I really appreciated that she said we are college level educated professionals with science backgrounds. Nursing is so much more than just being "angels". We make critical decisions regarding our patient's care every second of every shift.

You don't really make decisions. You call the doctor to do that.

MatthewRX Many nurses are great. Many are not. When you cut others down makes us feel you are not one of the good ones. Don't act as if you are GOD.

My grandmother passed away in september and spent her last days in the ICU. What I witnessed there honestly left such a big impression.
In what was the hardest day of my life, I met some of the most caring, thoughtful and skilled people - the nurses there. Not only were they taking care of my grandmother, they were also taking care of us, the family which is technically not their job, but they still did it and I am beyond grateful for that.
I knew she was going to die, but having met, spent time with and having talked to the nurses, I felt ok leaving in the evening as I knew she would be taken care of - not only medically, but also personally.
My favourite nurse there promised us as we were leaving, that if my grandmother were to pass that night, she promised us that she would not be alone because she would be sitting by her bed with her supporting her through her last moments. Hearing that broke my heart, but also made me so happy at the same time, knowing that she wouldn't die alone in a hospital room, but that there would be such a sweet and caring person there to help her.
Nurses are so well trained in so many aspects of the medical world and obviously are primarily nurses, but they also are part-time-angels. And I mean that in the best sense of the word.

      @Happyheart1532 5 лет назад

Thank God you are still alive!! :)
      Just a word of encouragement:
Remember that Jesus loves you and He's coming soon.
If you have not made a decision to follow Him, don't wait because tomorrow is
      promised to no one.
Satan wants us to believe we have all the time in the world, when we actually don't.
Even he knows his time is short (Revelation 12:12)
Lastly, the National Sunday Law is about to be enforced upon us. It involves the Mark of the Beast. The Beast is a religious & political system, which includes the Pope and his followers. Their sign of authority or seal is Sunday worship because they claim to have authority over the Bible and they admit that Sunday worship is their doing. (Revelation 13:6). They will enforce worship on all. (See Revelation 13). IT is their plan to force all to worship on the 1st day of the week (Sunday) and have that as the ONLY DAY of worship. They want everyone to forsake God's law which includes keeping the Sabbath, and accept man's tradition.
When it is enforced, and people accept Sunday worship INSTEAD of accepting the Seventh Day Sabbath (Saturday) as the Lord's Day and only true day of worship, they will get the mark of the Beast.
      The system promotes false worship.
So, it's our duty to keep God's it commandments, including the 4th which talks about the Sabbath because in the end, we have to chose 1 side.
So, lastly, I'm inviting you to the Seventh Day Adventist church that is NEAREST to you and make it your #1 priority be ready by God's grace to face the time that is just before us.

Nurses are such bad *sses!! They work so hard, are so smart, and deserve so much more respect. I spent a lot of time in the hospital and am so thankful for all the wonderful nurses who helped me. Also nurses were usually way cooler than the doctors so props to them LOL

you guys are so brash to beth ck...ive been a nurse 20 years, i think she was kidding. doctors are not Gods. As an ER nurse, i have saved dr's asses so many times, we stay with the patient, a lot of times, we( nurses) make the critical decisions many times. Many times, they don't even know how fast to give medications, i have to tell them.
I have many physician friends, and behind the scenes, they are just like you and me. They cry like you and me. They have money problems like you and me (yes, they do!). and yes, i do think nurses are cooler than some docs :)

Rook, you remind me of the SICU nurse I had following emergent quintuple bypass. Thank you for all of your efforts on behalf of critically-ill patients. Please tell your colleagues and family members to always be watching out for ICU delirium in the ICU. ICU delirium is not a transient condition which just goes away and causes the patient no harm. It is life-threatening and can cognitively impair the patient for life.

Sometimes I wonder if people recognize and realize how much of a patient's care is reliant on nurses. "You don't make decisions. You call the doctor to do that", actually that's not always the case. Nurses make so many critical decisions for patients that does not always have to involve the doctor. Nurses and doctors have their own roles and work together to provide care for patients. Nurses are the ones conveying the information so that the doctors can makes their judgements. Depending on what the nurse communicates, can impact the direction of care for the patients. Most times nurses are the ones who tell the doctors what the concerns are. In ICU is a vastly different field of nursing compared to med surg or general med. Nurses are given a lot more autonomy in the care for the patient that in other areas.
Thank you for sharing this video of the ICU!

ECG is used to observe, and measure the electric impulses that is conducted when the heart contracts, and relaxes. In an ECG, you can see, what we call, depolarization, contraction, and repolarization of different parts of the heart. Depending on what the waves look like, it can tell you if the heart is normal, or abnormal (heart attack)
Cardiac output monitor measures the amount of blood that is pumped out from the heart to the systemic circuit each minute.

Saying it's difficult isn't saying you don't like it. In fact, most of us like being nurses because it is challenging.

I really suggest you go for your RN. Nowadays with the economy, hospitals are actually getting rid of their LPN's/LVN's or making them get their RN's. If you are going to spend all that time getting your LPN, you might as well do a little more and go for your RN, trust me, youll know if its for you or not on your first semester of nursing school. Good luck!

I have a question. Do you have to go for additional schooling or training to get certified to work in the ICU or ER or to work in surgery or the operating room or labor and delivery.

i think after years of working n caring patients doctors n nurses get used with their duties of healthcare which to us looks they are working v hard no doubt but they all are passed through so much practice then they reach to a level of RN, DO, MDs. Applause of claps for all of them.........

It has been my experience that very often, people who tell others to cut out the dramatics are themselves causing the greatest dramatics. All professions have their share of people who are not a credit to that profession. But there are people who go above and beyond their duties in their profession from nurse to electrician to whatever else. It is politically incorrect to say so but most people are stereotypes in good or bad ways. There is a reason why certain types gravitate to certain jobs.

Unicorn Horse Community college classes that require Organic Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology along with pre reqs and clinicals. I hope you are never admitted to a hospital.. tell your nurses that keep you safe and comfortable that they graduated from a shitty community college.
