For the people asking about if Crna's can pick their hours, many can. For example one crna stated that he would work one 24 hour day and another 16 hour day so that he only had to work twice a week. Many get 6 weeks vacation time per year. Great benefits!

In germany, a nurse anaesthetist is only allowed to prepare medications, checking the anaesthetist's workplace, supervising the patient in the recovery room etc. You are not allowed to develop an anaesthetic plan, you are never ever going to perform a spinal / epidural / nerve block on your own and so on. To perform the activities of a nurse anaesthetist in Germany, you have to study medicine and become anaesthetist.
In the US you can become a nurse practitioner which basically gives you all the power of a physician without having to go to medical school. These jobs are becoming common because in the US we have a shortage of healthcare providers. Medical school has become so expensive that its scaring people away from attending, nurses are taking on more jobs and responsibilities that were once done by physicians

However, after almost a year in this program, I can say nursing is not the field for me. My dream job is actually to be a vet. I do plan on finishing this program. But I will go no further than that. Vet usually make around 70-90 thousand a year. That's half of what a crna makes but it's still pretty good money. Especially if you live in Texas because Texas is one of the cheaper states and I'm not looking for a mansion. Just a good house and a job that love so much, I don't even consider it a job. I'd gladly work all day as a vet. Also I plan to have roommates so that's less cost for me. And of course I plan to have a good partner and no kids for while.

It depends where you work. A surgery center usually doesn't have any call or overtime. There's an agency, too. They never had to take call. Some L&D floors have a CRNA in house 24-7. A CRNA stays in house for 48 hours and that's it for the week. So, there's all types of schedules.
I’m only about to start my sophomore year in high school and this job is highly appealing to me. However, I don’t know which classes I should take to help me prepare for college/get me into this job. I will have honors chemistry & honors biology this year, and I’m sure that those are crucial, but what else will I need?
For those who are either in college now or have gone through it already, what advice do you have for a high school student that’s trying to get on the path of anesthesiology? This is what I'm striving for but I would say so far my biggest weakness would be injecting medicine into the vein, I can handle shots but maybe giving the shot not so well

jed52 Definitely not. If you casually browse some forums of students accepted and graduating from CRNA school, there are a lot of people with a TON (10-20 years) of experience. Go for it, if that's what you want to do!

A lot of people say that's old to go back to school for 3 years because I will be 40 a month after I graduate. But I can't see myself doing anything else in this world so to me age doesn't matter. It shouldn't.

You make enough in your first to years working as an anesthesiologist to pay it off. Dont worry about debt when youll be making 300-400k a year

After a BSN, and completion of work in 1 year min. of critical care, how much longer would it take to become a CRNA?
Three years, and it's my understanding that people often go for 2 years of ICU experience before applying/acceptance.
