Why the heck is it so complex on the Mac OS to do something so simple and so commonly requested. Recording audio and / or video should be simple and not involve an add on app and creating virtual outputs and inputs while disabling standard inputs and outputs.

I could not get this to work on the M1 mac Mini running Monterey. I had to switch back to my windows machine because everything works with no issues. Maybe I will switch back when apple and the software people get things worked out. but for now, I have to get work done and this mac is acting like the windows machines from the early 200 where nothing works without some sort of extreme tweaking.
I have no idea why audio into OBS, especially in 2022, is so convoluted, awkward, and klunky.. Let me highlight the issues I have helped people with, and faced myself, still to this day.... Getting audio from a DAW > OBS. Windows 7 - ReaStream worked great with Reaper to OBS. Windows 7 - Using Cubase and ReaStream as a plugin would crash Cubase. Solved this issue, by using the UR824 interface's Loopback. However this created more problems. Loopback on the UR824 is set to default on inputs 1+2. Guess where the Hi-Z inputs are? 1+2 :) So I have to plug my mic into channel 3, and, using a separate D.I. Box for my guitar, to make it a balanced signal, in channel 4. Windows 10 - ReaStream would refuse to send any audio out to OBS. like, refused. no matter what. I solved this by getting the ASIO plugin for OBS and using ReaRoute in Reaper. However, you now have to put an ASIO capture source on EVERY single scene. what about nested scenes in OBS? what do you then? if you nest a scene in another scene, and that nested scene has ReaRoute ASIO capture on it, you'll get double output. :) Recently, a friend of mine, has been having some issues with getting the desktop audio out from his mac M1 mini to OBS. He was routing Ableton > Blackhole > OBS, but despite having a Focusrite 3rd gen 18i20 with Loopback facility, it still would not send any of the Loopback signal to OBS. I've heard so many people complain that this is a problem, that companies must know by now that we're all sick and tired of this issue. I came here looking for a solution, but as soon as he mentioned Blackhole, that was where we started with initally. Surely on a mac with an 18i20 Scarlett interface, you should just be able to turn on Loopback (On channels 9+10) and all of the audio will come out in OBS. not so. Reastream, ReaRoute, Loopback, all have their issues. plus wether any of them work or not, is extremely hit and miss. as for audio routing on a mac, I feel sorry for mac users! It's all political, and companies want to keep us guessing. Shame it needs to be this complicated.

Hi. So I am using an m1 MacBook Air to stream from. I want to try to stream sims 4 but I am trying to separate the gameplay audio and music on obs like I do when I stream from my elgato capture card. Will loop back work for that. I already have black hole setup and it works great but I want to have my vods on twitch not save with the Spotify music I stream with.
this doesn't work with bluetooth headphones. when i switch to blackhole for my output, the audio stops going to my bluetooth headphones and only plays out of the speakers on my mac instead. any way i can fix this before i have to spend $10 a new headphone wire?

Why is OBS not picking up desktop audio Mac? Depending on what version of macOS you're running you may need to go into System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy and make sure OBS is selected for microphone access (as well as camera and screen recording).
How did you start recording and editing GTA 5 videos? Did you use the capture card and use their software to edit? I have been using the capture card then using FCPX to edit. It sounds like for this you need to go to your advanced audio preferences and set the elgato to “monitor and output” so you hear what your viewers are hearing
I'm having a weird issue now, my normal volume, after using blackhole, is now WAY too loud. Literally just 1 notch of volume on my MacBook is already as loud as it used to be at half volume... Nothing I've tried has fixed this
For some reason when I go to the setup and to create my multi output it only sees Mac speakers and black hole but I have my blue snow ball plugged in and it recognizes it just not for multi output any way around this?

When I record with my microphone Rode Nt with Blackhole I can record in stereo (two channels) but when I instead record with my headset Hyper X cloud II it records in mono (one channel) so the voice can only be heard in a speaker. I connected the Elgato through the USB 3.0 cable with a hub, then with a USB-C to USB-C cable from Apple which came with my iPad Pro. It's no thunderbolt cable. Results were the same, very low fps like 20-30 or even less. You think the cable is the problem? I ordered a thunderbolt 4 cable from Anker which will come in two days. I hope it will fix the issue
@@twentytrunks_bs I don’t believe it’s the cable… from testing I’ve done it’s an optimization issue with M1 chips. You’ll need to adjust your settings to improve on the FPS.

You would want to do a window capture of your gameplay in OBS, this works for any game.

hey man! your vids are amazingly helpful. however I have a different question: I own a PS5, a Elgato HD60S+, Chat Link Pro and a MacBook Air M1. I want to stream PS5 gameplay sound, PS5 party sound and MacBook desktop sound. Do you think this is possible with the equipment I have? If so, how? I would love a video from you to this

@@MidnightMan thanks for the reply man! I wonder the following: My stream is on very low fps. I connected the Elgato through the USB 3.0 cable with a hub, then with a USB-C to USB-C cable from Apple which came with my iPad Pro. It's no thunderbolt cable. Results were the same, very low fps like 20-30 or even less. You think the cable is the problem? I ordered a thunderbolt 4 cable from Anker which will come in two days. I hope it will fix the issue
@@twentytrunks_bs I don’t believe it’s the cable… from testing I’ve done it’s an optimization issue with M1 chips. You’ll need to adjust your settings to improve on the FPS.
@@MidnightMan bro I bought a 40€ Anker Thunderbolt 4 cable which I connected from my elgato directly to my MacBook, it worked then! So it actually WAS the cable
