Hilariously funny song---another Hayes Carll great! Love the satire he does from the viewpoint of someone who doesn't know who Jesus is "as he says, they must think that he's stupid or don't have a clue" and it "could have been Carlos, Billy or Ted"--brilliantly funny! Big fan of Hayes Carll!

I am extreme because I know who Iam and What I stand for.I understand your viewpoint of how I shudnt be affected by this song and I agree.But you shud understand that we hear this everyday in schools,work everywhere in America!!. Im not an American Citizen but the places I have come from, persecution is a whole other level and I see America on that pathway.We already banned prayer and bibles in skool.we move on to Christian teaching on TV and Radio. It all began with mindset,it all ends in hurt.

This song has me LOL! The fistfight between him and the Messiah would be interesting. Those who feel insulted by some of the lyrics, don't feel that way. Like one of the commenters says, it's from the viewpoint of some dumb as rocks bumpin-in-love. I love this song! Very clever!

Just brilliant. Can you blame someone for not wanting to live his whole life around a fictional character and a fairy tale? The point is, things were GREAT between us before she "found" Jesus, and started getting goofy and paranoid. For years I tried to believe, pretended to believe, just to make our home harmonious. Finally I just gave up. She's bought the fairy tale hook line and sinker.
instead of being offended by a song you should be trully be offended by those that kill in the name of what ever god.

Hayes Live is entertaining, enlightening, emotional, brilliant and, most importantly, a damn good time with damn good people! Hayes may be a drunk with a pen, but I'll take his genius writing over another poet any day of the week, except maybe Evan Felker. Best under 50 song writers I'm aware of!

I'm an atheist and every time the Watch Tower People knock on my door I tell them I'm a Pastafarian and am a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. But sheesh, I don't have a problem with Christians if they're not forcing their religion down my throat.
I think it has more to do with the fact that I'm an atheist. I usually don't relate to country music. I grew up in West Los Angeles and that's about as far from country as you can get. It may be the wild west, but definitely not country.
@ABevs1 Once again you're right. And if I had been at a funeral and seen that I would have taken a much different tone. It's not funny, it's disgusting. But I think it was more to do with the fact that it was the Academy Awards. I think if you lived here, and seen Hollywood Blvd on a regular basis growing up, you'd see the humor in it too. It's a mishmosh. I'm sure you've seen your share of Christians handing out pamphlets.
Jesus is not another image but someone who loves, gives, and sacrificed to his last breath and blood. I want to say that this is funny.. but I have a problem with the singer pouring his soul in writing this song, understand that even though it is a joke to us this is a something that came out raw from his heart. This song is going to desentize and eventually propogate that Jesus was just another and that there is no hope
I'm NOT saying that Hayes is the anti-Christ and influencal in a big way but I just want to bring out from a christian perpective that this song is treading on Jesus's Character. even though its not a big deal to you,it is to me.Peace,Love and Hope is all what Christ presented and we need that message especially today but it is being blurred by these little"jokes"not only Hayes but many,others.Prayers,Christian messages,Bible unallowed(not because of Hayes)but he makes it all seem unimportant.
Hey soldier, I totally agree. There's a club for people like us, it's called the Taliban. I mean we pretty much believe in the same God, and not having a sense of humour and misinterpreting scriptures are just a few of the fun activities we get up to. We're blowing up a car in a market in Islamabad this weekend - come along, you've got nothing to lose! (except all the good things the scriptures teach, but we think loving thy neighbour sounds totally gay)

@mastermalone But have you ever seen 2 or 3 completely separate groups of them doing across the street from each other? I have. I've even taken pamphlets from one group walked up the next group and told them I wouldn't take their pamphlet unless they were willing to trade. I've even was told by one of them that the pamphlet I was trying to give him wasn't what he believed in. Let's not forget that interspersed with these wackos are random people in costumes trying to get paid for pictures.
