- Had the idea for this video for a while but it's finally done!
Everything in the video is just my speculations about what martial arts some characters use. You may disagree with me, feel free to write it in the comments.

Something I enjoy about Kuze’s moveset is it’s specifically made up of a lot of what would be considered illegal moves in boxing. He headbutts you, he stomps on your toes and then smashes you with his elbow, hits below the belt and kidney punches. It’s a cool inspiration for his fighting style
Yeah, I noticed that too. He's like Balrog of Yakuza
i like how kuze just uses kicks anyway, idk, it's so awesome
@ebbisnar8616 i thought he usually didn't do that?
Exactly why Boxers and other combat sports are dangerous outside the sport. They KNOW what is illegal and WHY its illegal and have no qualms on using it on the streets
@ebbisnar8616i know he does it but i thought that was only when he was deperate
I think kiryu’s fighting style is more like the ancient art of Ass Whooping
True
Dragon is mostly boxing, karate, judo and wrestling.
Rush is kickboxing, Dutch-style.
Beast is wrestling, especially its striking aspects.
Yakuza is boxing, karate and wrestling.
Agent I think is mostly krav maga and taido.
Brawler is just that, brawling.
@@revbladez5773 so dragon is the perfect well rounded street fighting style
@@revbladez5773Brawling definitely do be just brawling lol. So many of his wide and unrefined swings and kicks, even in the styles heat actions. Totally would be the fighting style of a 20 year old gangster who hits like a truck
If you think about it, kiryu's dragon style is pretty much street karate. Due to the fact most of the moves are karete related (almost every move..)
Yeah, I could have recorded some of his moves from 6
Or just his base DoD style
DoD is really interesting. There seems to be a bit of everything. There's a bit of boxing, definitely a lot of judo in his grabs, some wrestling, bit of taekwondo with his kicks (the man is quick and flexible). If anything I'd say it's incredibly old school raw Karate in its purest form. The same Karate used by the past warriors of Japan. After all, the Dragon style is pretty much Kiryu's special take on the Komaki Karate Style.
@@twoocean8012 i agree!
His fighting style is so varied and mixed. But his stance and form on his kicks and open palm strikes are very rooted in Karate.
The way Saejima just does not care at 0:37 cracks me up. Herculean Spirit FTW lol
no pain animations is hilarious xD
immovable object ahh stance
Finally, someone actually mentioning the martial arts used by characters in this series, would love to see you do more of this as there's a lot of other movesets
based on other martial arts like wing chun (Sera being the most prominent user)
Lee I think uses wing chun
I thought Sera used Silat but I really have no clue
@@WeirDuckLee does use wing Chun one of his moves are the chainpunch which is a wing Chun move
There’s obviously Akiyama with taekwondo, and I think Baba has a lot of jeet kune do in his moveset
@@WeirDuck also some Tai Chi moves
Higashi has this original Muay Thai moveset yet they decided to give him a generic knife moveset in Gaiden. Hopefully modders will fix it.
i hope so
that is his charm
It's a lot of hopium by my part but I want to believe that the reason they don't give Higashi his actual moveset is because they are planning to make Higashi playable in a next Judgment game and they don't want to "spoil" what his moveset will play like
@@whenthe59 I really want a Kaito Files style Higashi DLC. Would be pretty damn cool. But his profession kinda doesn't allow for much action?
Maybe arcade kids get involved. One gets abducted because it's the child of a powerful family and he takes it upon himself to safe it or something.
@Casshio could also be set between judgement and lost judgement/certain events in y7
@@whenthe59real ((totally not cope))
Considering Higashi's kicks, I think he has some Taekwondo in there as well.
Don't forget: Majima learned Filipino martial arts in _Yakuza 0,_ specifically _kali._ Fei Hu (the trainer) actually explained it, too!
I didn't play Yakuza 0 yet cause currently broke and I actually surprised cause I thought he used Wushu for Slugger training but to be fair, Kali seems more believable in melee weaponary art training
kiryu learns to use kali sticks in yk3
Did you say Filipino :)
Philippines mentioned
Bro, I literally just learned all the movesets from that Trainer Yesterday in Yakuza 0
You forgot Judo. Because there are characters who use Judo and Kiryu’s Dragon style throws and heat actions are mainly Judo based. Even his Brawler style has a few Judo moves.
