    After doing some more flights the principles of this video all stand true but if you want to match the fuel burn for the SimBrief profile you will need to set your cruise to 75-100 degrees lean of peak and this will also make the overall flight profile for endurance correct. For example, at 20,000 ft at 31"/2300rpm you can lean for 93lbs on each engine you will get the correct fuel flow for the SimBrief profile and the Flysimware Manual. This might change over time as they continue to tweak the performance. See the links in the description for the manual and troubleshooting page. I also recommend joining FlySimWares Discord.

    These are the types of educational videos that are life-savers for people playing MSFS, i'm really one of the slowest learners and it's taken me 2 months to learn pretty much the basics, and there's still a lot for me to get to grips with.       @@Hans_Magnusson Thanks! I did take about 30 hours of lessons over 15 years ago in a 172 and solo'd twice. But some life changes happened and was not able to get back to it. So yes, I am basically teaching myself. I would definitely not follow any of my videos for real world advice 😂

    2:10 To more quickly set your AP altitude, use key bindings for AP altitude increase and decrease. These commands also go by 100s but if you hold the keys down, i8t's like 2-3000' per second. MUCH faster than any other way of doing it and doesn't wear out your mouse wheel.

      Thanks, but I use the Logitech Multi Panel which has a physical dial. If the aircraft doesn't have a way to change it, then it won't reflect on the dial. I could use the key bind to set my initial altitude but kinda makes me feel like I wasted money on having the dial 🤑

    Thx. I've been wondering about optimal engine management with the RAM IV. BtW, RoP is generally better for engine life (obviously, more of an IRL consideration). I see that you have an approach plate on the RH 750--may I assume that's included with the PMS payware version? Nice feature to have.

    You can use the auto pilot on the GTN 750 to quickly set altitude and heading by entering the numbers directly. Much quicker.

      That’s a great tip! Does it reflect on the manual AP ticker tape as well and does it force you to always use the 750 for AP there after? Or can you use the normal AP?

      @@sprocketsimulations The 750 auto pilot appears to just enter values the same as if it were done by any other control. The 750 has been one of my favorite purchases. I have never regretted it. Makes things SO much easier. Also, the 750 in the toolbar makes entering flight plans way easier than using the knob on the 530 and 430 Garmins in other planes

    Great video - I'm looking in the manual (I don't have the plane yet), but it says
    "We are happy to announce that we now have working mixture levers coded (for realism) for a turbocharged engine. You
    no longer have to lean for higher altitudes nor for above the critical altitude of 21K feet . This new code has a fuel controller to
    maintain the fuel flow. But also allows you to still set the fuel flow rate. So this way you can set the mixture rich for most of
    the flight and then when you descend from high altitude you can control the EGT temps so you do not crack the engine head
    as you now enter warmer air and prepare to land."
    Did they update it since this video was made? Or is this referring to something different? Thanks! :)

      It has been updated a few times since this video. I now set mixture for 155lbs per engine for the climb and leave it there.
      Then once at cruise set mixture to the POH for the 414A (the W stands for winglets) and this does have more power with the ram iv conversion but I find it still works pretty well. At FL20 I lean for 93 on each engine.
      Google 414a POH for the closet POH I can find for this.

    I have the C414 but every time I fly it about 20 min into any flight my RPMS start dying out until I crash I have looked for info on this everywhere and nobody seems to know what’s going on. Does anyone have a tip on this? As far as I know I have everything set up correctly.

    Nice video. I just got the 414 a few days ago. I am having a hard time getting the mixture controls to work. Is there an auto mixture mode in MSFS 2020? When I am climbing, pretty much at any time, my EGT is really low. If I try to adjust the mixture, the EGT drops completely off the scale altogether! I pretty much have to fly at full rich, I was able to get up to FL250. Also, the EGT is bouncing around a lot as is the suction gauge. And the red indicator on the suction gauge also starts to blink.

      That does sound bizarre. Are you on Xbox or PC?
      There is an auto mixture setting, I think it is under the realism options. Haven’t used it though so not sure how it behaves.

      @davidedelmann7888 absolutely. I just hopped in it now as I haven’t flown it in a while and it is behaving as normal for me.
      One thought is to check your mixture mapping in the controls section to make sure it is set correctly for your system. It is probably not that but worth checking.

      Ok, I got it working. It was set to automatic mixture control. The jumping around that I saw was the automatic mode trying to override my setting.

    Does the POH say it's ok to oversquare like you do in your last examples?

      Absolutely! Overquare is an outdated saying and not applicable for most modern engines. I don’t believe the POH even has a cruise setting that is oversquare. You can check the link in the description to see the POH provided by FlySimWare which. Same as the non ram air version and also pretty much any other modern aircraft.

