This is something that I've wanted to do for a long time. Nier Automata was by far my favorite game of 2017 and my medley for the game was made immediately after I'd finished it so I tried to hold on to all of those emotions I had and spill them out. However the amazing credits theme didn't really fit in. Plus I wanted to wait until I had the perfect singer to do it the way I heard it in my head. Little did I know that singer was right in front of me.
Caleb absolutely killed it, I love how much raw emotion he can pump into his music and I think it was perfect for this. Knowing he was going to be his beautiful tear jerking self, I tried to reign back the arrangement a bit, only playing leads for the solo to give him all the room in the mix he needed. I still may have gone overboard with the backing orchestra though, but it was so much fun! Hope you guys dig it!

I'll address the lyric change. I appreciate everyone's opinion in that he should have kept it "One girl" since the song is implied to be from the perspective of 2B, but because Caleb wanted to put his own self and heart into the song. The lyrics meant a lot to him so he changed it to be from his perspective. That was his decision and I agreed it'd be best. It did not come from a place of insecurity and was by no means a thoughtless decision. We worked extremely hard on this video and are both very proud of it. If one lyrical change ruins an entire project for you, I implore you to have a more open mind to projects like this in the future. I hope this puts our decision into better perspective.
I think if there's any song that each person should make their own, draw their own meaning from, it's this one. 100% fine with the change!

Perfectly OK with his decision tbh and I definitely see where he's coming from. This is a song that carries a lot of meaning, and it doesn't only have to apply to the context of the game. Either way, this is an amazing rendition!

(Also, to anyone complaining about the change of pronoun - I truly see nothing wrong or insecure about Caleb singing "man" to better reflect his personal connection to the song. It doesn't change the message of the track, and I think vocalists should feel free to sing whatever pronouns they most identify with if they wish. I think these two gentlemen have shown great love and respect for the source material, so if this small word change is what you choose to focus on instead of the artistry, I feel bad that you're missing out on enjoying it!)

@@adrisaurus yea , agreed, if it changed the tone or message I could see where people would have an issue, but gender had no impact on the meaning behind it, it just so happened to be a female singer before, and if Caleb wants to make this feel more personal and show homage g for it

Wowee, opinions are a crazy thing. Commenters saying “thought we were past gender insecurities”, then maybe that should also mean people should feel confident changing the gender to identify with a song a lot more. Especially if you’re the one singing it and u identify as such. Great job on the song!

I personally think the "I'm only one man" change fits because it's a dude singing. On top of that it doesn't detract from the song itself and although it might slightly alter the rhyming it still works for me. Great song

Caleb will always be the manliest girl for me. He nailed it.
In a world where it feels like there is nothing you can do to stop the spiral of despair around you. Having the determination to push on is a very powerful thing.
And to those annoyed at the pronoun change. Caleb wanted to show a part of himself to you, something that I personally know is EXTREMELY hard to do. Most of Caleb's covers are hit or miss to me, but I think thats why this one connects with me so well.

It’s weird because I’ve never played Nier Automata but I know this song incredibly well, I spent 100’s of hours driving around in the Regalia on FFXV blasting this bad boy out, so all of my recognition and association with this song takes me to Final fantasy, and it’s a peculiar feeling because this is a big song from a completely different franchise that I know nothing about at all.

This is a beautiful cover both vocally and Instrumentally. Jules and Caleb did completely phenomenal and whether a lyric change messes with your opinion or not. It's still beautiful. I'm grateful that people make these covers still man. It gives me hope in a musical stand point.

I'll never understand why this isn't more popular, it has such great energy and Caleb voice is really amazing and fitting, I dunno how many times I sang this while going through tough times, it lifts my spirits.
I finally got around to play this game, loving it so far and especially the music! Also, Caleb got some good control on his voice and I like the use of acoustic rythm guitar and switching to electric when it gets more intense.

If you're complaining about the pronoun change, why? It's literally just one word. It shouldn't ruin the cover for anyone. I prefer the way the original was written as well but this isn't the original. It's a cover. If Caleb wanted to change the pronoun so that the lyrics connect to him more, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

My only issue is Girl was replaced with "man". I feel "boy" would have fit a bit better. It just feels off. Still a really good cover.
If he was going to change it, "boy" would have been a hundred times better fit. Using man here at the very least, screws with the rhyming and leaves the line feeling flat and unfinished. Boy would have still had a slight internal rhyme to it.
"girl" is a word that has more actual verbal complexity, especially in how the mouth and tongue move to make that sound. It added a specific sound to the lyric that a long "man" doesn't have. It's purely aesthetic and it bothers me.

This isnt just from 2B's perspective. This song is meant to resonate within every1. The full versuon of the song literally starts with the bit style then change to different languages and ends with lalalala. every1 who said caleb shld've stuck to "one girl" totally missed the whole point of the song.