There are plenty of irl martial arts used in Yakuza, this was just a short showcase
@BigBoss_893 Funny seeing Big Boss reply to a Judo comment, since CQC is basically a form of Judo created by Snake and The Boss
Basically Shinichi Shinohara lol.
@@unknownshadow966 Yeah, but he is a real life Judoka. But I guess he counts.
@@user-ek2xg3ps5sCQC is MMA, it takes inspriation from many sources. I think it's basically Judo with a bit of Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai and Krav Maga thrown in.
One thing I love about Yakuza, that its rarely is shown in movies,it that it respects all martial arts, and give them proper time to shine. Its not a '(x) martial is the best one,and the others are mid/need to cheat to level the play field'
Instead its "kiryu is the best one and the others need to cheat to level the playing field"
@@guesty924Saejima?
saejima's a special case@@morkgin2459
It makes sense that you wpuld not put it in the boxing section as it is technically a different form but Kiryu does use kickboxing or at least a sort of street fighting modified version of it as his rush style in 0 and Kiwami. But besides that good video all around.
En verdad igual parece karate kyokushin combinado con lo que pero supongo que también es el culmine de combinar el estilo bestia Rush y browler
Kiryu kickboxes?
@@KanetheGoofster Not often but yeah
I always saw the dragon style as a mix of kickboxing and karate
@@KanetheGoofsterit can be argued rush is kicking boxing, although overall kiryu does use a bunch of techniques mixed in, for example I believe the very first 2 light attacks kiryu does in DoD (ps2 yakuza 1-yakuza 7 technically)
I enjoy Kuroiwa's moveset a lot. His moves are literally designed to break someone's bones, and the way he moves skillfully and stylishly will never not be cool.
thing to note about Kuze and Joon gi (Y6)
in the first fight of Joon gi he is mostly sticking by the rules of boxing, only punches and so on, after he goes into heat he unlocks a few special grapples that do break the rules, even more we can see that in his last fight, with his qte there doing a stomp
Kuze is a boxer, but a retired one, more used to street brawls than ring fights, so he naturally will sometimes do a ok-ish kick, stomps, and other stuff
it just kinda show how joon gi has a image to uphold, fighting kiryu is showing him that he's losing that image
meanwhile Kuze is a natural brawler, using his technique to ramp up his brutality
It's interesting that Nishiki, Kashiwagi and Joji Kazama are using familiar movesets. They all somehow connected to Shintaro Kazama. And Kazama did beat Nishiki and Kiryu in the past. He might have his own style of fighting.
Well, he was the best assassin in tojo clan, he must have had a damn well refined fighting style
well i mean you can see it by that stomp with the arm forward, they all do it
You ought to make a series out of this, man!
Fact: That move at 0:45 is actually real, but I've been told to put one leg on the opponent's thigh instead. Not very practical, but if you can get it done, preferably when the opponent is almost done for, it's a pretty cool finishing move.
And then Kiryu is like, “Choosing is for virgins… Oh wait…”
Lol 💀
Awesome vid! Love speculations like these. The fighting styles give so much personality to the characters. Would love to see a continuation of this
I think it's funny if you cover tatsuya ukyo from the kurohyou series, who learnt 20 different martial arts at the age of 17
you can learn it sure but just like irl his ability to apply it is yet to be seen
@@thepunishersequence291 I think the red hair wrestler mentioned Tatsuya is focused on boxing mostly but can do other stuff
@@satoyo6980 where and when?
Yeah I was wondering what Tatsuya could do
@@andrewstickadius4333in the second game he is literally a boxing champion
In gaming, no matter how many fancy moves we get to play with, nothing feels as satisfying as landing a wrestling move.
2:24 love that sync lol
super interesting how they put together these move sets that suit the characters so well! great video.
Honestly I don't think Saejima uses a specific martial art, he just fights with his superhuman streght, throws big punches, kicks, knees, people.
He's just an absolute fucking unit.
Saejima fought on the streets to earn money before being recruited by the Tojo.
So he doesn’t have a martial art background.
Good stuff, would love to see part 2.