      That is for your best single engine rate of climb. You want to be at or above that line if you are on one engine.

    Aren’t there 3 stages of flaps? When did you drop your last stage of flaps? Or did you land with just 2 stages down? Also, are you supposed to engage the fuel pumps on the low setting for takeoff and landing?

      I did extend full flaps and I do this on final when runway is assured. The fuel pumps in most MSFS aircraft are superficial and do not have an effect on performance, or startup. Only some of the study level aircraft from companies like PMDG, or the new Red Wing Super Constellation, or Wing 24 Boeing 247 will need to have these set. But yes, you can put these on to follow the complete checklist. This tutorial is for setting the mixture more than a complete tutorial on the full functionality/checklists.

      I don’t think it is a Asobo issue. It is a developer choice to have it implement it or not. Plenty of aircraft do have this functionality, like the ones I mentioned and all the black square aircraft take the default Asobo aircraft and add a ton of study level options.
      Regardless, the 414 is one of my favorite aircraft in the game!

    So apparently the fuel burn is only broken on the Xbox Series X.
    The mixture levers on the 414 don't have any effect until they're all the way back and then they cut the engines. Otherwise it's full rich all the time and burning 56 gallons per hour at cruise. Hopefully they will fix it eventually.
    Oh yeah, and the EGT gauge never moves no matter what.

      @@sprocketsimulations I tried it and the rate of burn didn't change so at this point if I do a longer flight I put 20 gallons back in every hour since I'm unable to lean out. The rest of the plane is so detailed and great, it ends up being a glaring hole in the emersion.

      Update: Three weeks to a month ago there was an update to the 414 and now the mixture levers work as they should and they even make the clicking noise. Happiness is mine.

    Anyone else have difficulty trimming the aircraft for rate of climb,cruise(level flight) and rate of descent? Im using the honeycomb throttle

      I can’t say that I have. I use all Logitech panels and trim. If you’re not using autopilot you will always have to make constant adjustments but I haven’t found it to be sensitive to not get it configured manually and just make minor adjustments. If you are going to fast it will probably be a little more twitchy so make sure to climb, cruise, and descend at the right speeds and settings.

    I had some suggestions from real experience and watching a real pilot on RUclips to support your message and maybe make things more real. From my real experience as a pilot I’d never suggest Cranking the Mixtures back that quickly. Try this. For every number on the mixture say 3 to 4 thousand feet. So at 3500 move to 1, 8000 move to 2, 12K to 3, 16K to 4 and 20K to 5 and adjust to Cruse from there. I normally use 31 on the manifold and 23 on the prop 20gph lean of peak. The 115pph at those settings was 19.2gph which was close. I did not see much difference in performance in 30mp and 2400 prop they were about the same just quieter at 31 and 2300, pretty much same speed and fuel burn. The real Pilot uses standard cruise at 20gph. I’m with you depending on how far you need to go needs different settings. I was able to get 18gph with 31 and 2300 by adjusting the Mixture down more and only lost 3-5 knots in airspeed. Happy Flying!

      Thanks! I’ve had conflicting advice on adjusting mixture with this aircraft during climb as the fuel management system will do that for you due to the turbo.
      In all other aircraft I have always adjust mixture as you described with small incremental adjustments as you climb/descend. Just makes a lot more sense to do it this way. The manual from FLYSIMWARE even calls it that you do not need to adjust until cruise.
      Is this because it is the AW version with the RAM IV option or is it just in correct?

      Yes normally in Fuel Injected and Turbo you shouldn’t have to adjust it. However I don’t think it’s simulated very well not sure on who’s end. I tried that but seems around 12000 there’s a power loss and climb drops off to around 500 fpm. The only way to fix in MSFS is to adjust. Another thing I like to do is use Pitch up setting with wheel on AP Then 120 for Initial climb then 7-10K feet 130 and seems to maintain 1000 fpm pretty well Cruise Climb. That way if you have an Engine out it gives you 20kts to react and recover before Adverse Yaw.

      @@scootermason2746 I believe the latest update corrected the WASM functionality in the sim and now works as expected. The Ram IV version actually calls for 130 for the climb so I guess you would climb out at this then reduce to 120. (Found this out recently.)
      If the turbo/fuel system is supposed to take care of the mixture during the climb IRL why does the IRL youtube video (which is awesome) lean as he climbs?

      If you watch all of his videos they baby the aircraft to make sure they don’t over stress the engines. I would guess to keep the Temps low or maybe the fuel burn low or both. I heard the his plane was one of the Models used for the xplane version a few years back before the AW. I really enjoy this plane! Love that it’s a handful to fly. Your video is spot on with the Rich of and Lean of Peak. I just use GPH and what the call Normal Cruise Settings. I have done the long range settings when I was full of Pax and Bags to do a 700nm Flight.

