this list is justified. I display my 1:110 scale one at lego shows often and it always gets great reviews, the official lego version unfortunately became a parts set for me. As for the Saturn V, I bought 3 of it as its just so awesome! My top 5 is Voltron, Barracuda Bay, Wall-E, Saturn V and the Fishing Store. The only one of those I don't still have built is the Fishing Store.

I absolutely love the WALL-E set. I forked over the money for it about a year ago, but I absolutely love it. It's perfect size for me and looks great on my desk. I also love the movie, so that's just another reason to love it. I'd sometime like to somehow build an EVE model as well thats similar in size, but that'll probably take some work. Love the channel by the way!
Thank you for the kind words, it truly means a lot! Yes WALL-E is epic, both the movie and the set. I need to get my hands on it soon for sure. I will say thought, an EVE would be pretty challenging to make with those smooth edges and curves but I would love to see it done!

I have the Lego Maze, super hard to get. This is a classic and maybe first to be catered to adults.
Man the blacksmith & Voltron sets are my personal favorite! I sadly missed out on the blacksmith set. Had other purchases on my mind. The voltron set made me so happy even though modeled after the 1980s show. I loved Voltron force as a kid

I love it. I’ve been trying to buy it at my local lego store but it’s never in stock. I don’t generally like lego art sets because I feel like they would be boring builds but the great wave really fits my homes aesthetic. So I would need some context in what list it would be apart of but overall I would rate it a 9/10 on it’s own accord

I have wall-e and the typewrighter and i was so happy when you put wall-e at number 3, it's one of my favourite set of all time and the movie means a lot to me, i'm so lucky to have it before it retired and Now seeing it going up in price makes me so much happy and valorise A LOT my investment

I’ve built the ISS, it’s not annoyingly repetitive build and it’s already really big, the ISS is massive and this model takes up lots of space due to it shear span of its solar panels.

I own a handful of these sets. Yellow submarine, ecto 1 (and the new one I need to build), tron, home alone (amazing), Optimus prime, but my absolute favorite is the blacksmith. I don't have a nice setup to display so they're all on 2 shelves, but that blacksmith has such unique building ways I've never seen, but I just got back into Lego last year after stopping for many years.

Respectfully, it seems like you've done an Ideas ranking video when you own very few of the sets? As I'm sure you're fully aware, so much of ones opinion of the set is formed from the actual build experience, so I'd like to see an updated ranking one day if you ever do get all/most of these sets, see how the rankings change 👍 Also, your pronunciation of Caterham was hilarious 🤣
I know the British pronounce it “Cay-Ter-Um”
I went on bricklink a few years ago and made a wish list of all the parts in the WALL-E set to see what it would cost to buy all the parts as opposed to paying like $250 for one, and I was able to get all the parts for just a bit over what it retailed for!

Used to collect the Idea's set but stopped when the sets got bigger and more expensive. Glad I've got WallE and Dinosaur Fossil Sets 1& 3 spot. But favourite has to be WallE followed by Saturn 5 and then Ghostbusters (small) car which I own.

owning botht the piano and the typewriter, the piano is def more worth it and the typewriter frequenly needs to be 'fixed' in order to actually work again after being on the shelf for a long time.

A full table layout. Trying to work out sizing for under drawers and such. A lot to plan for and pay for. I’ll have the funds after tax return hopefully, so working on it for the next couple months! P

To get enough support for an Ideas set it has to be huge which makes it expensive and an adult toy. The licensed themes make the price even higher. The problem I have with the theme is there is no reason given for denial of a project. I think the Pirate ship, Sonic, and Back to the Future are the right size set for this theme. Interesting themes, not to big. They denied a mini putt project, and something that turned into there mech series of figures is the reason why I don’t create or support projects anymore.

I have a sealed set of the Dinosaur Fossils that I can resell for a lot higher than what I paid for it. I’ve been holding onto it for almost 2 years
Lighthouse is number 1 for me. I was discouraged by the price but the build is unlike any other and is just a spectacular display piece. Saturn V is a close second, incredible looking build and great price to pay l part ratio. Third would have to be medieval blacksmith, it looks so good, the build was immensely satisfying and the features are awesome

@@brickafide it was absolutely worth the price. I've gotten a lot of the large display pieces from Lego and the lighthouse might be my favorite. Granted I'm from a beach town and my house is filled with beach decor so it just goes so well

Gotta say man, if you eventually buy the Stratocaster and build it, it will absolutely shoot up the list. It's one of the best build experiences I've had, ever. Would say my top 5 is:
1: Van Gough
2: Stratocaster
3: Wall-E
4: Doctor who
5: Dino Fossils

My fav might have been at the bottom of your list but stepping back I get it. I just wanted the green space mini figs. The build was fun but lacked much color that could have been used to tie it to the classic space style.
After hearing many different comments about the set maybe I was a bit too harsh on the exo suit, it’s not terrible or anything like that. Just at the time I was really getting tired of mechs from lego, so I left a sour taste in my mouth!
I absolutely get that. I’m just a massive fan of classic space so I would have picked up any build to grab the green figures 😅
those fossils were the first set i bought in years as well! Deserved number 1 spot!

