'Most of us are tired of it': Douglas Murray slams 'sick' calls for slavery reparations

  • Author Douglas Murray has slammed people who engage in a kind of "grievance competition" and cry about the "hurt" they've suffered as a result of slavery centuries ago.
"All history has consequences and ramifications ... if we were to play this fairly we would at least look at all of the countries around the world that engaged in a slave trade who are simply not interested in any form of reparations," Mr Murray told Sky News Australia's Piers Morgan.
Mr Murray claimed slavery persists in Africa today and that there are more slaves globally than during the height of the transatlantic slave trade.
"So some of us are simply a bit bored of hearing people ripping at closed wounds and then crying about their hurt, or presumed hurt," he said.
"Nobody is alive who has actually suffered the hurt and nobody is alive who did the wrong."
He added it's always the "more virtuous" countries, such as the United Kingdom and United States, that are presented as "the worst countries" over this issue.
"It's sick and most of us are tired of it."

and at the time that slavery was practiced by Europeans, it was practiced by everyone else and was permitted by everyone. Actually it was in Europe and the Europeans that stopped slavery in the first place. In Mauritania, e.g., it was still possible to legally own a slave until 1979.

As a Nigerian man living in Nigeria but keenly attentive to events around the globe, I am deeply appalled at some of the madness I hear my fellow Africans regurgitate on international media on matters like slavery and reparation, colonialism and migration. From my perspective, I don't even think any African with a shred of pride in him or herself should be running off to Europe to escape the disgustingly hard living conditions in Africa. Yes, there is wholesale misgovernance, there is corruption and decay everywhere one looks, but remember, we hurled the same Europeans out of our shores claiming we were adults enough to manage our own affairs and govern ourselves. It didnt take long for everyone to see all of that was BS. But now guess where "our tired, our poor, and our huddled masses" troop to: it is to the same Europe that we thumbed our noses at not more than a half a century ago. I have told as many as would care to hear me that we Africans are mighty lucky I'm not European else I would've driven every last man-jack migrant back with the helpful advice to go back to their god-given land and to run their affairs there. The fact that the white man in trying to make amends (though I wonder what for) has flung open his doors, is no justification to subject him to such discomfort in his own god-given land. We all know what would've happened to any migrant doing the same any other place in the world. Our arrogance and temerity when we should be meek and compliant in another man's land is what kills me. And I must repeat that every black African migrant in Europe is mighty lucky I'm not European else they would've learnt a lesson in manners by now.

It’s because people like her don’t like hearing that facts are not feeling and hurt feelings do not change facts. The fact remains whether she likes it or not slavery is not a white phenomenon nobody ancestors regardless of skin color stand guiltless or victimless. The word slave actually comes from the slavs, who inhabited a large part of Eastern Europe who were all white were taken as slaves by the Muslims of Spain during the ninth century AD right now in Africa there still slave owners who are infiltrating the pain of slavery on people and the slave owners.

But of course, there's no comparison to people who have ancestors who were slaves two centuries ago. Much, much worse. Yes, sarcasm.

Better and more efficient to change cultures that don't expect effort from the next generation or make decisions that trend toward success, than to celebrate lawlessness and stupidity and continuously reduce the effectiveness of police powers to combat crime through selective reporting and bias from complicit multi national corporate media that want to protect the funnelling of cheap labour into the west to continuously depress wages. As a life long high tax-payer in my country, I really think that this concept of society being open to those who quite obviously don't want to be a functioning contributor is outdated. Fling the openly hateful, openly free-loading dead-wood into the wilderness where they can steal and kill each other without bothering me while I'm busy trying to provide for my wife and kids and instil in my children a work ethic and the ability to make good decisions out of the options available.

By their standards, all countries should cancel all national celebrations since all were formed by war, genocide, and colonization. Things could be worse. I’m also Canadian, and my family is from Portugal. If one views Portuguese history, before Portugal became a country, there were indigenous people living there (the Celtic people and the Iberian people) who were essentially obliterated by Roman and Moorish invasions. The Iberian language and culture is gone. Much like the decimation of ancient Egyptian people and their culture and language (which would have been completely lost if not for the discovery of the Rosetta Stone). Those cultures weren’t given reservations or a chance to keep their traditions anything. I’m not minimizing the loss for the indigenous people of Canada, especially with the residential schools scandal, but the history of humanity is filled with these stories, except that in most nations, the indigenous were just wiped out and/or assimilated.