    So I will say thank you for the video, but also add that some parameters should be taken more seriously. Engine before takeoff was really cold, so you should close the cowls at runup than open on take off. The take off power settings shall never exceed 38 Inches of manifold pressure, so no full throttle at take off. A idle on ground some throttle shall be used to achieve prop speed of just over 1000rpm, due engine clogging and alternator charge.

      Surprised no one corrected you yet.
      41" @ 2700 RPM for RAM IV. 38" for stock 414A (as posted on their website...Takeoff Manifold Pressure & RPM). FSW C414AW is RAM IV (325hp) Stock is only 310hp. Firewall those throttles baby! 😂 His mistake was how fast he went to full throttle. Should've been MUCH slower!

      @redtailpilot I haven’t flown this in a while but this would put this model in the red if you are even able to get to it. Not saying what you see isn’t accurate for a real life 414. But if you go off the data and model of this flight sim version the manual states much lower settings and are reflected accurately in the aircraft. Flysimware provides you with performance charts that they have used to model this aircraft. The settings I use are those as the other ones do not match in the sim.

      @sprocketsimulations ok, but I've watched a ton of real world videos of experienced real world pilots flying this aircraft and they all go to full throttle during the takeoff roll, just a whole lot slower than you did in this video! Yeah you will hit the red line but only briefly. I think you got me and the other guy mixed up lol. He was saying that you used too much MP. My original comment was directed at him.

    Nice video. However, you advanced to takeoff power WAY TOO FAST! Throttle movement should be much slooower. One last thing (I'm probably too picky😆)... but RPM is already plural (Revolutions per minute). 2500 RPM (not RPMs).

      Care to explain a little more? This an older video of mine and there had been some changes to the performance of this wonderful aircraft but as far as I can tell from talking to the developer and also from my knowledge of how these engines work as well as watching a lot of real world videos this is roughly how you would still set the aircraft up.
      The main difference that has changed is the MSFS has added more advanced feature for leaving your mixture full rich while climbing (or setting the fuel burn according to the POH)
      But your cruise settings will be power/rpm/fuel burn. You can also use the EGT for finding the most optimal settings for your current conditions and alter for your needs.
      What is it that is got wrong with the rpm’s? That is a genuine question as I am not a real world pilot and would love to know from your experience what is incorrect?

      @@sprocketsimulations when you were setting cruise power you offered a more "aggressive" option. But you set the rpm/propeller pitch wrong.
      On engines like the IO the engine rpm is directly proportional to the propeller rpm since theyre direct drive. But with a set manifold pressure lowering the rpm isn't done by changing anything with the engine. What is happening is the the propeller pitch is changing which effects load on the engine. So lowering the rpm at cruise is actually setting the prop more aggressive. It's kind of like changing gears from 3rd to 5th on the highway. You take off in 2nd gear, best climb in 3rd then once you reach the top of the hill you chuck her in 5th. 5th has a lot higher potential for going faster then 3rd.
      You can think of propeller pitch kinda like how a cupped hand feels in water. Full forward is like chopping your hand through water with it vertical. And full back is like running your hand through water with it horizontal.
      The reason why we take off with prop full forward is because it has less load on the engine and it has quicker access to the HP if something were to go wrong. Trying to climb a hill in a high gear puts you outside the power band and in a turbo that can be very bad. I actually melted a turbo doing that once.

      Wouldn’t the performance chart reflect this when looking at the same MP with different RPMs. The POH is always showing that lower RPM is going to be less speed and power.
      For example the chart has at 20,000 ft with 34/2300 you can expect to get 84.3% BHP and 218 knots. 34/2200 will get you 83.6% and 216 knots. Which to me would mean higher RPM is “more aggressive” with aggressive being speed, and fuel burn for your MP setting with all other conditions equal. Lowering your rpm will slow you down at least this is the case in the sim.

      @@MartianLivesMatterI’m wondering if you have any more insight about the POH settings and power/speed/rpm?
      I completely understand what you are describing with the nature of the prop but it does not coincide with the rpm’s on this aircraft. Thoughts?

      @@sprocketsimulations I think I was wrong. My understanding would of been right IF rpm didn't drop. Since rpm drops due to load there inevitably is less air being pulled through.
      So for high speed cruise reducing the pitch which increases rpm does increase air speed at said manifold pressure.

    Mate - you extended your flaps WAY too soon. VFe for the Chancellor is 140 kts as indicated by the top of the white arc.

      First notch I believe is 171. Printed right on the flap lever and also in the POH. I think gear is 177
