682 is just straight up immortal. It can be contained, but not killed. The funny thing is if the termination attempt just kills, 682 usually just does something unexpected like making friends with the other anomaly (yes this has actually happened, the foundation were really pissed about that one)

Keep in mind guys....682 could not adapt new powers from the Gate Guardian's sword...it could only survive with its leg left while shooting blasphemy. Its possible it was shouting blasphemy to conceptionally weaken Gate Guardian's blade by a smidge. It didn't gain ice or fire or flaming sword powers either. .... In other words, it can't uno reverse card everything, sometimes it just manages to survive.
iirc 682 was made as a blockade for Scp submissions to stop people from making badly written scp that are described as "OMG it's so powerful it one shot 682 and is like the strongest thing ever" and it worked to a degree back in the old days, now we just have a hundred of hyperversal/omnipotent beings that still cant manage to put 682 down for good.
the one with 3930 is actually kinda interesting. if you think about it, 682 basically became a pattern screamer through the thoughts and memories of all the people who knew of it, and then since it adapts to any terrible situation, it adapted to being a pattern screamer, and then existed again.
682, for a creature so prone to change and evolve, seems so unchanging mentally. Always rushing to kill, reacting rather than thinking things through. On one hand this means no deception through false friendship or long term planning. On the other hand it makes me wonder if the right mental attacks could force his adaptation to change his personality. Maybe with a multiprong approach such as combining the effort with amnestics.
Perhaps if we expose 682 to 999 for longer periods of time, a few hours a day for months on end, and given what we've seen with 999 interacting with other humans and a previous cross test, this could perhaps make 682 docile.

I still think strapping it on one of the rockets used to see 184's effect on the universe and have it self destruct would be a goof choice. Clearly those rockets used to observe 184's universal effects goes faster than the speed of light, so have it to far far away and explode, it won't kill 682, but he'll be gone for a while

My evidence for this is that when amnestics were introduced into 682's acid tank, it actually started to dissolve, leading the researchers to theorize that the amnestics were hindering 682's adapablity.

I have an idea, probably won't work though. You could put 682 battling one anomaly, but when 682 adapts to that anomaly, put it with a different anomaly. So basically if you keep shifting the circumtances 682 is in, maybe you could eventually kill him.
the thing is, you really don't need overpowered scps to stop scp 682. you just need to constantly keep him on his toes w/ new attacks. keep him from adapting by rapidly changing the environment. these tests always involve trying to one shot him, but that's just not gonna work. you need to do a bunch of damage from a bunch of different attacks that scp 682 wouldn't have enough time to adapt to.

When the Reluctant Dimension Hopper took off with 682, it came back with a worse version. Not as bad as when the Nerfing Gun hit it though Who knows what could happen

I think I have an idea on how to kill 682. Put him in an empty room, with 173 on a trapdoor in the ceiling, 682 not knowing of this. Then, shoot out 682's eyes, and drop the trap door, letting 173 fall into the room, and kill 682. If none of the spectators look, 682 should eventually die, right?

What if they cut each limb off and put them in separate 5 inch thick steel boxes with no room to grow and fill the extra space in each box with the acid that is already in it’s cell. Would that keep it from regenerated and finally have it fully contained?
It may end up essentially becoming 5 of each as well it seams like the reptile evolves if its in really extream and near death situations so the acid contains it only because its strong enought to damage it but weak enought to keep it from evolving, its only my theory tho. to explain the nerfing gun btw, it's because the gun is based on the shooter's meaning of "worse", and a weaker 682 is technically a better version of the lizard from the foundation's PoV, so instead a worse version of 682 would be an even stronger version.

i think my favorite mutations is the Nerf gun one. It reacted to having its ENTIRE being and anatomy structure being nerfed at all once, hence becoming an Ultra 682.

@@sbeveloaf1120 My theory is that the adaptation 682 has to acid is more focused on entering a hibernation to survive, rather than an agressive adaptation.
My evidence for this is that when amnestics were introduced into 682's acid tank, it actually started to dissolve, leading the researchers to theorize that the amnestics were hindering 682's adapablity.

The acid is there to keep him at suboptimal strength, his reneration and adaptation vs the acid balancing out to keep him below 100%

You could put 682 battling one anomaly, but when 682 adapts to that anomaly, put it with a different anomaly. So basically if you keep shifting the circumtances 682 is in, maybe you could eventually kill him.

the thing is, you really don't need overpowered scps to stop scp 682. you just need to constantly keep him on his toes w/ new attacks. keep him from adapting by rapidly changing the environment. these tests always involve trying to one shot him, but that's just not gonna work. you need to do a bunch of damage from a bunch of different attacks that scp 682 wouldn't have enough time to adapt to.

I feel like the only way to truly get rid of 682 is by getting rid of it the same way another super adapting being was, by sending it to the end of time. Even if it somehow managed to adapt there wouldn't be anything or anyone left for 682 to destroy.

My theory is that, that dimension of 682 was just him adapting and transporting himself to the normal scp dimension. Therefore making it seem like he was "killed"

My theory is that he adapts and mutates when he is in danger or when he's being killed. After a while he isn't being killed anymore and the adaptation ends because it's unnecessary.
depends on the canon, most treat it as temporary adaptations which is why the acid bath can contain it

It truely amazes me how they have never tried to lead scp 682 into “o’ death” (where anything living thing that walks through it kills whatever is in the universe on the other side) and send in a dc with a bomb in their neck afterwards and detonate the bomb
The issue with that is that isn't how it works. It instead just killed everything in the universe it's in and if someone leaves said universe that universe will also be all dead
I remember when it was mentioned that SCP-682 regenerated itself from its' mere atoms, so therefore, I propose repeating the same effective destruction methods and then destroying it even further on a molecular and atomic level by de-atomizing it, thus hopefully putting it to rest officially.
I think I have an idea on how to kill 682. Put him in an empty room, with 173 on a trapdoor in the ceiling, 682 not knowing of this. Then, shoot out 682's eyes, and drop the trap door, letting 173 fall into the room, and kill 682. If none of the spectators look, 682 should eventually die, right?

What if they cut each limb off and put them in separate 5 inch thick steel boxes with no room to grow and fill the extra space in each box with the acid that is already in it’s cell. Would that keep it from regenerated and finally have it fully contained?
It may end up essentially becoming 5 of each as well it seams like the reptile evolves if its in really extream and near death situations so the acid contains it only because its strong enought to damage it but weak enought to keep it from evolving, its only my theory tho. But either way you prop whould end up with severall versions of it running around

I know how to once and for all deal with SCP-682. It's simple really. When SCP-001 The Black Moon destroys everything and the administrator defeats him, just have it so that when the administrator re-creates the universe SCP-682 never even existed. It's that simple.
to explain the nerfing gun btw, it's because the gun is based on the shooter's meaning of "worse", and a weaker 682 is technically a better version of the lizard from the foundation's PoV, so instead a worse version of 682 would be an even stronger version.

i think my favorite mutations is the Nerf gun one. It reacted to having its ENTIRE being and anatomy structure being nerfed at all once, hence becoming an Ultra 682.
I love how the "adaptation" showed at 1:00 is literally just 682 but he's fat and has an underbite.
Honestly a good attempt would be to isolate it to the point where it believes all other life is gone. Then maybe it might become depressed due to its purpose of killing all life being gone and just keel over and die?
you could try sending scp-682 in the dimension where scp 001 "when day breaks"is so he would either adapt to it,and become a melting monster that learns to open portals through dimensions going through the facility and murdering everyone in the whole facility,or it would just melt away,i think its worth the risk
