    I'm a reel nerd and had just a couple points :)
    1. Use a cotton swab to clean the level wind components
    2. Remove bearings, soak in acetone, remove one of the shields, add one drop of oil and spin for a few seconds with an air compressor
    3. After regrease and oil, take a drill with 10mm socket and spin handle for 30 seconds
    Love the videos. Thanks

      However, acetone can completely dry out the surface of the bearings and hence oil really needs to be worked back into bearings.

    That's a great step-by-step instruction on reel maintenance. I probably let my reels go longer than they should, but I always try to keep some good quality oil on had to at least keep the handle moving.

      I know I have a pile of reels I need to work on this winter. I need to do this way more often than I do as well.

    Good job explaining the way of the oil and grease. But you can only do it 3 times before it gets too thick oil will thicken over time if you put it over and over. Just remember 3 times before fill clean out of old oils - grease out and then reoil.

    Steve, thanks this was a great video. I do have one question. I have a Lew's Speed Spool American Hero baitcaster. At the very end of your video when you remove the small plate to access the gears, that is something I don't have on my reel. Do you know how to access the gears on this model baitcaster? I searched RUclips and didn't find what I was looking for. I really wanted to do this last step, but I'm stumped.

      Debo has a great 3 part series on completely disassembling, cleaning, and lubing what I believe is a Lew's Speed Spool. ruclips.net/video/dca2vYEFYSc/видео.html

    Question - I have a Lew's SP & the Crank handle gets hard to turn when I tighten down the drag.
    What's causing this? Bought it last fishing season, not even a year old. It's caught a lot of nice Redfish & nothing is bent, everything else runs fine. The more I turn that drag to tighten it, the tougher it is to reel in.

      That definitely sounds like something isn’t right. Mine hasn’t done that and I can’t think what be causing that. Their customer service is very good and I’m sure they would be able to help you out with it.

    Off topic but how do you like that reel? Was thinking of picking one up but haven’t seen too many stuff about it

      @SteveRogersOutdoors  Год назад +1

      It took me a bit to get it dialed in, but I have used it a lot and been very pleased. The spool tension knob is definitely the key to getting it just right for your fishing style.

    Is it okay to use a different branded grease on my lews baitcaster?

      Any grease designed for reel gears should work. Thanks for watching!

    hello sir, I have a rust problem on my baitcaster with carbon body, since the reel was exposed to water and I didn't have time to clean it, rust appeared on almost all the bearings and bearing seats, I have ordered new bearings, but after I tried cleaning many times with WD-40 on the reel body and bearing seat, even though it looked clean of rust, after I re-lubricated it and use it, the next day rust appeared again on the bearing seat and it was very difficult to remove, do you know the solution to this problem? Thank you very much 🙌🙌, sorry for my bad english

      @SteveRogersOutdoors  Год назад

      Wow. That is an issue I haven’t experienced. I would probably try to call the customer service line for the brand of reel you have. Often times they will have you send it to the repair department and get the problem taken care of.

    Im new to fishing and ordered shimanos "sticky" grease for my shimano reels would that be okay to apply to the worm gear? Ive been using a low viscosity oil instead

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, the grease will be good for the worm gear. Just don't put too much on it. A small little dab will be plenty. Thanks for watching!

    Late comment. But what grease and oil did you use?

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  10 месяцев назад

      I used the Lucas Oil products made for Lews. The Super Duty Grease and Super Duty oil.