Lyricism without Tears is such a cool track, and even the name of it just sounds so cool. Dammit Yakuza games are peak af!!!
This is such a wonderfully made video!
This is VERY well-made and does a really good job of showing off some of the unique real-world fighting styles that RGG likes to incorporate into their games. If you are at all inclined to do a part 2, it might be cool to look at the more taekwondo-esque moves we see from Akiyama and Richardson, the bukijutsu shown off by Shinada, Sawashiro and Majima, and the aikido or judo-like styles of Tanimura and Yagami's Snake Style.
Good stuff, man!
I know Yakuza reuses VF5 animations a lot but I just found Joji's Karate uses some Jean Kujo's animations
Love this series so much
This is great! I'd love if ya did more of this.
Most of the wrestling here is more of pro wrestling than wrestling, as in actual wrestling, like, combat sports wrestling, which is weird considering Japan's Olympic wrestling team is one of the best teams in the world.
Then again, pro wrestling is so popular that for people around the world, the word 'wrestling' itself refers to pro wrestling. And it's no different in Japan. MMA fighters, MMA enthusiasts, people from countries where pro wrestling is unpopular, and, of course, combat athletes are the only people who would refer wrestling as in combat sports wrestling.
It's a wishful thinking, but I would love to see RGG/Yakuza protagonists (specifically Kiryu, Saejima, and Majima) demonstrating actual wrestling, like doing Double Leg Takedown, or Inside Leg Trip followed by a mounted beatdown.
Here’s hoping you make a part two to this that includes some other martial arts present in the series!!!
im loving this video so much
fighting styles of Yakuza enemies are often overlooked, which is shame because there is so many characteristics within them
That's why RGG reuses them so often
been waiting for this kinda video
That's what I like about Yakuza, they portray the moves very realistically.
Thank you for doing this video
Neat vid. You also could add aikido by Tanimura and Yagami.
Being a massive fan of martial arts and martial arts movies is what drew me to yakuza in the first place so this compilation is greatly appreciated 💪
Damn I really want to play as Higashi
Such a shame he uses knife moveset in Gaiden
@@WeirDuck uff that sucks
@@WeirDuckit's not even his own moveset.
If you remember Koshimizu from Yakuza 6, yeah that's where he got it from.
@@heavyhalblade3108 yeah I know. Ryuse Ga Gotoku
@@WeirDuck i think I'm fine with reused moveset most of the time but Higashi is a rare case of unacceptable reuse.
Nice video man. i Would love to see a Second part showing more examples or other Martial Arts used in the series. Like Someya using MMA
Maybe, what other characters use mma? Mine and Andre?
If you look a some way Shibusawa has some of MMA inspiration is some of his attacks. but monstly Mine and Someya are the most represtatives of that style. But i think Mine is more of a Boxer than a MMA User. Because you see him training Boxing and his Orange Aura is very Boxing Inspirated
@@WeirDuck Andre uses Taekwondo, his style was mostly taken from the knife-boots man-in-black from Yakuza 2.
@@revbladez5773the.. Original MIB never had that Moveset. That was an original Moveset for Richardson, that then got copied for YK2 MIB. Including some moves from Arase.
@@revbladez5773he uses kickboxing
God I love saejimas theme you used for the "wrestling" section. One of my favourite themes for a main character
look at all those unique moves, i hope they continue to make more unique movesets for named characters and not reuse a lot of them.
p interesting and cool to see a lotta different fighting styles represented in Yakuza/LJ tbh, though it would also be awesome to include both Kurohyou 1 & 2 for your next video despite being a spin-off as a recommendation, this video rocks btw!
Love the wrestling style
Would love to see you cover some of the more uncoventional martial arts with guys like majima, yagami and kuroiwa's styles
Yagami's fighting style draws quite heavily from kung fu, with his own personal touches.
Majima in breaker style draws a lot from capoeira, and while his thug style is primarily just dirty fighting there is some krav maga influence
It’s a crime that you didn’t but tendo there with boxing team he is the the super heavyweight champion
Amazing
Sick montage
1:31 the most wrestling move i ever saw
Gonna say this once, Fighting game with Yakuza and Judgement characters
Wrestling style only works when you have bear wrestling or tiger killing power. I'm sure that swinging a guy around like a ragdoll is a legit technique
Good video it will be sick if u breakdown kiryu move
You going to make a Part 2 video.
