However, within a few short years, almost every vehicle was recalled and crushed, and the electric car of the future disappeared in history’s rear-view mirror.
Witness History spoke to Wally Rippel, research engineer for AeroVironment, a Californian company that developed the EV1s predecessors for General Motors.

GM is a stupid company. Could have been a world leader in electric cars. But, they had no long term vision.
stupid is, stupid does = GM
GM in the early 2000s: Creates an EV cult-like following without wanting to, and gives their fans and customers the finger.
GM in the 2020s: How do we get a cult-like following like Tesla?!
They have some good stuff Lyriq, Hummer Ev, Silverado, Chevy blazer, Equinox, I think eventually maybe a Malibu Ev!! But prices they need to drop them
@@MadmaxMusic93 So if their stuff is so good, how come they’re not selling?
So it’s too late for that, it would not be surprising to me, if one or more of the big 3 auto manufacturers today are looking down the barrel of bankruptcy by 2030 or sooner, and so, as far creating a cult like following, like Tesla, it cannot be done, because you cannot just copy Tesla.
So if you wanna compete in the EV space with Tesla, you’re going to have to do something a lot different than what GM, and others are currently doing, and that means across-the-board, because no matter what anyone says, they really wanna buy a Tesla, but they’re sticking to their guns out of loyalty for a company that has literally gave them the middle finger.
So for years, GM, and all the other legacy auto manufacturers, said to the buying public, you will buy what we sell you and you will love it, and we did, but there was no other choice.
So you either bought what they sold you or you hitched a ride with a neighbor, a friend, public transportation or you bought a horse.
So fast forward to today, and some of us said, we want a choice, and so Elon Musk and the folks at Tesla said, okay, here’s your choice. It’s an all electric battery powered car, not a hybrid, none of that nonsense, but a straight up battery electric powered electric car, and we’re loving it. Cheers 🥂
RIP EV1
a very very stupid move by GM - anyway, this was covered in 2 documentaries: Who Killed the Electric Car? (2006) followed by Revenge of the Electric Car (2011)

If gm hadn't scrapped this they'd be the leaders and Tesla would not exist.
hmm
Some free thinker humans doesn't know where would the capital sin of greed could lead them in the end‼️ 😣😖
It's ironic now I'm working for a Gm/LG battery ev plant!! An have my own ev, but this time it's actually Mine!! Not leased
