I'm having the pleasure of discovering Morgan James for the very first time on February 8, 2024. This is about the fourth song I've listened to, and I'm ready to her more.
I can't thank Scott Bradlee enough for creating Postmodern Jukebox and introducing me to so many amazing artists! Morgan is now by far one of my favourite singers ever. Loving the new EP!!!
Arrived here from The Charismatic Voice's breakdown of the cover & interview with Ms James. I was _not_ ready for the vocals on this cover. Oh my. Feeling, soul, heart, and jump an octave here and there without showing off. When she sings, this woman gets out of her own way.
'Cause she can't fuckin' sing that's why. Sorry - cute ain't enough when you're trying to sing soul you gotta actually have the chops, and she definitely DON'T
@@johnsincak3877 what are you talking about?? How can you possible say she can't sing?? You may not like the tone of her voice and that's fair enough there's a few singers I don't like their voice but I still know and respect that they can sing I just don't like their voice, and that's obviously how you feel about Morgan But there's no way you or anyone else can say Morgan can't sing
As English is my second language, I greatly appreciate PMJ's and Ms James' service in making intelligible the words of some of my favourite childhood songs.
I would venture to guess there are millions of people with English as their first language that wouldn't have 'intelligible' as a word in their vocabulary.
I completely agree. English is my first language, and I still don't understand many of the words in the songs I listen to. It is amazing how she enunciates each word so clearly. When you combine that with an amazing voice, you have an artist that I thoroughly enjoy listening to. Of course the icing on the cake is that watching her in videos isn't so bad either! ;)
Performances like this are why I love the internet. Thank you, Ms. James! (For the record, I love the chorus ladies. They're totally soulful and expressive!)
She has a much better voice than just about all mainstream artists. Been listening to this song for about 7 years now. I'm still amazed at her vocal range. And she's beautiful. Win win
I think that is what has started most of the forest fires this past decade. Billy Joel sang "We Didn't Start the Fire." Darn tootin' he didn't - Morgan James did!!!
@@sprity8048 Me too. I LOVE her RUclips performance of "Maps"! Yesterday I was listening to a jazz station and heard a woman singer whose way of singing the word, "you" reminded me of MJ. So I took note of the song title which I had never heard before and looked it up. And whattya know? It was she!. All I Ever Gave You ruclips.net/video/hvbkIwBxdMg/видео.html
I do not know if hers is the cover I've been searching for. I had begun to believe that I had imagined hearing a beautiful female voice doing Dream On. I only heard it once and then only part of it. I am about to find out if my search is over. Thanks for your comment it may be what leads to the fruition of the search.
Have to come back to this every now and again ... how the hell does that voice come from such a tiny woman ? Put together with those totally sublime BVs ... perfection !!!
In my teen years one of the things we did was trying to figure out ourselves the lyrics of new songs. It was quite the effort. Morgan James should have been our English teacher.
I've listened to nearly everything MJ has placed on RUclips. Love it all. However, when I need to see her just having fun with a song, I return here, time and again.
Came from over at The Charismatic Voice having just caught her reaction video to you and had to listen to it "first hand" absolutely incredible to hear!

Her subsequent albums, such as "Reckless Abandon" and "Memphis Magnetic," have continued to build on her impressive body of work, each project reflecting her growth as an artist and her unwavering commitment to authenticity in her music. "Reckless Abandon" showcases her songwriting prowess and deep emotional resonance, while "Memphis Magnetic" pays homage to the classic soul and blues that have influenced her throughout her career. Peter Gabriel was always one of, if not my favorite artist of all time just due to his unique voice and musical ideas.... Morgan is the one person I am so glad to hear rework this song! I'd love to hear her do In Your Eyes, and/or Big Time, Don't Give Up, etc.
She and her husband perform a spectacular version of "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin... ask her to sing it and I guarantee you it'll sound as good as Heart's Kennedy Center rendition.
Not just these background singers, there are many many great background singers that are just awesome and we will , sadly, never even know their names.

As much as I love the original, but it's just beyond the pale. Incredible, amazing, gorgeous.
Morgan James is an amazing vocalist. I don't know how many times I've listened to this, amazes me every time.

A real tribute to Peter’s deep love for R&B, Gospel, and Soul. You bring it all even more than the man himself. You found the essence of the song.
It’s a song about sex. How did she find its essence? 😂😂😂
I was looking for fifth harmony covers but I must say.. I am NOT disappointed. This woman is pure talent and a def eargasm.
She has a much better voice than just about all mainstream artists. Been listening to this song for about 7 years now. I'm still amazed at her vocal range. And she's beautiful. Win win
Morgan James is a goddess.
No doubt!
Yes she is!
Yes she is.
Fact!
even the moan must be harmonic ...
Morgan is BAAAAD! And then her background singers - making their "yeah", "oooo" and effortless... love this!!!
Those background singers are outstanding!
I'd listen to Ms. James sing the phone book-- but it would probably catch on fire....
That's no shit!
Ha Ha true
I think that is what has started most of the forest fires this past decade. Billy Joel sang "We Didn't Start the Fire." Darn tootin' he didn't - Morgan James did!!!

the truth!

It is rare that I like a cover more than an original, but this blows away the original. On top of the great voice, what a charming smile. Love her!
This made me appreciate the original all over again, but how does that voice come from that slip of a girl? Terrific cover.
When I close my eyes and listen to you I feel the most beautiful soul in the world , thank you
She’s got it all…extremely beautiful and a truly amazing voice! I’ll admit I’m smitten 🥰
