I feel it appropriate to say he *was* fighting, because that man lost all hope when the Dragon came roaring back.
I always found this cutscene specifically 0:45 being Kiryu “breaking free” of the Daidoji’s rules of combat, his fist placement style changing from his right fist raided and left hand lower which is the reverse for his Agent style. The change of open palms for quick grabs and take downs being replaced with fists really makes Kiryu be like. “I want you gone” am i overlooking this? Yeah probably.
According to RGG's choice of programming, Dragon Style or Yakuza style is actually Komaki style... Since Komaki always uses it in all of his appearances and literally taught Kiryu most of his fighting skills It could be an oversight or added later on but Kiryu's fighting style is definitely Komaki's. Despite Komaki setting up a Dojo, no one else other than Kiryu could master the same fighting style. Like i dont care if PS2 Komaki had some weird monkey looking kungfu moves but RGG's choice of affirming how important it is in later titles that Kiryu's legitimate master being Sotaro Komaki like Roshi to Goku was in their decision of giving Komaki the exact same moveset as Kiryu

Crane is an airborn style and the agent dodge looks like snake as well and tbh snake had better dodges than crane.
Aizawa's ambition and unstoppable endurance, Ryuji's determination and stubbornness, and Majima's traumatic past and affinity for battle all wrapped up in a very nice patterned jacket. Shishido is the most Yakuza Antagonist to ever be a Yakuza Antagonist, I'd say. Probably RGG's best man since like, Kuze.

Sadly i think me and many people think Kiryu peaked anywhere between 0-3 but i will admit he has been canonically aging drastically so that would explain why he doesn't switch to 4 styles anymore and why he just feels overall slower compared to his prior counterparts/appearances in the series @@nobu6833
I love seeing gameplay footage that _isn't_ flawless. Too many years of "max difficulty no-damage" runs in games like this has kind of made those videos boring. These on the other hand, they tell a bit of a story, and they're more relatable to the people who aren't absolute gods in their game/genre of choice.

Players who are absolute demons at the game make "Attack>Launcher>Jump>Swordmaster>AirealRave>EnemyStep>Gunslinger>ShotgunStinger>BulletRain>HelmSplitter>CrazyCombo>Swordmaster>Stinger" look like a basic bread-and-butter combo. And the worst part is, that it _is a basic bread-and-butter combo for him._
For someone talking so big, this guy really didn't have the skills to back it up. Sloppy, off balance, and overcommitted on everything. Even for old Kiryu, this guy is barely a warm-up.
He is probably one of the most powerful in terms of pure raw strength. Like Ryuji, Shishido likes to brute force everything (just like an ol' time yakuza).
What's wrong with agent style though? It's seems more effective to take down enemies with less effort and has actual legit techniques compared to the Yakuza Style( i don't say Yakuza style has no techniques at all)
gameplay wise, the agent style’s strengths lie in its gadgets, and therefore the rush combo and finishers aren’t much to write home about. the yakuza style is great for some no-nonsense head busting and generally does more damage than agent overall, not that agent doesn’t have its uses. i found myself using yakuza style far more since it was familiar to me. lore-wise, you could tell kiryu was getting really bored and complacent being a daidoji agent. it’s also implied the daidoji’s strict rules meant kiryu had to learn their style. this is kiryu going back to basics and doing things his own way, in a sense.
Agent style about pacifiyng, yakuza style about dealing damage. That's the difference. Agent may look cool and effective, but basic dod combos (they're technical, btw, saying that it's just streetfighting's kinda dumb) are better for straight beating up people, whereas agent is used for "teaching punks a lesson"

They really ramped up the raw damage on the dragon style this time.. At maximum power, common fodder doe in 2 punches Tiger drop deletes 1.5-2 health bars easy (if you do it at extreme heat, then lord have mercy, the tiger drop sends you to jesus)
Kiryu may be old and may have terminal stage cancer, however, even in his state, he ain't gonna sugarcoat it, just like the way he didn't sugarcoated in his prime days. And that's a good thing. I see extreme low amounts of sugarcoating, almost non-existent, i like it.

What a nice tribute to Majima since Kiwami made him the reason why Kiryu's Dragon style is as strong as it is.