If i remember there are characters uses Kung Fu & other forms of Chinese martial arts. Lau Ka Long, Yagami, & Zhao i 1st think of but there also seems to be lots of NPCs who uses it too.
1st one seems to be a mix of Thai & Japanese kickboxing. K-1 Japanese fighter came from a Kyokushin background. Like Andy Hug
柏木さんのQTEはいつ見ても惚れ惚れする
Soon as I see a goon or a boss throw the Muay Thai stance up, I knew it was gonna hurt
What I'm here for 🔥
Hope you make part 2 in the future.
Probably after Infinite Wealth release
Thank to you in interested to install and play yakuza for first time
Good vid make more plz 🙏🏻
When I see Fighting Styles laid out like this, I just see Tekken tbh. Both game's display of martial arts is amazing.
With the wrestling style it looks like youre beating yourself up more than any opponent, especially with that last move
You can put Ukyo Tatsuya from Kurohyou in there, but I think that would be cheating since he has all the styles in the vid.
I agree. Kurohyou bosses have awesome and variety of styles, its like a goldmine of it. I really liked Shinjou's Karate and Tanaka's Military MA personally
@@Athellor Even the random gang members and street punks you fight have fighting styles that Ukyo uses! Of course, they start out with Street Fighting, but gradually every random thug encountered is trained in some sort of martial art.
@@knocked_for_six And they use those styles better than me! To be honest I really liked they also use them and do everything Ukyo also can do. Sometimes, and as is it feels like a mirror match
The kurohyou series has a bigger focus on martial arts if yall are interested
And then there's majima...
Wouldve wanted to see Kiryus street karate and Nishikis street karate as well
Ohh I wanted to make video of martial arts in RGG games myself but very happy that someone else decided to do it. Hope you'll make a series of these.
We will see Yakuza characters in the next Virtua Fighter and it will be glorious.
If they will make new Virtua Fighter after 20 years
This calls for part 2, there are many more martial arts in rgg, Ogita uses caporeira, Akiyama, Arai and many others use taekwondo, Yagami uses kung-fu, and rush style Kiryu uses kick boxing
I hope that one day, maybe in Judgment or Yakuza 9 we'll get a Wing Chun or even Silat lol.
0:47 music sync
the ancient art of assassination
Would like to see you breakdown what form Agent is trying mimic
Probably taido and Kung fu but I'm not expert in this question
@@WeirDuckit's mostly taido.
I thought it would of been Krav Maga lol
The fact that Higashi is able to fucking JUGGLE you is so god damn cool
The fighting styles remind me of Virtua Fighter, which ironically is another Sega Ip.
Yagami knows alot of styles, especially some of them has Pencak Silat influences...
well edit.
0:48 Guyver Kick ! 😮👍
Kiryu.. he's a Jack of all Trades
meanwhile Majima:BREAKDANCE
Higashi can juggle
I love that
Tatsuya Ukyo:
Cant imagine doing these in a suit
john kurohyou:
I would love to learn kiryu's DoD style irl
Same
and Tatsuya ukyo can use all of those
Wow
Needs to put Tae Kwon Do (variations) on Akiyama, Hiroaki Arai and Shigeki Baba, Drunken Kung Fu (Zui Quan) on Minami and Kugihara, Capoeira used by Kan Ogita and Sugiura.
Baba is more kickboxing
Its that Zlatan Brother
also yagami uses tiger, crane and snake kung fu but everyone already knows that
You should've featured Judo and White Lotus Kung Fu
1:38 3:43 3:48 4:04
Tatsuya enters the chat
I thought this was a @SnowiestAngeman video for a sec there, really good!
Thanks!
@SnowieAngerman if he wasn't annoying*
It's a crime to make K-Pop Man the thumbnail instead of Mr. Mine
Y0 Kiryu has a bit of everything. brawler and beast use wrestling and rush uses boxing. dragon has everything.
Tiger of dojima
i know it might sound like a nitpick but you got kuze's name wrong at 2:15, great video tho
Kung Fu appears aswell with Chinese Antagonists like Lao Gui & Lau Ka Long