@@brickafide I actually started ogling that Saturn V when it first came out. Lego-wise i still regret not picking it up. I might not have missed all the nice ideas and other amazing sets that released between the Saturn and the fossils.

You could make a forest area on the outskirts of your lego city and include the treehouse and the A Frame cabin
I have thought about it, just space is always a concern. It would definitely look good but not sure if I can make it work in my space.

I have the Caterham set and while it's a nice display piece its so delicate that you can't even touch it without it falling apart :(

Oops i bought that fishermans house and the Wall E from Aliexpress years ago without knowing it was original Lego ideas. I have nothing against fake Lego as long if it is a original design. On Ali they have like 5 different kind of that serie so did Lego made more then 1 of that building?
No there was only one version of the building officially
The only one I really disagree with is the Saturn V I owned one for a while and it was just such a pain to have because it was fragile
Interesting, I found it was ok. Now if your looking for something fragile. Try the 2019 UCS Star Destroyer. That things is my favorite but an absolute pain in the arse!
My girlfriend recently bought me the lighthouse, I'm so excited to build it but I need to find space for it first lol

The lego dino fossils has the hidden feature of being able to build a fossil for just about anything, seriously look up all the alternate builds on rebrickable! I currently have the set built into a godzilla fossil

Yeahhhhh, I really hated having to put it where I did but it is what it is. I was really hyped on it when the rumors came in and it was a 100% purchase in my mind. Then it released, I took a look at it and was like nahhh I’m good.
It’s sort of like the friends apartment. I love central perk for 60 bucks but the apartment at 150 and now 180 I believe is just too long and big to display and overall somewhat boring. Albeit it is very accurate, same goes for the office. Great sets in that regard but just blahh verses other things you can do with lego
Where would you rank the Hocus Pocus set?
Ooooo, well my wife really likes hocus Pocus and I used to watch it on Disney Channel as a child all the time myself. I also like nice building that can integrate in a LEGO city somewhat soooo without reviewing the video again (it’s been many months since making it) the number 8 spot feels right to me!
What does ur legos dark ages mean
It’s the time that you weren’t into Lego! Generally it’s the time between when you had lego growing up and then stopped buying in high school/college/etc. until you found your way back!

I think the exo suit is really cool, all the details are awesome and no Lego mech comes close to it
I can see that, I have gotten more comments on this mech then most other sets. I feel like it didn’t give it the love that it deserved!
@@brickafide true, there was a book I got that had a whole story and it was by the creator of the exo suit, he built a really cool space ship moc with weird aliens. If I find the name of it I will send it to you

Interesting list. Some of the ways our tastes differ are expected: different age, different pop cultural touchstones. Others were more surprising.
I can’t argue with taste-like what you like-but I will quibble with one reason you gave. You knocked the Exo-Suit for not being timely or pop-cultural. I would say referencing Lego Classic Space is at least as strong of a pop cultural connection as Pirates of Barracuda Bay or Medieval Blacksmith have (to Lego Pirates and Lego Castle, respectively). (And you also slotted a significant number of sets above it that aren’t really tied into anything ,like the Typewriter, Treehouse, and Birds.)
No quibble with you not liking it, I just don’t think it’s accurate to say that it doesn’t have pop cultural significance or doesn’t refer to anything else.
I fully understand your criticism, but my point was mech’s. Literally every single marvel wave recently has 3 mech’s and now there’s rumors of Star Wars mech’s. Mech’s are just running rampet right now in lego. So nothing against classic space, if it’s truly classic space it obviously gets a pass but like lego blacktron cruiser was 1987/88, and this mech came out in 2014 (if im not mistaken), so I don’t think it gets a pass for being classic space, personally.
I am also kicking myself for not getting the wall-e set and now it's over £300! but I was really broke as a student when it was released

Ok the Exo Suit is one of the best lego ideas sets, it's a unique designed by a huge lego fan and famous moccer that wouldn't have been made in any other way, yes we get a lot of mechs but all of them are using fairly basic pieces are easy to build, they're also all less posable, it's an extremely impressive model, not to mention the GREEN ASTRONAUTS, just because it's not based on an existing ip doesn't mean it's bad, in fact you could argue that the best of ideas are sets that are unique 'ideas' as in new and not just based on a sitcom lol
I understand, I’ve gotten a lot of comments about the Exo Suit. I have definitely come around on it and it will be higher in an update version of this list in the future. But at the time of recording I had never known about it and I was pretty tired of mech builds with all the recent lego releases so it did get the crap end of the stick in this ranked list go around
